  • What was life like for ordinary working-class children living in the suburbs or on the fringes of Australian cities in the early 1900s? How different or similar was their day to yours?
Step into the shoes of the Youngein children, Jim and Dolly, from Susannah Place, Sydney and find out how they lived.
Do you have a bathroom in your home? Some of you may have more than one! We take it for granted that homes all have bathrooms, but this wasn’t always the case. In fact, indoor plumbing was still a modern convenience in the early 1900s.
Imagine if you didn’t have a bathroom in your house. Where would you go to the toilet? How and where would you wash yourself? Do you think you would wash as frequently as you do now?
Find out what the Youngeins did before their washhouse was built.
