- This is an early Bolens garden tractor, I think it's a 1957. The tag says Type 21HD01. It's been sitting for many years, I'm going to try to get it to run and drive. This is part 1 of a multi-part series.
Wow this is so cool. Every so often these things show up. It is sad when they just go to scrap.
Love your videos, a tip put a tarp under when your working, saves hours of looking for that pin or bolt you dropped. Cheers.
That was a nasty gas tank, whoo! That's a very cool find, it's going to be a good looker at the shows.
very nice
I can say with all honesty I love working with old equipment. All of my garden equipment is vintage. I use a Snapper with a TEcumseh V50 to mow and a mid 60's Troy Bilt tiller for Gardening. All were salvaged repaired by me and used. I find it is better than the import modern junk of this age :) I got the vintage restore bug after rebuilding my grandpas Brigs 5S.
The days of keeping it simple. Clean it up and get another 60 years out of it! It will outlast anything built nowadays.
Have you ever heard the song "I'm so glad he found me" in church? I think this tractor sang that song all the way to your house.

That is a cool looking old Bolens, a lot of good patina on it!
Yep I'll try to not change it much, but I might take that IH emblem off.
I just found a 1958 220-01 sitting in the woods on my property. I’ll see if I can get it running
Can you tell me how much did you pay and how you found the beast ??? I am just amazed at the number of people who do not put oil in an oil bath filter, not cleaning the dirt around the threaded oil dipstick fill fitting.before removing it. I have an Kohler engine like yours that is literally NEW !!! My neighbor was going to throw it away, I was just lucky to be at the right place and take it fella. I can tell this is a labor of love for you Sir.
I didn't have to look for this one. The widow of the previous owner had to sell it because the house was sold, they were moving and couldn't take it. A guy that the widow hired to haul something was a friend of a neighbor of one of my friends who heard about it. He called me about it, so I was forced to pick it up that day and pay about half of what it's worth. It'll probably never happen again. Lucky to be at the right place and take it.
Thanks for watching!
Honestly how does one determine the value part PRF ??@@PackratsFabrications
Do you paint any of them
I painted a few Wheel Horses when I first got into the hobby. If they have original paint, I like to leave them original. If they've already been painted, or I have to do body work, or welding, then I tend to re-paint them.
