Yessir. Same 😆
Big Stretch!!!!! Not Like US, is a Sample from Ray Charles. Y'all so Gullible and Goofy
Came here after the knock knock from Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us song.
It's crazy that this song was made by African-Americans in Atlanta, Georgia to mock white slaveholders! I'm learning more and more about black culture through Kendrick's music and art, and I'm glad to be his fan ❤
Thanks for sharing and welcome to the video!
The song was made by a white man.
@@jsongs20082007 that's what they all say but "certain" people know the truth lol
There were no such thing as African American in 1899. Stop trying to erase us... He was a Negroe.
Charles Hale's 'At a Darktown Cakewalk' sample of Franz Liszt's 'Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2'
who is here after Kendrick Lamar Video?
Quite a few now!
I love that Kendrick’s music make people do their homework and gain knowledge on stuff fr 💛
Thousands of people have found this since the video dropped. It’s incredible.
The fact that this has so little views just shows the world still does not know the universal knock knock song
Some day! Thanks for listening.
I now know & it's mind blowing 😁
Welcome to the club!
I'm only just finding it out now after it was added to the subtitles in a show where a character knocks it on a door
@Shoshoneee Ayyy welcome!
Kendrick is so savage for having this level of depth to his Not Like Us Dis. Shave and a Hair Cut 2 Bits. Diabolical!
Welcome to the crew!

Kendrick Lamar is directly influencing the growth of my channel at the moment. 😂
@VizuosoMusic someone pointed out the meaning of the knock in the music video, and I think people are coming to check it out themselves...
Here for the same reason
That’s awesome. Glad I could share this song with so many.
Who's still listening to this in 2024? Legends.
Not enough! 🙌🏼

EDIT: oh shit I just realized this comment might actually be here even after I die...
Hello future humans, I wish you all the best.
@@VizuosoMusic why is the truth always so sad?
The knock brings out the philosopher in us all 🥲
Hello
So we did create that “Black Knock” ✊🏾
The history is really quite interesting.
It was part of the culture, that knock means Soo much more ,it let you know that everything was okay.
@@reginagolden3291ty for that brotha.
I’m here cause I was trying to figure out where the motif was from
And the rest of the song is impressive too!
The re-education of the USA through popular music! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I'm here for the same reasons 2024
This ragtime composition is great! Theres more than just Scott Joplin too.
Art is the best history teacher ❤

@pedrojoelramirezdelaguila2212 same!
Professor Kendrick said it best..FOR THE CULTURE..🎉🎉
Welcome to the video!
I had to dj a event using a lot of cake walk songs and didn’t even know about this one. The fact Kendrick brought BACK to the music is crazy!
That’s awesome! Got any good ones?
Came to this after the Not Like Us music video dropped because I wondered why tf we all knocked like this when we were little. The Dan LeBatard Show like 3 weeks ago had old man Greg Cote of the Miami Herald talk about "Shave And A Haircut... 2 Bits." So that was my starting point. From there I found a What Is Music? video about it. That gave me the original name of this song. Here I am 2:50 into the song as I type this. Shoutout to Kendrick Lamar lmao
Interesting! That’s cool to know how you found this video!
WHY IS THIS ENGRAVED IN ALL OUR MINDS??? WHAT IS THIS SORCERY???
Knock-knock knock-knock-knock… KNOCK KNOCK!!
It’s the motif, it’s used in a lot of songs
Or maybe Samsung? Or was it iPhone... One of them used this as ring tone 😆
@@Volgin93 that’s gotta be the catchiest ring tone 😅
@@VizuosoMusic It was indeed 😆
Once again Atlanta influence everything
That’s where it originated!

Thank Kendrick for bringing you here 😂
The origin of Shave and a haircut
Indeed!
2 bits!
Found on my journey for a shave and haircut
Welcome to the beginning. It’s the oldest known usage and arguable origin of the melody!
Makes one wonder what other tunes or sayings we were brought up using with racist undertones or subliminal meanings. There is so much to be learned. All hail Kendrick Lamar, we appreciate the lessons.
Finding the historical origins of many things can be quite fascinating but also pretty disheartening.
Here i am finally solving the mystery of why i knock like this, all my friends thought i made it up but I knew i didnt
I felt the same way when I found out! I had to share it.
Satisfaction.
Thank you!
¡Por fin! Durante toda mi vida he golpeado puertas usando este ritmo y nunca había sabido su título ni origen. Otro misterio más de la cultura pop ha sido resuelto. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So happy you found this video!
Not the only on who came here after Kendrick’s knock 😂 views are about to 📈
Over 1,700 since his release, it’s so funny

I had a delivery guy in his 20s that told me about this!! I'm in my 50s. That's one intelligent young man!! He said he studies many things on the internet. He knocked like this and I told him that I wondered where that knock came from lol.😂
Now you know! Glad I can share!

Shave and a haircut, two bits
Classic!
Kendrick Lamar’s music video brought me here and I’m full on intrigued if it’ll do the same for others 🤔
Kendrick Lamar is actively contributing to this video exploding right now 🤣
My daughter and i were just singing the ending part " shave and a haircut two bits"
Fun!
Well now I know. Only took me 60 years or so. hah
Never too late! 😅
Shave and a haircut, shampoo!
🎶🎶
I will subscribe since you helped me find this universal tune
Thank you so much! I’m glad I could help!
Nobody:
Absolutely no one:
My brain with the clacson of my car: 🎶🎶🎶
That would get someone’s attention quickly 😂
This song is an absolute bop!
But the original title is kinda unfortunate 😅
A product of its time it appears. My #shorts version tries to focus on “shave and a haircut” a bit more.
It’s not like in 1899 they were able to be like “gee, that title isn’t going to sit well 100 years from now, maybe we ought to think of a different one.” Can you imagine what parts of our vernacular may be deemed unacceptable in 100 years? Or even the next 100 minutes
@@seanmaher3518 That’s the joy of language! And the joy of how we can look back at the history of this song and appreciate the music.
@@VizuosoMusic exactly. You can appreciate music, or even just parts of music, and that doesn’t make anyone racist or slave owners
_oh, that’s what that means…_
At a Darktown Cakewalk, by Charles Hale

Been knocking like this my whole life; nfs
And now you know!
Thanks KDot. I’m doing research
Everyone’s coming here.
Aye this go hard🔥 way better than these rappers today pure talent and playing an instrument!
It’s truly timeless!
Well, I think some rap is pretty cool. MF DOOM and a couple others are closer to poetry than anything.
What a strange comparison.
Amazing! You must have a gift because one of the most iconic lyricist use this jingle to educate the masses on Atlanta, GA
This is the origin of the jingle!
Por fin encuentro el significadooo
Congratulations!
Kendrick is a genius by using this knock he called Drake a black face performance
Welcome to the video!
Never would have known, learning through Kendrick Lamar’s music time after time..
Many people have from him!
kdot
Lots of people are here because of him.
I don't know why when I'm hearing this song, I imagine a scene of the video game Red Dead Redemption
Interesting! It would make sense given the genre.
I mean the song was from the 1800's so I think it would fit the time period, no?
type of song you’d hear playing in the saloon
@kaoliin definitely!
Took three years to find the origin…
That’s exactly why I made this video!
All these fkn years of doing it never new where is came from thats crazy how much we don't know
And this is just the oldest KNOWN usage!
not like us -2024
Welcome to you and everyone else haha!
I see dead people 👀
Never thought the two would ever connect

Welcome to the crew, so many of you haha
And now i know!!
Welcome to the club!
History is learned everyday!!
Glad you learned the origin!
I'm a man in its 40s from Chile and finally knowing where the knock came from.
Never too late!
My friend learnt it from Frozen, but she absolutely refuses to believe that the response is an actual thing and ALWAYS looks at me weird and I am so showing her this video because I DO KNOW THIS JINGLE (I am also 17 so definitely in this 'new generation')
It’s everywhere! But yeah, this is the earliest known usage of it!
I'm here cause I saw the title on subs of the walking dead 😅
Yessssss!
One of the world's first comedy music pieces, reminds me a lot of Barney
Now that takes me back 😅
Kendrick a genius

I’m here from Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Amazing film.
Kendrick Lamar used the Knock Knock version in his video and paid homage to Charles Hale - At A Darktown Calkwalk (1899)…
Also, Darktown used to be a city in Atlanta, Ga
That’s amazing. Thanks for listening!
@@VizuosoMusic
Go watch the video ‘Not Like Us’ and the start of video a clown on the door and it’s rhythm of the ‘Shave and Haircut, Two Bits’ and then after that you hear the beat Charles Hale - At A Darktown Cakewalk (1899).. they start doing Cakewalk dance leads into CripWalk
@shawnlittle73 yeah as soon as everyone flocked here talking about his new video I had to check it out.
He was NOT paying homage to Charles hale. The message went way above your head. It's the meaning of cake walk and darktown that he's referencing along with the tune which was used during "catwalks. And the visuals. Google is your friend, so do some research.
You are correct but “homage” can be as simple as an acknowledgement, which he did.
