I'm quite late to the dance, but I finally bought a 2020 Special a little over a year ago after the initial run sold out very quickly and it was on terminal backorder everywhere for some time! A close friend of mine put his up for sale and I quickly snatched it up; he modded it almost completely and as close to 1955 Gibson specs as possible...even down to replicas of the original truss rod cover and jack plate from that era! The only things he didn't change are the GraphTech nut and the pickguard. Even fully stock, this guitar is killer, too good for the now $449 price tag! Modded as it is now, I will gladly put mine up alongside a new Gibson Special costing $1599 and not only still come out below the cost of it, but blow it out of the water! The only difference between the Epiphone and Gibson is that Epiphone didn't use an angled tailpiece like the vintage and current Gibson models. This is a great review of a great guitar, thank you for sharing yours with us! 🎸😊👊🔥
This video made me want one so even worse than before, they weren't in stock before when you did this video but now they are and I just had to order one when I seen it for $ 338 I had just had to buy ! Thanks again for helping me decide.
Mine finally showed up today and I can't say enough good about it. It is a complete steal at that price point. Setup was almost dead on out of the box, frets are perfect, sounds and plays amazing. Restrung it and cleaned up the fretboard but damn. I'm genuinely impressed.
I'm picking mine up tomorrow. I already bought the Coronet and was really impressed. I own all high end guitars and just don't want to gig with them anymore with the way this grab and run BS is happening. Epiphone did a super job on the reissue Coronet so these two will be my players for gigs now, great review bro Los Angeles
Hell yeah, thanks for the review I recently picked when are these up for $150 used to guitar center, I think that they mispriced it but I sure as hell wasn't going to tell them that😂
The pickups sound great on it. I like the bound neck and the hardware. If I get my stimulus check I will get one for sure, and put strings I like on, polish up frets, etc. I'm pretty impressed with this one, as the Epiphones I've seen in the last 20 years didn't do anything for me. Back in the early 1970s I had an Epiphone Riviera, that I bought used in a shop hanging on the wall next to a bunch of 335s, which were twice the price. It was a blue label, and one of the best guitars I ever had. So, it looks like they upped their game this year for sure. Never wanted a les Paultill I saw these new old style ones with the Kalmazoo headstocks. That's the Epiphone I remember. Thanks, good review.
Still have that Riviera? Yeah I like what Epiphone is doing. They also upgraded the pots to CTS pots so the electronics are great as well. Before I used to feel that Epiphone made a good guitar with bad components. now I think they are just Making great guitars.
No dude, it was stolen in Tucson in 81 I think. An old guitar player buddy of mine visited me in Tucson, he was on his way to LA, and told me he was friends with a luthier who could"really dial it in professionally ". Me, a stupid 20-something at the time, said cool, since I had family in SoCal and would be there in a few months. Anyway, I didn't see him until 1992, he said it was stolen from his car, and in re-pay back or something, he gave a blonde Gibson 335, and told me not to ever play it in Hollywood area, cuz it was hot! Well, I ended up hocking it at a pawn shop because I needed money to feed my heroin addiction. Sorry I got off track with all that. I never saw that Riviera again, kicked heroin in 1996, and became friends with the guy who stole it. I've known him since 1967. Yes I am an old guy playing since the hippy era!
Great video BB. I have to admit, that guitar is very intriguing. I already told myself, "No more Guitars". I don't know but I love the way these guitars sound. Oh, caught the replay on LIve Wires. You were great. By the way, my company makes those Starbucks coffee cups.
I keep telling myself that... but its not working :) Great pickups, upgraded wiring and pots.. sounds just as good as the Gibson Special I played in January. Super happy I took the plunge with it. Live Wires was a lot of fun. I hope some day I can do it again :)
Hey cool review. I was going to buy this guitar between this and the Epi Les Paul, Jr. Do you still have this guitar? Would you recommend it? I bought a Reverend Sensei Jr. Guitar with a P90 in it, and this thing Snarls. Thank you for posting this.
I don't have a Gibson with P90s my Gibson's all have humbuckers. However I did play a Gibson LP special about a month ago at Guitar center. Sounded very similar to these. When I ordered this one I was worried I'd be disappointed when compared to the Gibson. But I'm not. 😃
Mine arrives tomorrow. Hoping it’s as good as all the reviews I’ve seen/heard. Don’t usually buy guitars I haven’t tried, but no one has them locally and COVID means no travel allowed. Never owned a P90 equipped guitar. So excited to peel that plastic off!
Yeah, Its my first TV Yellow. I'm not a bog fan of yellow for the most part but its classic so I had to have one :) I was Gassing on these as soon as I saw them at winter namm
Enjoyed the review. Did the stain go away when you changed the strings? I have a 2012 Gibson les paul jr from back when Gibson was having "issues" with their imported wood and so they experimented with obeche wood for the fretboards. Apparently it is naturally lighter in color than rosewood so they used some type of stain on it and it makes my fingers dark even today. I was thinking since the fretborad on the Epiphone is indian laural maybe it is a similar situation.
After swapping strings and giving the neck a good wipe down I am no longer having an issue. Could be I am getting lucky cause my hands to really sweat much? Thanks for watching!
Hello man thanks for the review. Have you already tested an Edwards E-LS ? Was thinking about this one to buy but need some comparaisons to that new epiphone model. Thanks :)
I love the neck profile, fat 50's style. Very much like my Wildkat. Weight is good not super light but lighter than the average Les Paul. I'd say probably about 8lbs. That backorder weight was the worst LoL
Im trying to convince my dad to get the sg special with p90s DAMN they look phenomenal and want spectacular. That one and this LP Special make it seem almost pointless to get a Gibson one hahahah
Well you can certainly get a rock sound out of P90's but if I had to choose one guitar for those two Genre's Id get the Classic Lite with 57's. I have 57's in another guitar and they are great. They will do blues really good, they will also take the high gain stuff well. High gain on these P90's you will end up getting a lot of that 60 cycle hum
Thanks for watching it! From the moment I saw this guitar I knew I wanted one, I must not have been the only one! It was worth the wait I will say that! :)

Oh yeah!! the satisfying peeling of the plastic 👍😁
The new Epi's do look and sound great. Congratulations on the new beast 🤘

Great review. Glad to see yours was good to go right out of the box. My Epiphone is having fret issues fixed now
I've seen a few reviews complaining of QC issues. This one is great. Sorry to hear about yours though
BeardedBlues Dude it’s gonna be a great guitar once it’s fixed. Check out my review
@@PaulLue I will! :)
Awesome! I saw Ed Dana just buy one too! Wicked nice! Subscribed!
Thanks man! I just checked out your JHS vid. :)
Cool instrument!
It's really comparable to the Gibson Special with lot lower price. yes I bought one today. Great video.
Thats what I thought. The pickups sound great!
I want an Epiphone Les Paul special and a Gibson Les Paul Jr. Is it weird that I prefer the Epiphone special over the Gibson?
I don't think thats odd at all. This little Epiphopne plays and sounds great. I still pick it up regularly in along with my Gibson LP.

I stopped telling myself this years ago. Lying to myself was bad but then I got married.....!
Gorgeous guitar, good quality for reasonable price.
Yeah and it's fun that's for sure!

@@BeardedBluesDude how do the high frets play ? Any fretting out on high bends on higher notes down by the body ?
@@AuntAlnico4 I have not had any bends fret out yet. I've played it for several hours at this point and so far it's been good!
@@BeardedBluesDude I just ordered one now since they are in stock and there was a blemish model for$338 so I got one coming ! Should be here Friday !
Enjoy your new Epiphone! Thanks for the post! 🤘🤘
You bet. Thanks for watching and your part in bringing me this beautiful new guitar 😎🎸
I just got the white Gibson version, this guitar growls. I love it!

cool review dude. beautiful guitare.
Thanks! I am digging it so far!
I love it!
Sounds wonderful!
@@JaniceLalla plays good sounds good looks good... Its a Winner! :)
Sounds and looks pretty good! Not a fan of the color but, I’m GASing after one of these. Congrats on the nice score!

I remove the plastic too. Fenders are a bitch because the plastic is under the screws and knobs. You got the set neck one!
The headstock for me. That and the upgraded pots. Also I love bound necks!!

He should have whispered ‘come to daddy’ whilst peeling off plastic 😂😂🇬🇧🇬🇧

No have not. But what I can tell you is that after a few weeks, I am still reaching for this guitar. I play it just as much as my Gibson.
I think I need to get of these too!!
You should they are awesome! Price is right!
The logo is plastic, or pearloid if you prefer and not abalone.
Gregg! don't do it man, leave the plastic on lol. Xheers buddy N' kool guitar! Likd 2
Hahaha I have to. It's so satisfying!
Any issues with the P-90's humming or feeding back?
I'm jealous! Mine's still on backorder for early April... can't wait! How do you feel about the neck profile? And also how's the weight? Thanks!

Subbed. Very nice. I just got the Epi SG Muse and setup was perfect..no issues other than black fingertips after playing. So its not just yours lol.
Thanks for the Sub! I wiped it down several times and now that I have played it a ton its pretty clean I think!
How's the neck profile?
Its definitely a 50's style chunky neck. Which I love. If you are looking for a thinner neck this is not the guitar for you. :)
@@BeardedBluesDude Oh I love 50s necks! That sounds ideal. Thanks for feeding my GAS haha!
I came in the first minute
Can't decide between this and the classic lite with 57s. I enjoy motley crue era music and blues.

That bit of plastic coming off the scratch plate is guitar porn.
Sorry but comparing to SO MANY other les pauls..no way!
I really enjoyed your review, Im very excited about this guitar. I can't wait until they are in stock again. This guitar has instant mojo.
