Have this dude eat those same meals after a hard day of hiking, and they will suddenly taste amazing.
So true
@@circuitd942 I see lots of people dehydrating their own meals now, definitely an option worth looking into!
No kidding… that isn’t the point of the video though and I’m positive you know that. People need to stop trying to “subtly” insert that they hike as if we are going to be impressed.
How about doing a video where you freeze dry this chef’s cooking and then taste test it?
The eggs look like freeze dry dehydrate?
U mad bro
Next on Cnet an F1 driver complains about the performance of minivans.
Pro tip - those eggs need double the hydration time and a bit more water than the instructions suggest - only then are they edible.
Why don't you get this chef to make something that will remain shelf stable, portable and edible for the duration of a week long or more hiking trip that will be up to his taste standards, and also fit the caloric and macronutrient requirements for someone who's been hiking more long distances while carrying loads each day?
he would kill himself
Because there is no point in doing that
When it comes to freeze dried foods being too salty, they are designed to feed people who are up in higher elevations hiking in the mountains. Everyone knows that you need more rehydration time and more salt as you go up in elevation. This is why airline food would taste even more disgusting if you ate it while In the airport instead of up in the air. Our taste buds are not the same the higher we go up in elevation. Also the extra salt will help replenish some of the salt that was lost through physical activity during the hike.
Salt dehydrates you though
@@BobMarley-zu5sc We need salt especially if we are exerting ourselves in physical activity and sweating. That's the reason why people drink Gatorade, Einstein.
beats eating bugs or people
Loved this video 😁 more please! The Chef's reactions are so funny
Evidently the chef has never been in the military or camped alone for a week or two. He apparently does not get the rational of survival food. It actually is excellent, especially Mountain House food.
Bro why is he comparing this food to his $200 meals. This is for the zombie apocalypse
"hide my feelings" is like saying...bluhhhh :D
Love!
“It’s dry.”
More videos like this for sure
Hahah trust it tastes much better in the bush when you have been out for 30+ day canoe trip 😅
He was so polite even though he probably wanted to rip it apart haha
I would be curious how he would feel about these after hiking to the top of a mountain or something or the sort. Literally just curious how physical experience and exhaustion impacts the willingness and the experience.
Don’t know. Just curious.
having had camp food both at home and when working a week and camping out at the job. i was definitely not as picky with the food. but the stuff i had still tasted bad.
so i would say the foods no better you just don't give a hoot as long as its worm and fills you up.
you are right though food out of the setting its intended for it a good point. not one i had given any thought to my self to reading your comment.
“It’s an interesting day today” 😂
Great review recommend getting a dehydrator and prepping your own meals for all who's interested in packing for extensive hikes. Tastes amazing without all the preservatives
Fantastic 😆
Funny he's a pro chef in a giant kitchen...he could pour out each of these into a pan & make them super tasty in a few seconds with some little tricks
Idk why Cnet is uploading this but whatever
To quote Miguel de Cervantes: "Hunger makes the best sauce in the world."
Hike / Backpack 6 - 14+ hours a day, for days or weeks on end, carrying 30 - 60+ pounds on rocky dirt trails, over hills and mountains, AND THEN try these meals again.
That's what I'm saying, NO OFFENSE but I think that people form the UK or other European countries haven't been backpacking for that long, for example the Appalachian trail is three and a half times the size of uk and the E11 in Europe is 2900 miles or 4700 km long while covering various counties. Here you make the American Discovery trail which is 6,800 miles or 10,944 km. So I really think that the reason they don't like or criticize this food it's because they hadn't had the need to eat this food.
always let them rehydrate for a lot longer than they say and use piping hot water. i sometimes leave it for 30+ minutes and just sit and glass or do something else. Do not let the heat escape thats how i get the beef and chicken bits to soften up.
Why mountain house? It looks like you guys just picked whatever was at Wal-Mart. There are tons of better products out there if you just looked a little harder.
That’s the point. They review what most people buy.
It’s because that My step dad aka the chef is not picking. They are the people in the camera I think I don’t know but my step dad told me that he did not choose the people did so yea.
you know the chef?@@ericksthemeparktycoon5216
He he he that’s my step dad but lol
So, he's trying food meant for backpackers and survivalist!
Chef, it is survival food. If you are in emergency situation and haven’t eaten for 3 days you would love it. It will be tasty and save your life.
Mountin House meals are pretty good but I've never had this meal. Wait till the lights go out and Whole Foods is empty, this fancy lad will do anything for one of these meals.
I’m sure he is a superb chef, hence his attitude.
you have got to have that water at a rolling boil and In my experience use a bit less water and leave it sit a bit longer than the directions recommend.
If you're starving, it will all taste good.
If you were held in a foreign prison these meals would get a Michelin Star rating.
Tabasco. Everything always tastes better with Tabasco sauce. Lol
you know the funny thing with rations? they taste horrid at home but when your out in the field they taste great...kinda weird
Make him eat last after a major incident. This is not a 5 Star restaurant.
Fancy lad
I hate 90% of dehydrated food. Impossible to eat
After 10 meals in a row, all of these get old
Just finished backpacking for the first time. I swear this is the only honest video . Man me and my grown son were dying. These meals tasted like trash and I brought hot sauce and salt. Next time I’m living on oatmeal packets, tuna fish and protein bars
Nasty and expensive.. those meals are like $20 after tax here in California.. better off buying your own dehydrator
Or just cooking your own food outdoors
@@nwbasson not possible when backpacking haha, these meals are pretty much just for survival
@@ufinityy of course its possible it just takes a little more work
@@nwbasson not if you go backpacking for a week, normal food cannot last that long and it isnt practical to carry around methods of refrigeration. not to mention these meals are so much lighter
Bwahaha
I have a food allergy, easy to pack, carry, edible, will not put me in hospital, do not have to deal with ignorant waitstaff, can take on a plane...with overnight layovers and cancellations this may be a good back up food for travelling.
Fettuccine are not NOODLES
My conclusion is the chef is a snob. Of course he is a chef after all.
Will there be food snobs during a zombie apocalypse? Hmmm....
Id rather deal with a Food snob than a vegan.
We get it. Some of you hike. No one is impressed. You all completely understand the idea behind the video and the general comedic angle that was taken in making it. Just stop.
FOOD SHORTAGE?
yeah if you believe FOX "news"
If I ever went camping I think I’d rather buy a military MRE than buying one of these lol
I don't get the point of this video.
This is the wrong person to test dehydrated food. He woud probably say the same negatives about canned foods.
An appropriate tester would be someone that needs to use dehydrated meals.
Overpriced, way too much sodium and subpar taste. But you can be lazy? 🤷♂️
Oh my god these look disgusting. Why is there a market for bullocks in US?
These are meals for backpackers not everyday use. Their purpose is to be somewhat palatable, nutritionally dense, easy and light to carry and require minimal preparation.
@@01fxstsi you just described crackers aka hardtack
@@MohammedKhaled-ju7gy except backpackers actually like it.
LAME! Read the commits below this video, and I'm willing to bet my life that 95 percent of the commits are from those who couldn't find yourselves around a kitchen if your lives depended on it. This is coming from someone who actually cooks my meals and from my experience as a chef. This guy Is hitting the mark on most of these pre packed food meals. The folks making these meals are only giving you calories to burn not real "FOOD" all the while laughing all the way to the bank at you all. Take the time to invest in prepping your meals yourself its not rocket science kiddos, show yourself some love. Those who are pro pre packed meals could do land slides better and just grab a fistful of earth at the top of your mountain peak, hill, or the middle of nowhere and mix a little hot water. Bon Appetit!
They are calorie and sodium stacked because when you are hiking for days you need better hydration and also energy to burn
Hes not even hydrating them correctly and didnt seem like he followed any instructions its crap 😂
Ah.....an elitist with no concept of reality.
