I'm glad you ended up on a good note with Violet Detector as a whole. It's nice to see people enjoying new gimmicks even if they're not given enough solid ground as you've stated. Perhaps the follow up to that game could end up having something revolutionary that will positively affect everyone! As with your editing, I'm truly famished with every frame I managed to catch. Everything about it was smooth and deliberate, which made it much easier to understand and kept very high entertainment! Definitely will be giving a good few rewatches to purely enjoy it again!

I'm really glad zun is still creating more photo games and you made a video about VD. I really enjoyed it, yet haven't beatin it. Loved to concept since shoot the bullet came out and having the shooting mechanic in VD makes it more enjoyable imo. Yes these games can be really frustrating but as a fellow photographer it's so satisfying getting those epic shots and not dying. But also Aya's the best.
Great video as always, very interesting look at the game. I enjoyed it myself, definitely the weakest photo game IMO but still pretty fun to play. My biggest problem was how many spellcards felt too similar to already existing ones, but the teleportation thing never bothered me at all. I think using the C key instead should definitely have been at least an option (before someone modded it in) but I found it weirdly satisfying to quickly double-tap, especially in clutch moments. I've heard people say it's easy to pull off accidentally but it only happened once or twice to me. I found it kinda weird how you had to take at least one picture to clear the scene when the real goal is killing the boss though. Since taking photos isn't totally necessary this way, I think it would have been interesting to give your score more importance. Maybe a scene would only count as cleared if you beat the boss while meeting a score goal, or stages could be unlocked based on your total score instead of how many scenes you've cleared. Actually, the former has shown up in StB and DS, where you need to hit a certain score on each spell to unlock Aya/Hatate's comment on the card, but the goals are usually ridiculously easy to reach. This game also made me realize how stupid playtime achievements are. I beat every scene after about 7 hours of playtime but you need 10 for one of the nicknames, so I had to glitch the game to continue indefinitely after the boss times out, since time spent in menus doesn't count, and leave my computer just sitting there for a few hours.
The double-tap is what threw off a lot of people I know, hence why I decided to talk about it. It's true that it quickly becomes an habit to double-tap, but you can still fail it unintentionaly when trying to pass a difficult card. (Okina's second card is such an example.) It's true that the way the photos were implemented wasn't the best way possible, but I feel it's this way since ISC, although in ISC, you had other options to detract you from the problem. Although it's true that the comments are really easy to unlock now, you really need to fail your photo entirely or not take one to not have the comment at all. As for playtime achievements...well it depends on the player, in the end. It took me almost 15 hours to beat the game since I'm kinda bad at danmaku in general, so I didn't really have a problem with playtime achievements, what was stupid though was adding a really high "Death Cancel" achievement, around 500 times if I'm not mistaken. By the time you unlock it, it's a bit long to grind for it. But yeah, the game is still good but feels a bit rushed in a way, it could use some polish.
Yeah I don't really agree with double-tapping being the only way to teleport, it'd make a nice alternative I guess just but pressing C would be far more responsive. As for the death cancel achievement, I didn't even really notice that one when I was playing but that's pretty dumb too, it's more of a grind than an actual...uh, achievement. I guess it's not a huge deal since it's not like the achievements matter too much but there's something satisfying about completing as many as you can, so I sometimes find it hard to resist. It's just that the actual process of getting some of them could be more fun.
I hate having to use the C key, it's just far. My favorite mapping was in 12.8. Shift to focus, x to bomb but z to charge ice and Ctrl to shoot. I prefer by far skipping some conversation by accident than to use the C key
