Globally Warmed Or Globally Chilled ?? Today was the first day of the much hyped ;) "Artic Blast". I spent the day out with the camera at Whitby and Saltwick Bay filming the rough sea.
Whitby is the most beautiful place Ive ever visited. Stayed above the chippy overlooking the boats to the hilltop best room view Ive ever had. I could have lived there no worries.
Love the sound of the North Sea in full roar. I remember photographing this wonderful looking sculpture someone had added to the Saltwick bay side pier in Whitby one year, and the next year I came it had mysteriously vanished - apparently ripped off in a winter storm. I have always loved Black Nab, I remember walking the other side of it in the 70's to touch the Admiral when it was parked in the pool the other side. Before the North Sea took care of it, and I still love sitting there close to the sea and far enough away from land to drown out the sound of people. I would love to see archive images of the sisters - as I naturally have only seen one. And for fun, in August I spent a few nights in Whitby Holiday Park, and stood on Saltwick beach as the light went, and high tide was a shade rough drinking wine with my wife. Nice evening.
@@DS-cf1zc Ah yes I remember it b being there for a while, thanks for reminding me. It was one of Emma Stothards although I dont recall where it went. It was called "The Boulby Pteradactyl" I have a pic of it somewhere when it was on Staithes Pier. I'll see if I can find it out for you.
@@DS-cf1zc Ah yes "The Boulby Pterodactyl" thanks for reminding me as I had forgot it wa son there for a while. I wonder where it went. Sure Ive got some pics of it on Staithes pier. Ill see if I can find them.
@@thewhitbyphotographer Just googled it - and yes that is the little devil - good to know it wasnt washed off the pier, as it was a really nice looking piece of art.
I am from Stoke on Trent and I love Whitby, Scarborough, Filey, robbin hood bay , staiths, Bridlington, runswick bay truly amazing 👌 Thank you for the fantastic video 👍👍👍
Lovely, nature in the raw, no annoying muzak, thanks for all your vids, loved Whitby every time we went (loads over the years), maybe ice grips for those slimy rocks, slip them on and off over any shoes. You know they are like big black rubber bands with nails in 'em for grip. Take care out there.
Hi Glenn, many, many thanks for doing this video at Saltwick Bay, I'm feeling so emotional watching this as this place brings back so many happy memories I've had many happy times spent here my late Mum & Dad hired Caravans for many years before eventually buying our very own Caravans & together with my late Brother enjoyed weekends & holidays. Thank you for sharing, take care😊
I've never felt so cold watching a video -3c here in Hartlepool. But well captured video of natures roar and ending with a calming shot of Whitby boats
Wild and beautiful! I've been to Whitby back in the seventies. I loved it. Captain James Cook left from Whitby and researched and mapped the East coast of Australia ( Queensland, where I live)and many other places. He was a brave and skilled navigator!!
Absolutely beautiful place, Whitby. We spent six weeks there last year & had a couple of storms, but wasn’t this cold in September/October. I like to tell my friends here in South Africa that we have ‘real weather’ on the North Yorkshire coast! Looks like a great day for a couple of pints in The Duke of York, then a bracing walk over the bridge for fish & chips at Trenchers or The Magpie.
Was in Sleights, rewiring a property earlier and you could feel the cold and hear the sea as the weather travelled inland, down the Esk Valley..............Definitely Arctic ish..............;)
@@thewhitbyphotographer Yeah, Went via Ugglebarnby to Sleights and plenty of ice on the backroads to keep it interesting a drive.........be carefull where the sun dont shine, especially behind the hedges!
Having watched them for years I think they really enjoy it. On an evening when it's a strong northerly wind, you can see them just hovering over town in groups. Im sure they do it just for fun, and Im sure if I could fly Id be doing just the same.
I remember real winters when the Royal Mail was taken by boat around the coast because the snow was impassable by road from Redcar Whitby Scarborough, Filey & Bridlington ,but we still had to go to school in Scalby ,

Yes I nearly did get to move there but I ended up in a more countryside dwelling which now I do prefer. Some fantastic sunsets and rises.
Brilliant video, I love to see and hear the power of the sea in a storm. Thank you for sharing your video. Hope you kept warm
Awesome, you've captured the roaring energy amazingly, fantastic filming! Appreciate you braving the elements
You captured the true ferocious power of mother nature ..... So calming makes me appreciate power of the wind and sea
Fantastic from beginning to end. 👍
Thankyou thats very kind.
@@thewhitbyphotographer You are more than welcome. It felt like I was actually standing there and it did look cold. 👍
Love these videos. been visiting whitby since I was a child and its my favourite place. its great to see whats going on.

Suffering for your art, well done. Lovely sound of the sea. Whitby is a beautiful place.

Out of interest what was the sculpture of ? I remember Emma STOTHARD put a willow lobster on the scar one year.
@@thewhitbyphotographer It was like a large wire frame Pterodactyl. A definite thing of the beauty, well for the short time. it was there.

Wild chill on the north Norfolk coast is the same - a lazy wind ;)
Lovely shots again and thanks for keeping the wind noise, truly atmospheric.
spectacular scenes ! God Bless-from Ireland 🙂
Very enjoyable, please do some more ,goes hand in hand with your brilliant captures of the season's in and around whitby 🦇🌊
Great film and commentary. Looking forward to my trip to Whitby in March.
Have fun!
The sea looks very angry! Good video.
Oh to be in Whitby now that Winter Time is here.
Summer is nice as well, but it gets so busy.
I spent three years at East Barnby Camp known as RAF Goldsborough, It is the next place to heaven in the summer.. Wonderful Whitby and its people..
Was there a nuclear bunker at Goldsborough Geoff ?
Excellent video and interesting information. 👏👏👏
I felt absolutely nithered just watching it and much as I love the sea the thought of that water catching me Brrr. Well done you for braving it .
That was a wild arctic blast was'nt it!! I liked the contrasts with the calm scenes especially the birds foraging and your last sunshine shot😊
Thanks Norma. Certainly a better ending to the day.

Beautiful stunning video ❤
Loved the saltwick shots ❤
Cheers Liam.
Wonderful images, very dramatic!
Wonderful thank you
Wonderful filming ❤❤ Hope you had your thermals on lol , love your videos 😊
Yeah I had so many layers I could barely move. Was great to be out in it though.
Beautiful scenery. Well done for the fantastic photos. You must have felt cold!
Fab footage 😊
I love Whitby ❤
Excellent filming.
Might be worth a trip to sandsend for a bit of fishing on Saturday after this storm
Sat next to the radiator, yet this gave me goosebumps. Sounds freezing cold
Loved it all.
Lovely stuff
Was in Sleights, rewiring a property earlier and you could feel the cold and hear the sea as the weather travelled inland, down the Esk Valley..............Definitely Arctic ish..............;)
I went to sleights this morning and it was 3 degrees colder than Whitby. Shows the difference getting away from the warm sea makes.

Im a southern softy that lived in Sleights one winter. Never again :)

Great footage!
I live in sleights and the cold was almost numbing this morning. It was like the artic definitely wearing my ski jacket tomorrow!
there was forcast snow for this week but I dont think thats gonna happen but ya never know!
Looking at the forecast we may get a dusting, but nothing much I dont think.
@@thewhitbyphotographer yeah hopefully the roads wont be slippy!
The seagulls are amazing, they don´t seem to be affected by the strong wind.

Lol, now they have a day off school if there's an icey footpath.
Fantastic footage! Thanks for getting frozen!
Wouldn’t mind some of that, 41c here today.
Peace after storm.
The sea was a bit choppy...
Brilliant videography - I felt cold just watching!
Love Whitby ❤
To much for me , only lived near the south coast . A great video though . One has to be tough to live up there .🤔👍
arctic and seas. make us sound daft.
I must admit I do miss the many mood of the sea
It's cold in summer in Whitby 😂😂
Spent many a year walking that for fossils 😊
I remember when admiral van tromp was wrecked on saltwick nab an interesting story
Great channel. What camera do you use? I’m from Selby and use a GH5 with various manual focus and anamorfake lenses.
Hi John, is that a Panasonic ? they make awesome cameras. Not heard of the lenses but will look them up. Im using a fuji xt5 with Fuji Glass.
@@thewhitbyphotographer yeah Panasonic. Love your channel and footage. The surfing one should win an award mate. Amazing.
@@johncarter2741 Hey thank you thats very kind. My first camera was Panasonic, and they are some of the best pics Ive ever taken.
Who's here to warn Whitby residents they have a yellow snow alert coming from the Arctic? And everyone knows you don't eat yellow snow!
Definitely brass monkey weather!
It's called winter!😂
Surf's up.
I've spent the day under my electric throw
I've was over Whitby way a few times with my drone and caught some good footage at 5am with the sun on the horizon.
It's on my channel.
I thought that an ‘artic blast’ was when a big lorry lets off the air brakes…..
Im not sure what it is, but I can say for sure it doesn't involve any snow or ice.
This weather is normal for Great Britain it's always been cold some years have been a lot worse than this
Bit choppy
