And then you hear the rolling thunder - but the sky is clear, oh no it's the Fighters Jets doing another close proximity flight along Llyn Ogwen and then a very tight right turn and very low along the Ogwen Valley.....hehehee - but truly one of the most breath takingly beautiful places on Earth.
It’s a great walk for the winter. It’s a low level route so it’s unlikely to get lots of snow, it’s easy to follow and easy to retreat from. It will also be sheltered from some of the winds. I often go up there when the weather is too bad for the higher walks
Ogwen cottage is where you need to go for this walk, it's right on the A5 but use a car bay as the council have been cracking down on parking in the area. There are some links in the video description to the route.
The whole route from the road, around the lake, and back to the road is 4km. There is parking at the start but space can be limited. If you can't park by Ogwen cottage there are a few parking areas within a 20 - 30 min walk along the road.
No, It’s not advisable to have them for lots of reasons. Wildfires being the most obvious, but also wood is scarce in places. Deadwood on the ground can be an important habitat for species and can deadwood in trees. Cutting down trees is also illegal and freshly cut wood does not burn well.
Such a beautiful place
Very informative thank you
Fantastic Video, I really enjoyed it. Llyn Idwal is one of my favourite walks in Snowdonia. The rugged beauty always inspires.
I love going up there, its easy to get to but you feel like you've achieved something. Like you say the rugged beauty of the place is inspiring.😍
My favourite place on earth :)

Going to snowdonia for the first time next weekend, where do you head in the car to start this hike?

How long is the walk from the nearest carpark to the water?
