Sonic's gameplay in concept is meant for speedrunning. The classic developers often talked on the philosophy of their games and they made so speed would be rewarded to players who played multiple times through a stage. That's what many people dont realize and I think later games in the series only struggle with the balance of what level design is and isnt too punishing for the average player. Sonic games are entirely dependent on level design being pitch perfect. Mania and Sonic 2 are prime examples of this working perfectly. So in a sense, you're absolutely correct. Maybe not exactly the way dev's thought, but this is more of a top level version of what they were going for.
This is amazing. This isn't me bragging but I'm close to almost every one of these times and it kills me sometimes to see some new tech I never even thought used. It's always impressive to see how other runners play this game, helps me learn a lot myself. Keep up the speedrunning my friend you're killing it.
@@tylerd1297 I've gone back and forth a few times myself. Especially on stages like Studiopolis Act 1 and Lava Reef Act 1. But I never recorded myself so nobody knew haha. I should start getting a capture card and do that.
@@stormcutter59 don't you use the built in feature for replays/saves (in mania itself)? It's not very good but xbox also has a built in cc that can upload directly to UA-cam
@@tylerd1297 Actually I have the game on Switch only (I'm "Thunder" on the Switch Leaderboards FYI). And on top of that my Replay feature is broken. Not that it would save straight to UA-cam anyways. I think I might get the game for PS4 if I end up doing this. Seems like the best option.
@@stormcutter59 Ahh. Isn't the switch like the worst one to Speedrun on? I could be wrong I just heard it ran the worst. But that sucks I also remember my replay feature not working. This dude eventually pulled way ahead of me within a month of not playing anyway.

I always go for the right side and drop dash to the left but I've tried it your way and I'm not sure how you're doing it while painting momentum. It feels like a tight window
At 0:17 seconds you see how you jumped and you stayed in that solid blue animation I believe you see if briefly before drop dash but I see you can activate the animation through jumping and normal spin dashes …I’ve always been so curious how to do this no matter how fast I go I never see it when I jump or spin dash sonic still remains a transparent in his ball animation . Any tips on how to do it ?
this animation bug happends deppending on the fps on the screen, because depending on the fps, when sonic fast spins, the monitor can only reproduce one of the sonic spinning animation. SEGA have added two sprites tipes on sonic spinning: the spin, and the blue ball. When sonic spins fast, one frame is used for the blue ball, and other frame is used for the spin sprites, but some monitors cannot reproduce a really fast changing of frames, but in 60 frames per second you will se what sega want you to see a, smooth sonic spinning (Sorry for bad explanation)
At the very end of the first level how are you able to speed down the tunnel and jump all the way over to bounce off the crab at the end? Iv tried a million times and come nowhere near the crab?
I hate it when a glitch cheapens one. But surprisingly few glitches, even so! Most of this was really awesome. I wonder what the records for other characters are (especially Knuckles since he gets his own stage).

@@stormcutter59Just before the jump, when i see the camera go up i hold left and jump. You can get it pretty consistent with practice.

Safe to say I did see this man in the world records and my record was so close to his I just needed to not choke
same. I'm usually about 5 seconds behind even when I take slower paths. Now that I know about new paths I keep slipping

I had very good times like a 43 I think second speedrun of green hill zone and it deleted every single time I had in every zone and act for no reason
