  • Do passing 18 wheelers almost put you in the ditch? A Safe T Plus steering stabilizer can help. With over 100 lbs of centering force, the Safe T Plus helps with sway and oversteer as well as adding blow out protection to your steering system. In this video I show how to install a Safe T Plus on a Workhorse P32 Chassis. This is an easy install that anyone can do with basic hand tools.
    In a future video, I will be installing a rear track bar and new rear Koni shocks.
    These are expensive upgrades but very necessary in order to tame your hula dancing RV. By doing the job yourself, you will save thousands and look like a stud to your wife the next time she drives your RV.

    Thanks for the video. Most of the videos are for Ford chassis. Not only this is specific for the P32 but you give great detail on how to do it. I was having a hard time figuring out how to install this and all I did was follow up your video, got it installed!

    Thanks for the video! Getting ready to install mine today. Are you going to do a follow up video?

    Thank you for the video, I am almost done installing the safety t-plus on my 2002 r-vision trail lite. I noticed that the bracket with the ubolts is going to rub the transmission cooling line ( one of them) how did you move the line? Can I just bend the line, will it break if I try that?

    Do you have a part number for the five lug Hub and hub extension I want to see if it will fit on my Fleetwood Bounder

    Hi Tyler, I installed a Safe T Plus on my 1994 Flair RV on the GM P30 chassis. The installation is very similar as yours is..the main brace attaches to the sway bar mount. I videoed the stress on that mount while moving the steering gear from lock to lock (RV was stationary) after installing it. The video is attached below this text. I am concerned that the sway bar mount, and the frame, may be put under extraordinary load from the Safe T Plus, with some type of failure down the road. Or, the motion of the frame and sway bar mount is OK.. Do you have any thoughts about the safety of the entire installation and operation?

    Thank you for posting your video!! Question: where I can find what type of chassis I have? I got 2004 Winnebago on workhorse chassis but I don’t know if it’s P30 or p32 ?

    • @ufixit
      @ufixit  2 роки тому

      Workhorse made a W series and P series chassis. If the sixth character in your vin number is a 3 or a 5, then it's a P series. As for P30 vs 32, they are sometimes used interchangeably. The P30 was primarily used for large box van / utility type trucks. The P32 was used for motorhomes. So, you have a P32. Not all parts on a P32 are interchangeable. I think they built them from spare parts. Year model and VIN varification is the best way to make sure you get the right parts. Hope this helps.

      One more question: what is your thoughts on manufacture stabilizer ? Wouldn’t be easier to replace with same one? Does safe t stabilizer do a better job then a stock stabilizer? Thank you

    • @ufixit
      @ufixit  2 роки тому

      Yes, it would be a lot easier to replace the stock stabilizer. Nothing at all wrong with that setup. The SafeTPlus has a 150lb return to center force. It helps with wandering and provides blowout protection. It isn’t a magic bullet though. I still had wandering and steering free play problems. I replaced both bell cranks and installed a rear track bar. I’ll have videos on those soon.

    Hey do you have any contact info? I’ve got a 1976 Itasca Winnebago Chevy and the manual I have says it’s a p30 but people have been telling me it’s a g30! I’m really confused

    • @ufixit
      @ufixit  2 роки тому +1

      Wow, 1976! What a cool machine. I wish I could help. My knowledge is limited to the P32 since that's what I have. It can be so frustrating working on these things. It seems like nothing is standard and part numbers are all over the place, even in the same year. I suspect the older one is, the harder it is to source parts.

      It is at a slight angle. Its not as much as it appears in the video.

    Was it worth it?

    • @ufixit
      @ufixit  Рік тому

      To me, yes. I did it in combination with new front shocks, rear sumo springs, rear track bar, and adjusting the slop out of my steering box. I can't say which component made the biggest difference but total result was night and day.

    There is one more thing that you need to go with your Safe T Plus for a wide track P32, that is a Spreader bar supersteerparts.com/products/1109-200-roadmaster-front-spreader-bar-for-chevy-workhorse-p30-class-a-motorhome-chassis-wide-track-only.html also note the spreader bar comes with an integrated Safe-T Plus mounting point that replaces the larger bracket.

      Thank you Ike. I wasn’t aware of that. I’m still learning myself. I assume its an optional upgrade. Henderson’s never mentioned it when I was talking to them ordering parts. To be fair, I didn’t ask, so..I will pin this to the top of the comments.

      @@ufixit One other note for you the stock steering dampener and the Safe-T Plus can both be installed at the same time. That is the way mine is set up (Safe-T Plus and new stock style dampener installed by Josams in Florida for the previous owner). This topic came up on one of the online Forums a few months ago (I think IRV2), and someone contacted Safe-T Plus and was told they can both be installed at the same time and that the instructions to the remove the stock one were incorrect.
