    New high speed link is being built that will connect Zagreb with Rijeka, it'll be alternative route aptly named Nizinska Pruga, allowing for high speed, but I think they'll limit the line to 160kmph, as is the norm, higher speeds means higher maintenance costs, none the less, link will go via Ostarje and down to Rijeka via a bunch of tunnels, one around 21km long will be the longest in Croatia when built, new rail junction will be at place called Dreznica, €3.0 billion link should be built by 2035 with work on the line starting in 2026, there'll be also new link from Dreznica via Otocac to Perusic, Gospic and Gracac, 55km link to Perusic/Gospic via Dreznica in principle would allow for train from Rijeka to go down to Split. Dreznica - Gospic link would also have a bunch of long tunnels, 10km being longest. Alternative route to Split from Gracac is also being considered, 100km route would also be high speed but limited to 160kmph as a norm. if a new link from Split to Zagreb is built, it would cut train journey down to 3 hours, or less, if speed limit is increased to 200kmph, again new signalization will be installed on existing route from zagreb to split, ETCS level 1, works should start this year and be completed by end of 2027, also Rijeka - Zagreb and Varazdin - Zagreb. Vinkvovci - Zagreb will also be modernized and ETCS level 1 installed. Zagreb - Koprivnica same.

    Bel viaggione!

      @nobelitaly1024 This is a very nice journey. I like it very much. I am not sure about the delays, sorry.

    For Italian visitors - You might notice that in many stations catenary system might look a bit familiar (we unofficially call them "umbrella" design), as this line was originally electrified in 1960s on 3kV DC all the way from Rijeka to Zagreb. Over time line was converted to 25kV (finishing in 2012 on the last section around Rijeka and to Slovenian border), but on many places existing catenary towers and designs were kept with just installation of additional 25kV insulators (longer than 3kV).

      Thank you. Having read that the Rijeka-Zagreb was converted to 25 kV a few years ago, I was surprised to see traces of the old palification again

      They tried to re-use as much things as possible, probably they will be replaced with standard 25kV portals during the upcoming reconstruction and modernization (starting with Leskovac-Karlovac). You can also see several old power substation buildings which are now unused (as 25kV requires much less power substations than 3kV). Example of such building (try to find the others, they all look the same) is in Draganić at 1:01:40 (yellow building on the left). Also, this part (Moravice-Ogulin-Leskovac) was converted earlier in the 1980s, only last section (Moravice-Rijeka-Šapjane) was converted in 2012.

      @@ZvonimirZelenika The chain that for some years in Italy we have used for 25 kV powered lines (only the new high speed lines) is different from that used on the 3 kV powered lines. The old poles and old shelves like those seen in the video in some stations, or on the Slovenian lines, here are now only in some deposit or small scalo merci. Sorry for bad english

      Visto, visto, me ne sono accorto subito! Ho notato comunque che la palificazione tipicamente italiana è riservata alle stazioni, mentre in linea viene adottata quella più moderna. 😉

    Services on these lines seem pretty infrequent and you wonder what station staff do all day - apart from waving at passing trains!

    • @ZvonimirZelenika
      @ZvonimirZelenika Рік тому +2

      We wonder the same as well (what staff does whole day). Weekend timetables are very scarce (especially Sundays) plus this is very sparsely inhabited area so there are very few trains (typical workday schedule here is about train per hour per direction, bit more between Karlovac and Zagreb). There is quite a lot of cargo traffic on this line (as this is connection to Rijeka port) but again during the weekends there are fewer trains than on workdays.

      @fabio501mj I have to put some videos from other Countries too, not just Italy😊I hope you understand and support this idea. Reggio CL-Sapri I did film, but, unfortunately, a big mosquito hit the camera lens and the video is not good. So, next time when I will be in Italy I will film it again. Hopefully with success. Have a nice day. I hope you enjoyed the video from Croatia too.

      @Mladjasmilic da, isti vlak od Splita do Zagreba.

    • @ZvonimirZelenika
      @ZvonimirZelenika Рік тому +2

      Na noćnim vlakovima koje vozi "klasika" se lokomotive mijenjaju ili u Oštarijama ili u Ogulinu (5-6km dalje od Oštarija, no u Ogulinu se mijenja i smjer), tako da od Zagreba do Oštarija/Ogulina vlak dovuče najčešće 1141 (JŽ 441) a ondak dalje 2044 (JŽ 645), makar neke vlakove znaju ipak odvesti sa 2044 cijelim putem (prošlo ljeto su tako vozili Osijek->Bjelovar->Zagreb->Oštarije->Split). Nagibni vlakovi su pak dizelski jer voze cijelu dionicu Zagreb-Split (koja je većinom ipak neelektrificirana), makar neko vrijeme su vozili i Zagreb-Rijeka (što je cijeli put "pod žicom") no veća brzina na zavojitim prugama je značila veliku uštedu vremena.

    • @Mladjasmilic
      @Mladjasmilic Рік тому +1

      @@ZvonimirZelenika Većina modernih 'dizela' je zapravo dizel-električna. Dizel proizvodi struju, a pogon su elektro-motori na svakoj osovini. To omogućava i reostatsko kočenje, što štedi kočnice.
      Tako da je lako prepraviti dizel električnu kompoziciju u kombinovanu. Obrnuto, Stadler Flirt se može naručiti sa dodatnim segmentom koji u sebi ima 2 dizel generatora, za linije koje su delimično elektrifikovane.
      Srbija je naravno naručila dizel-HIDRAULIČNE kompozicije, koje rade na Rusku naftu.

      No signalization installed on the route, this will change soon as ETCS level 1 signalization will be installed across Croatia, which would speed up trains a fair bit, but also max speed of this train is 160kmph, it is reggioswinger built by Bombardier.

    • @ZvonimirZelenika
      @ZvonimirZelenika Рік тому +4

      There is signalling on this line (a bit localized adaptation of PZB) with block (APB) spacing, so speed limits are not due to signalling (as it is south from Oštarije to Split) but due to line condition. This section is not in that good shape, a major modernization project has begun on Leskovac-Karlovac section to double-track, 750-meter trains, upgrade to 160km/h and ETCS Level 1 signalling - You can see first works at Draganić at 1:01:40), and there is a preparatory phase for completely new Karlovac-Oštarije section (also double-track, 750m trains, 160km/h, ETCS) - so while waiting for the big modernization to begin, existing line gradually deteriorates. This train itself is capable of 160km/h (it's same type as DB612).

      @@ZvonimirZelenika I thought signalization on the route didn't work, or wasn't fully operational due to technical issues and under-funding. I stand corrected. Croatian Railways are in dire condition due to massive under-funding over the years, and corruption plays its part. Also, extensive and modern motorway network in Croatia doesn't help.
