I live in the town of Coupeville on Whidbey Island, and every year for the month of October, we celebrate the filming of this magical movie here with lots of events and activities. All are welcome to join us in the fun and festivities.
That’s amazing! Thanks for sharing, I moved to Washington a couple of years ago and have visited Whidbey Island but had no idea about the festivities held there relating to this movie
Thanks for sharing. This is the best news that I have read in years! I have been to Coupville once on a visit from Virginia to Whidbey. I didn't know until years later that was where one of my favorite movies was filmed.
I was working on the Warner Hollywood movie lot and got to do extensive walkthrough in the house set. It was terrific. The garden potting room was especially detailed. I walked around the interiors with my hands carefully clasped behind my back. It was SO REAL inside.
There are a handful of houses I've always dreamed of living in. This is Number 1! Also the house from Casper, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and the Halliwell manor from Charmed!
This film has always felt like home to me. The house is my dream home. I lived on Whidbey Island and never realized the home was built and disassembled there. Your video was informative. Thank you so much!
I loved that house and still do. I remember when this movie came out. I also remember finding out that this gorgeous magical home didn't really exist. My mom and I had planned on taking a vacation to go see it.
Thank you for this fascinating video. Love this movie especially because of the house and all of the exquisite decor. It’s definitely my dream house! ❤
In November of 1998, for my 18th birthday, a few friends and I went to a local movie theater to watch this movie. I had previously read Hoffman’s book numerous times, and the movie adaptation quickly captured my heart as well. Although, it’s worth noting that there are quite a few differences between the two. Now I’m nearing 44 and have been able to share the ‘Practical Magic’ nostalgia with my own daughters, who very much remind me of younger Sally and Gillian Owens. ✨
That house was so charismatic and beautiful I researched it right away back in the day. The property was perfect too. Everything about it was just romantic and so perfect. ❤
If you want to see another incredible Victorian home as set for a film, I most highly recommend "Crimes of the Heart", made in 1986 and set in the South. The story is wonderful, and the house is a big part of it's charm.
@@tomasrosaless Mistress of Spices is another one of these cosy films with a great set. The spice shop has a really good magical vibe. Also the town in Chocolat and the chocolate shop.
I loved this movie growing up - particularly for the house, and setting. I did end up in a real version of this house, but in France. I didn't realise the connection until watching this video, that I had unconsciously sought this out ~ it is magical living here.
Some wonderful colour work is in the set design of "Quartet", an English movie about an old country house as a residence for retired musicians and singers. Lovely casual touches of orange, and teal green in coffee cups etc, in an autumn palette. Very subtly done.
I hope no one kills me, but I have never seen the movie! Now I think I should and from the looks of it and the cast, I think I will enjoy it. Perhaps you know this but when you mentioned the dishes displayed above the kitchen sink I saw what you were speaking of. This is actually an old fashioned way of drip-drying your dishes. You wash them below and simply place them in the slotted holder to drip water back into the sink below leaving you with lots more counter space. I like the theme of your channel and liked, subscribed and am looking forward to more!
Thank you so much!! You should definitely watch it!! Sooo good. About the drying rack, I totally noticed afterwards and was even more impressed hahaha!
i was so heartbroken when i learned the house wasnt real & the set had been torn down. do you know if anyone has tried to do a build with the plans you showed here? i would love to see it if so. super excited to see part 2 as well. lovvvvved this movie. thank you for covering this story
Was that the charmed attic? Lol This movie was one of the reasons as to why I love Victorian homes. That home even though it wasn’t real was absolutely beautiful.
I never seen the movie but heard so much of it recently. I had to wait for 5 minutes to see some of the interiors! 😭 I would have loved to see a little selection of the interiors in the beginning of the video. I like the series. I loved the interiors in Bright Star, Confessions or Only lovers left alive.
Miyazaki’s films do houses very well - I’d be glad to see your take on the homes in Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Spirited Away, for example.
What about the house in: The Witches of East end"!? That kitchen 😍 B.t.w. a series that should have never been discontinued. I will never understand why so many rubbish series keep being filmed, when TWOEA and so many others are discontinued. I hope that the sequel to Practical Magic does the first movie pride. No one needs another bad sequel like e.g. The Craft and Hocus Pocus.
Victorian and Gothic Revival can be very similar! I think the key differences are in the ornate detailing and molding mainly! But at the end of the day they might have gotten inspiration from many architectural styles! That’s the beauty of filmmaking!
Where I grew up, there were more Victorian houses per square mile than in any other USA location. This is sheer Victoriana. The "Gingerbread" work is a classic giveaway. Stone Victorian houses are far different, and you may be thinking of those as being "Gothic."
Interesting...I have not seen the movie, but I love Victorian houses, and have lived in a few different ones in my life, and would love to have one of my own. That kitchen is unreal beautiful! I have never seen a real kitchen that over the top perfect in my life. Love it.
The house was facade, the garden was fake plants. The interiors was just sets. It was a lovely house, and there are real Second Empire style houses out here.

I lived in Port Angeles.
We love Coupeville. We usually stay at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.
Oh gosh, I am right near you on the mainland. I never heard of this event and am looking into it now! Ty. Take care!
So happy they're making Practical Magic 2, Sandra and Nicole have confirmed to reprise their roles ✨
I can’t wait!!!
Really?wowo

This is my favorite house. Was soo sad when i read that it wasn't real. Loved this movie

Thank you so much!! And that’s a GREAT idea!…
@@tomasrosalessYes! The new Beetlejuice movie is coming out Sept 6th 🙌
The American Horror Story House! ❤
I love that movie so much and the house was a big part of that.

It's been a life long dream of mine to have a house very much like the practical magic house!❤❤❤
A true dream house!!
@@tomasrosaless exactly right!💘
William Poole, an architect from which you can purchase house plans, designed a set of house plans for this house.
This is so cool!! The more you know!
Hey! Where can I find this?
I loved that house and still do. I remember when this movie came out. I also remember finding out that this gorgeous magical home didn't really exist. My mom and I had planned on taking a vacation to go see it.
Oh no! That’s a wonderful story tho! How we all wish we could visit! 🙌♥️

Thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Love the way you share the story! Makes you feel a part of its history on the house.
I’m so happy to hear this! It’s exactly what I was trying to achieve! Thank you 😁
What an incredible story! Please keep up this movie interior series! I love it!
Thank you so much!!! Glad you enjoyed! Will do!
I will build that house one of these days. I fell in love with it years ago and it is still so beautiful.
Yes!!!
This was SO well done. I hope you do other interiors especially old movie interiors.
Thank you so much!! Will do! I have one for “You’ve Got Mail” and today’s video for “It’s Complicated”. Check them out if you haven’t yet!!

Just discovered your channel and enjoyed this. How about The Holiday, 2006, charming English cottage, the facade was constructed just for the movie.
Welcome to the channel! The Holiday is my all time favorite film, so a video on it's interiors is surely to come!
The greenhouse is my favourite 😍

Pretty sure the Crimes of the Heart house was a real house.
The Northrup House was built in 1910. Really nice!

Where does one find the house plans I wonder?
There’s still a few sketches and renderings online! But definitely harder to find for proper construction
That really is my dream house. I was so sad when I found out it wasn’t real. They did such an amazing job creating the perfect witch house.
