I've literally had employers passing me up for instructional design roles due to not having experience with Articulate Storyline. Thank you so much for creating this workshop! It is truly PPT with the ability to create non-linear learning experiences and uses a few other cool features. Like you say multiple times in your workshop, if you know how to use PPT, it's very easy to learn Storyline.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad the video was helpful. And yes, while some in our industry will try and claim that learning how to use an eLearning authoring tool, like Storyline, isn’t necessary to be successful in this industry…there’s no denying the fact that you see it listed on almost every ID job description.
I'm a member of Tim's eLearning Designer's Community, and I'm always impressed and thankful for how much great content Tim provides for free. Thank you, Tim!
From one educator to another. This was one of the most informative and functional how to videos I have seen. You covered the essentials. I did not know a thing about Storyline. After watching your video I have learnt what I need, in order to carry out what I need to do in just over an hour. Thank you Tim. Appreciate you brother.

Hi @elearningacdmy; thanks for this great video on basic storyline functionality -- super helpful refresher! Question: is there ever a scenario in which building a button from scratch is better than using a built-in button? I've heard from other designers that using built-in features (buttons, states, etc.) can often result in issues with functionality, especially when the course gets larger. Thoughts?
Nope. The only exception would be from a visual design standpoint. I’ve worked on courses with 1000+ slides and have always used the built-in buttons and states…and this has never been an issue. I’ve heard this brought up before and I’ve never had anyone explain what exact “issues” might pop up from using the native buttons and states…so if you have more specifics, please feel free to share.

Hello, does storyline have something similar to Explain everything that you have a recording button or a pencil to draw with? Hi Tim, is there a way for multiple instructional designers to work on one course in parallel? It seems that this is not possible in Articulate, other than by sending the entire course file back and forth. Thanks in advance for your response.
@ingacdmy thanks, that makes Rise the better option for larger projects with multiple authors & collaborators. Luckily, Storyline elements can be integrated into Rise.
I love your videos, I am in my career transition to ID and you have been my mentor. I am just wondering how did you do the waves for the template? in Power Point or AI? thank you

Amazing video! Thank you so much! Just wondering how can I avoid my background images to become pixelated when I place them in Articulate? I'm using slide size 16:9 and I'm exporting my designs from Illustrator as PNG in the same size.
I would encourage you to increase the size of the images inside Illustrator first...and then export them with a high-resolution setting. Let me know if that doesn't make sense and I can share a video to show you how I do it.
Hi Tim, brand new to Articulate and so far loving your videos here. At 11:36 when you open up your slide, its in more of a PowerPoint size screen to work in. When I open mine up, its an almost perfect square. How do I resize my slide??
Glad you’re enjoying the videos! You can change the slide size just like you would in PowerPoint. Go to the Design tab, then click the option for Slide Size. The default is 4:3, which is what you’re seeing. I tend to always go with 16:9. Hope that helps!
Can all the different browsers display the Storyline animations? Since PowerPoint is so similar to Storyline, then why not learn and use PowerPoint instead?
Great question! When you publish a course from Articulate Storyline, it all gets converted into HTML5 content...so if you're using any modern browser (not like and old version of Microsoft Explorer), the animations will be just fine! :)
I use WordPress based LMS like LearnDash to deliver the content that I often create with Camtasia. Now, while I think of switching to Storyline, I have some concerns... How to sell the course with WordPress and Woocommerce? How to track the student progress? The reason why I wish to bring in Storyline in my workflow is for the interactivity it brings to the content. That's something I am missing in Camtasia or at least I don't know how to do it in Camtasia. So, if you please share your thoughts on this, that will be quite helpful for me to plan my switching.
I want to create a trigger on my slide so that my first layer animates to the right and simultaneosuly second layer floats in from from top when the use presses the next button on first layer. Will someone please help
