    One of our neighbor's chickens sat on six eggs they found in their barn, and when they hatched they were ducks! So now we're getting ducks, and I thank you for your video. We live in the country but I think the principles are essentially the same. These look like they're part Indian Runner, my favorites.

      What a wonderful surprise! Our ducks are Indian Runners (so the seller said) and we are learning more about them and their care everyday. Please keep us updated on your new ducklings. I wish we could share pics on here. hugs, Miss Annette

    Hi, I’ve had my pet ducks for almost 4 years now….you’re right, ducks are very messy! We hatched them during Covid stay home time…and do enjoy their silliness! Your ducks are really pretty!! We have cattle and often times raise pigs (who are also a bunch of fun!) but my ducks are just 2 little sisters who love each other and make me happy. I sure enjoy seeing yours….keep an eye on the water/ food situation….I get not wanting the mess, but they really do need water by their food. I’m sure you’ve noticed they will always eat and wash it down. In fact you’re never supposed to have feed down for them unless they have water….you seem really sharp and I’m sure you’re ten steps ahead of me, just thought I’d mention it. Love your video and seeing your ideas!! I am a new subscriber

      Thank you Lori for the input, I am always eager to learn new things. There is no learning curve with ducks is there? That's why they are some of the most abandoned animals, but yes I am constantly cleaning their water and changing things to accommodate their messy habits. I appreciate your input and thank you for watching.

    We started with Chickens, My first two Cayuga ducks are arriving soon. I'm getting a male and female. I have to agree with your research before they are purchased. I bought my ducks from Metzger's Farm.
    I had a concern about foot and beak care. I live in the City. I have a
    Stream that runs through the property. I converted a shed into a chicken coop and used a greenhouse tent reinforced with chicken wire to give a space for the chickens to gather. It stays cooler because of screens and overhanging trees.
    The shed is divided to house ducks and chickens. My Niece and I built a six foot high privacy fence around the property to keep them safe from predators. Chickens were wandering outside of their boundaries to roam. I felt the fence was necessary to keep the neighborhood buffered from our pets.
    Another thing my Niece did was growing food sources so the birds can forage. We have a variety of elderberry bushes, blackberry bushes. We grow the veggies we feed them in garden patches. Pumpkins, canalopes, watermelons, strawberries to name a few. Our chickens love kale. Two plants supply plenty of kale for 12 chickens and 2 ducks.
    I can send some pictures to share our little urban farm. Thanks for sharing. It is nice to see other city dwellers proving their own food. We get a dozen of eggs per week, sometimes more.
    It is my sincerest wish that people are empowered to have small urban farms to provide a safe alternative to mass produced foods. Our eggs have a better taste because large poultry farms provide basic feed. Our birds have a variety. I feel we raise our birds with love and that gives a healthier food supply. We take care of them, and in turn, they provide us with safer food sources.

    Thanks for the great video. I’m considering getting three runner ducks for fun companion and good character building for my young kids. How often do you clean out the duck house? I have a fenced space about 100 x 100 feet in the DC metro area.

    • @missannetteslittlefarminth9069
      @missannetteslittlefarminth9069  2 роки тому

      The duck house gets cleaned depending on the season, during summer when ducks get more time roaming maybe every two weeks, in winter we use the deep litter method but I scoop out the poop unless it's super gross then I replace the bedding. I give the house a good scrubbing with soap and water a couple of times a year. Thanks for watching. hugs

    Hey there! I this is my first video of yours that I've watched and I love your style already! Can I ask (and sorry if this is a silly question) do you know if the water used for the duck's baths can be reused for the garden? I wouldn't begrudge the ducks their baths but I would love not to 'waste' the water, as I am living in Australia and water usage is quite a concern!

    • @missannetteslittlefarminth9069
      @missannetteslittlefarminth9069  Рік тому +2

      I don't believe that any question is silly. Yes you can reuse the water, however I wouldn't use it if there was a lot of feed residue in it.( Corn gluten can kill your grass) I also wouldn't dump it in the same area everyday, because the nitrogen in the poo is high and can burn your grass. Those are the only two cautions I can think of. Thank you for the lovely compliment and for watching, hugs

    hey, I am interested in buying a duck what do you think I would need to look after one and is there a way to domesticate them, also is it possible to raise them in a house in a city? thanks

    • @missannetteslittlefarminth9069
      @missannetteslittlefarminth9069  2 роки тому +2

      I live in a city with a population of about 900,000 people on a little less than 1/2 an acre. I also have amazing supportive neighbors. I would check with the city ordinances first to see if livestock is possible. Next, research what kind of duck you would want and what kind of care that breed needs. Ducks are very cute but very messy, I wouldn't try to keep one in your home unless you have a dedicated space that is easily cleaned, but that is me. Ducks can be very fond of their humans but you have to spend time with them to develop their trust. These are just my thoughts and of course you do what works for you if you decide to get ducks. Good luck, we really are enjoying our ducks and continue to learn how to give them a good quality of life daily.
