Wow, cracking video. The drone footage is particularly amazing. You’ve really captured the power of the sea. The drivers are certainly taking a risk if they aren’t locals and have no alternative. Salt water is really bad for your car, never mind the risk of rocks and not being insured. Sand is the same for that matter, as it’s a high salt content, even the desert variety will cause your car to rust. Great stuff fella.
Living inland we grumble about the council putting salt down on the roads in winter and rotting our cars. At least you get the service for free (with a free sand blast too).
Ignoring any road sign/signal is an offence, carries the same penalty, min £100 and 3 points to a max of careless driving. A drink driver who crashes while under the infuence doesn't even invalidate their policy, yes in this instance it gets downgraded to 3rd party only but it is still honoured. So you are insured even if you ignore a road sign.
Insurance is valid if you drive through per reliable sites on Google. Driving without insurance, apart from being irresponsible (what if you hit someone?)... is an endorseable offence and with so many people doing it there the police would take action at least against a few if only to get the message out. You always get some amazing footage with these vids, just keep safe 👍
It would be extremely difficult for an insurance company to determine your position if you made a claim upon them. There is so many points a person can argue against.
There's no way you get all of the salt. It will get into plugs and sockets and corrode copper lines, collect in corners and stay there when the water evaporates, it'll just stay where it is and eat your car. Misfiring control boxes and ECUs, shorted ignition sparks, all kinds of shite.
So a soft closure basically means you should only use the road if you have a legitimate reason to be there, so not a traffic offence to use it. But from an insurance point of view making a claim for damages to your vehicle on a soft closed road when you had no legitimate reason to be there could invalidate your insurance.
Driving your car through salt water spray means one of two things: You either have _really_ important business to take care of there or you just hate your car. Ten seconds of that shortens the life of your car by five years and triples the maintenance cost on the way there.
6 40 Around year 2000 we saw a closure of a road near Howarth and a bloke thought the road closure did not mean him in his invincible 4 x 4 so proceeded to remove the barriers and drive through, little did he know the road had a landslide right across it, so he came back thrashing the engine with a screwed up evil look on his face as though it was the landslides fault, but the thing is he just left the barriers removed, what a complete prick he was, so we put the barriers back. Looked like he could lose his temper big style with the slightest thing ! Gaz Yorkshire coast.

My late nannas favourite place Sandsend will hold a special place in my heart for as long as I live
God rest Nanna x
Cracking drone footage on there Glenn great video.
That was one angry ocean, can't believe those drivers taking it on!
I was brought up in sandsend from 1954 till 1969 and during this time we had huge waves during spring time
Amazing video, great commentary. The drone video is awesome
Fantastic video 😍🌹thanks you 👏👏👏

I'm amazed by the stability of the drone.
Fantastic video. Great to watch

One if my favourite places
Any driver going through sea water like this is a clown, it is far more corrosive than freshwater and will certainly shorten the life of your vehicle.
Great video.

Looks like a few drivers should have gone to specsavers.
When was this. Date. Time. ??
The cars would need a good wash to get the salt off.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside . !
All that saltwater all over your car. There is no way I would be taking mine through there!

Watch the rust start coming through in a few months.
Nice salt bath for the cars.
If you need to get home take the chance.
The other way round is ten minutes, and your fully insured to drive there.
Pity the police wasn’t there to book the drivers who went through the road closed sign and booked them all
