  • Scientific advances in recent times have increased our understanding of the biological basis of autism; however, none of these discoveries have yet materialized into new treatments. Dr. Veenstra-VanderWeele, a child and adolescent psychiatrist and researcher at Columbia University, focuses on developing and evaluating new treatment approaches through clinical trials in his clinical and translational research. During his Synchrony 2023 presentation, he explores the possibilities and obstacles associated with new treatment avenues. He outlines the strengths and weaknesses of the current models and the uncertainties regarding target populations and assessments of clinical outcomes.
