I've looked for that Raidió na Gaeltachta theme tune a few times and couldn't find it. Lovely to hear it after all these years. Reminds me of waking up in my grandmother's house on Saturday mornings.
We had one of these in the house when I was growing up. It spent it's life the drawer in the hall because nobody knew what to do with it. I think I might hve to buy one now.
I consider myself very fortunate to have come across this amazing and very interesting video, especially the man's description of how to play the Trump's, that was such great comedy. I have been inspired. Thank you Cormac.
A really interesting program and great to see my uncles, John and Michael Wright featured. I also play jews harp, both with my family and previously as part of the band, Pilgrims' Way. There are relatively few female jews harp players today, although there are records of women playing as early as 1591.
Thanks so much for letting us know about your connection with the programme. We are delighted there has been so much interest in Cormac's video and the jews harp.
Thanks Cormac. Fascinating and well researched. I know Jews Harps were used in Ireland during Elizabethan times. Mike Seeger, Pete Seeger's half brother was a player and Jews Harp advocates. Mike was a skilled fiddler, singer and eminent musicologist.
I had plenty as a kid, played em so much the tongues would break, then I'd get another. Must have annoyed my mother to hell! Now I've gotta look out for some more. Sorry darling, if you're reading this. Blame Cormac! Lol. Great doc fella. Thank you!
Because of Cormac's study of An Trumpa via ITMA I bought one on Amazon for $8. I'm learning to play it now. It's fun! I actually had one when I was a kid but could never get any sound out of it. But nowadays with the internet I could look up how to play it. Now I'm getting lots of tones.
Excellent work Cormac. Hope this inspires more people to twang a wee bit. I remember Allen MacDonald pulling out a set in different keys in a session in Kilkenny.
I remember Robin Williamson starting his set in the packed childrens concert at the Spring Fair in Lampeter one year with a jews harp . It was the closest sound I've ever heard to a synthesiser - only better .
Mighty stuff Cormac! Well researched and presented - well done! However you might want to give that bank card a wipe before you go looking for cashback again!
Brilliant work, thank you for Cormac and the program! I am for a while into jews harp theme and this was first time i saw footage from Cambodia. Had to dig a bit and maneged to find full 17min video. Half personal question for Cormac: any scheduled festivals you are going to participate this year? I would like to experience some Irish music festival and looking for recomendations:) Greetings from Lithuania
Enjoyed that so much, some fine players , have always loved overtone and throat singing, would love to hear you playing with these guys Cormac ua-cam.com/video/R2ovoRyv4kw/v-deo.html , right off to to get An Trumpa now..............might be playing a few tunes yet!
I know of one or two, including the late Leonard Cohen. BTW "jaws harp" is an attempt (nineteenth century?) to make sense of the older name "Jews harp" which has no satisfactory explanation.

Thanks for the kind words about the video - really glad you enjoyed it. You can catch up with Cormac's tours etc on www.cormacbegley.com/
Sure, the old man at 5:30 speaks a hard, difficult Irish.
The irish song was the one that I could make musical sense of.the others sounded like rhythm only

I think jaws harp would be more correct. I do not know of a single Jewish person who plays this instrument, and it is connected to the jaw.
