- Hey guys in this video we check out the Epiphone Les Paul Special in TV Yellow, with P90 pickups. I really enjoyed this guitar, it was easy to play, sounded great and looked great! I am a sucker for P90's though, and I think that having those pickups in this guitar gives it more character. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks for covering clean tones! So many reviews don't. I realize that this probably isn't the gtr you're buying to dial in sweet jazz tones, but I find clean tone really helps to evaluate an instrument.

I agree with you about P90's they are sweet ! That Epiphone looks pretty good.
Epiphone is the real deal. I have an Epiphone LP special 2 that I swapped the ceramic pickups with the Alnico ones they put in higher end instruments and it smokes. All told for like 100 bucks on craigslist and an extra 35 bucks for Epiphone alnico pickups and it seriously sounds better than my Gibson.
Got mine a month ago. It’s WAY better than a $400 guitar should be. I’d say it’s closer to a $600-$850 guitar in price. It looks great and sings. What else could you ask for?
Once I stand on my feet financially I would get one of this and a Guitar amp! 👌

Your reviews are very trust worthy. And even though you didn't say much in the way of an opinion, good or no, you didn't say that it sucked. And it sounded damn good!

Love mine just received 2/9 . Test it out of the box . Pull those nasty strings off , clean & oil fret board . Adjust truss , bridge , pickups . BANG !
As much as I love the glassy sparkle and spank of Fender pickups, there's just something magical about the growl of a P90 that makes them alluring.

i wanted the epiphone goldtop 50’s standard because i love the look but for whatever reason this one felt better and more inspiring to play.
I have my first P90 guitar on the way, not Epiphone but Harley Benton....and not their Les Paul Special type either (which seems very nice), but their PRS style with P90 PUs (called the CST 24T P90), with a nice Wilkinson trem bridge. Excited to see how they compare with my other Harleys (this will become my 5th). Thanks for a great review and playing Rich!

Great playing and sounds from the Epiphone LP Special, and little post script for the volume knob. I've tried for years to master the technique but finally got a volume pedal. It's a little distracting but I'm getting the hang of it.
I am going to buy one to play my favorites slash, steve clark, tom keifer, and jimmy page tunes...

Better than the Gibson in several ways. What a shame, but a plus for players who care about feel and sound more than brand names. I have 2 of these and one Gibson and I pick up one of the Epis every time before bothering with the over-Pleked Gibson!

Must admit that epi sounds pretty epic. When you get them for review from the shop have they been setup to dome degree or do you do it yourself..... or do you just play it as it comes? My experience when going to a shop is usually quite bad as the guitars , even the high end ones play badly because they go right from the case to the rack and nothing (not even a tune) has been done. Because of this I usually head right to the second hand section where most are pretty good. Thanks for the review and tasteful playing.

Here’s a scenario for you, Rich. If it was a standoff between this particular Epiphone and the Fender Modern Player Thinline Tele, which one would you choose?
Tele, because I'm more of a fender guy. That being said. These guitars are getting so good that both are just great quality guitars.

The cutaway seems to be a Florentine style rather than a typical Venetian cutaway on most LPs

Sounds great, but I suspect you could make most guitars sound great with your playing. I’d love one of these but nobody in Europe seems to have stock!

Neck is fatter on this one, but they both played well, and build quality is great on both.
I got tribute lp 2017 not my fav. Loving all Epiphones I’ve tried basically

I tried muse at store for being polar yes brighter but it still held quality, my friend and I liked it. Saw Gibson 50 tv special. Sonically seem the same to Epiphones. On the fence about to scoop one of these up. Throw a super distortion p90 innit

Your reviews are excellent! Could you help me to decide between epi tv special and epi 50's gold top? I'm a bass player and I want one for recording purposes. I have already a strat hss, Thanks. Unfortunately there isn't a store here to try them.
Thats a hard one. The tv yellow has the p90 pickups, but I seem to remember the goldtop felt beter/played better in my hands. But both great guitars.

Rich I’m constantly staggered by your playing and the sound quality. Great work as always. You seem to have found the inspiration from this guitar that I haven’t been able to. I have one. It’s super well made. Sounds great. But it’s just not working for me 🤷♂️

Not better, just different. The LP special is probably a more well-rounded guitar. By that I mean gig friendly, etc.
