@@Inspectorshed His style and feel is just so musical and can be technical at the same time. Even when his style sounds like it's overplaying, it really actually isn't and it just adds rather than takes away from the music. That's why he sounds better live in my opinion; not a single timing mistake and he allows himself to make the drum parts more interesting without "overplaying" in the true sense of the word. Also, his technique and sensitivity, musically and technically are near perfect from what I've heard over the years of his playing. Also his genre knowledge and ability to play different genres is great.
@@khronscave That's a fair comparison. He's at the pinnacle of his instrument, versatile, musical as hell, and his kit sounds amazing. Just like Guthrie. They need to play together
I started listening to porcupine tree literally like today and leaned about Gavin Harrison and Steven Wilson. 15 mins ago... This notification turned up!!
Pranav Govil man I’m jealous. I remember how cool it was to hear a song I’d never heard by them before. Mellotron Scratch in the breakdown the vocals are chilling and beautiful, Heart Attack in A Layby too, very haunting. Fear of A Blank Planet is the album that got me into them and I hooked a lot of people on PT by letting them hear Anesthetize.
Such great advice for every level Drummer… Another awesome video from Gavin! Two huge thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻 from American One Productions Drum and Rehearsal Studio in NJ 🥁
My lord that kits sounds fantastic. Sonor is all I will ever buy from now on. Currently Own a great sounding sonor essential Birch thats perfect for gigging and trying to decide on an SQ1 Birch or a Prolite Maple for my home kit.
Let's forget the unsurpassed skill and professionalism he owns... But that example of someone playing a little tiny bit off-sync between the hi-hats and the bass drums is just ABSOLUTELY INSANE! Gavin is the goat... No doubt about this
Hello Drumeo and Gavin! Im really Thankful to Drumeo for creating such content, it's really great Learning from drummers like Gavin Harrison. #helpingalot :) I just wanted to ask that can we play all the grooves keeping the Heel Down for Bass drum, or it's advisable to keep Heel UP and play using toes. ?
"99% of the evening we play easy rythms.." muhaha, I can understand the message but I must say this is what I would never think of Gavin's drumming, doesn't matter which band or gig I am listening to
The same to me, he was excellent with PT, I saw them on Sunday, one of the best concerts I've ever seen (although the sound was not perfect, many small details of Gavin's play could only be seen but actually not heard)
I understand drumsets can be expensive, but if you're dependent on a giveaway to try to get one then maybe drumming isn't for you. And if you just want free stuff, drumsets are expensive and can't just be given away.
No such thing as easy rhythms , consistency and accuracy takes a higher level of concentration that make the difference between pro and amateur.... that's why you should never look at any drummer doing a top level gig and think "well that's easy, I can do that"
This term is used way way way too loosely now days but in Gavins case truly one of the few that meet the criteria for being called a master class percussionist other examples professor Peart, Mike Mangini just for reference and Lars of course Just kidding lol 🤣
Bass players should have their own sense of time for when drummers deliberately play off time and all over the place, or vice versa, doing the counting in the back of their mind. This is magic of a rhythm section. This lesson is limited
This is probably the single best tip I've ever heard for any drummer looking to break out of "intermediate" territory.
This is exactly why Gavin is one of the best drummers in the world
Joash Cornelius how so?
Caleb Hays I'd say because of his attention to detail.
@@Inspectorshed have you heard him he sounds perfect

My favourite drum teacher Gavin Harrison I cannot stop loving his drum beat on Bill WITHER’S LOVELY Day
I love his drum technique
The fact he uses such a chill song like Bill Withers’ Lovely Day as a reference for a bass drum exercise is one of the reasons I love this drummer 🥁
This video is a must for drummers. The bit from the 4 minute mark is pure gold.
Humble superdrummer. Thanks for existing, gavin
Would it be safe to say he's something like the Guthrie Govan of drums? I think it is...
@@khronscave That's a fair comparison. He's at the pinnacle of his instrument, versatile, musical as hell, and his kit sounds amazing. Just like Guthrie. They need to play together
his the perfect mix between technique, power, sound cleaning and precision.
Hes never trivial and hes a great professional! 💪
Stuff like this is what makes Gavin great - so much attention to detail and being methodical about making everything sound GOOD.
Love these small clips of Gavin’s. Great point on the amount of time you’re playing groove compared to fills
That kit sounds amazing.
Sonor. Collector and player here. :) Good basic lesson. Get a teacher rather than a youtube lesson. A teacher will offer feedback. Good luck!
the tighest drummer I know, absolutely on the grid
He IS the grid
Gavin Harrison always with the best exercices! Thanks for sharing that!
best drum tone of all time. I can pick his drum tone out of any album he's ever been on, even when I don't know it's him.
f yeah. thinking the same for years.

Hoxton haha thanks... And I've gotta say the songs are just amazing!!

All their songs are dope even if they aren't ones that are in odd times. They're a great band.
Miles LeBlanc I agree, same with Steven's solo work and Blackfield
Smart, logical and professional advice. Thanks!
Gavin is the man! Thanks for having him on all the time these are gold
Gavin is in my opinion the best drummer ever.So musical in his playing.
This is the most beautiful kit Gavin ever played! :D
Gavin’s ingredients really make for a nice recipe for interesting and creative music which is the holy grail.

Gavin played drums 10 years before he was born 😎😉

Simply Awesome
Its amazing to have such a great drummer like Gavin, in Drumeo.... Thanks to both
He's as great as he is humble.
This nasty... I have been playing for over twenty years and never tried something like this. Big thumbs up.
Nice one. I'll definitely give it a try!
gavin is the best ! I did a drummer analysis video of him and his band porcupine tree!
Now I'm going to take this idea and run the exercises on Syncopation pg 33 (as 16ths instead of 8ths, of course)
Nice sharing! Thank you!

Blimey. A real mindbender.

What’s the music at the end ?
Is that bell tree custom made? If not, where can I get one?
Yeah, Gavin just grinds down cracked cymbals to make those.
What exactly is the point of this exercise?
THIS IS AMAZING!!! ALSO CAN SOMEONE PLSSS TELL ME THE NAME OF THE OUTRO SONG???

How about a Matt Halpern lesson, maybe...?
Need to try to get Chris Coleman that would be awesome
bro I am a new drummer and I jst Can't manage to play the bass with the snar or the hat.I miss on the beat. Wht do i do? will be waiting #DRUMEO
Was able to do this in 20 seconds. Are there any more advanced things I can do to this beyond simple rudiments
Rahil Anees do groupings of 3, 5, or 7. For example play RllRll over the groove, or RlRll, RlRlRll, etc.
Use patterns from Stick Controll
Maybe audition for PT?
Really? You could play those three patterns solidy instantly and yet you need to ASK for more advanced patterns? You couldn't think of ways yourself?

I often forget about accidental bass/hat flamming
screw the exercise those toms and bass drum sound fantastic!!

Gordon Ramsey on the kit
