    The second exercise is a killer... especially for the quads... How high are those wedges?

    • @CoachJustinCoxRF
      @CoachJustinCoxRF  4 роки тому +4

      Absolutely... Those wedges are the 20 degree angled wedges from prime

    What’s the benefit of the wedges & not doing them with feet flat ?

    • @CoachJustinCoxRF
      @CoachJustinCoxRF  12 днів тому

      You can target the quads more is why I personally like it.
      But with clients that have poor ankle mobility or different limb ratios like longer femurs it helps get them into a more stable position at the bottom position.

    How are the wedges on the knees though? Being 6 tall eith long legs, i have found even a 5 lbs plate under my feet forces too much weight forward on my knees. Seems lkke wedges would do me right in

      Since I got long legs too...I can just tell you to start doing "Hindu Squats"...you got train your tissues the right way, also with high reps...I got no more problems with patella-inflammations or similar problems...
      And then you are able to do every kind of exercises, no matter how much stress you put on your knees, even Bodyweight-Sissy Squats are starting to feel good!!

    I'm just finding this, but I definitely gotta try these. Would you say doing these with the low handles and wedges is a good alternative to back squats, or is it still more of a deadlift?

    • @CoachJustinCoxRF
      @CoachJustinCoxRF  Рік тому +2

      Yeah to make it more like a squat I’d make sure your torso angle is more upright and you let the knee’s travel forward to replicate a squat pattern, I did these as a great alternative to a back squat during lock down in my garage 🙌 and then for deadlifts I just changed my hip position to load the hamstrings and glutes more. I also love doing RDLs in the trap bar

      @@CoachJustinCoxRF Thanks for the response! The only squats I've been able to do are DB Bulgarian split squats just cause having the barbell on my back irritates my knee so it's nice to have another bilateral squat exercise.

      Absolutely as long as u get a lot of knee flexion. Try to use smaller plates if u can, but definitely elevate the heels no matter what.

    How do I make sure I am doing a deadlift and not a squat with the hex bar?

    • @garysellars8914
      @garysellars8914 2 роки тому +2

      Don't bend your legs as much and bend from the hips so your torso is more bent over rather than your knees being heavily flexed.

    • @CoachJustinCoxRF
      @CoachJustinCoxRF  2 роки тому +2

      Exactly what Gary said, less knee bend (knee flexion) more hinge at the hips.
      For deadlifts I like to think slight knee bend then reach or push the hips back as you lower the weight 👌🏻

    • @CoachJustinCoxRF
      @CoachJustinCoxRF  3 роки тому

      I love these variations, I often use them instead of Barbell squats for quad development. I'd say choosing an appropriate load ( with good technique) and rep scheme for hypertrophy you will still get those covid gains

    Curious I've never used the plastic heels your standing on while doing the trap bar squat! What do those do? or do they train more hamstrings?

    • @CoachJustinCoxRF
      @CoachJustinCoxRF  Рік тому +2

      They are steel wedges made by prime strength.
      They are great for getting deeper in the squat position, by helping people with limited ankle range and or people with longer femurs.
