They are excellent shoes! You couldn't tell they were lift shoes at all. And it looked like they were really comfortable as well. I'm going to remember that brand. I agree that it is likely to be a billfold. Not something commonly used in Australia, but handy for some.

'Pair of shoes' is a collective noun, which makes it singular. Therefore, "this pair of shoes" is grammatically correct. Plural form is "these pairs of shoes"

@@Aussiegirl1972 Joey is actually correct. As an English speaker, I can tell you that when you are talking about a pair of anything, it is "a" pair. Like shoes or pants, etc. You can talk about "a" pair, singular, or "these shoes" or "these pairs of shoes" (meaning more than one pair). But "these pair" is incorrect. It is like the very confusing (for English as a second language speakers) "they", which can refer to a group of people, or just one person if you do not wish to define their gender. I had that conversation recently with a Dutch man who didn't grasp initially that it was perfectly correct. He believed that "they" had to refer to more than one in all cases. And sometimes the reason for the confusion is also that "this" and "these" can sound alike when spoken.
