My wife and visited this place years ago and enjoyed the house. We made it about half way through the buildings before we could not take it anymore. We talked one of the employees into letting us escape out of an emergency exit. If you enjoy lots of noise and old crap then you will love this place.
I’ve been here once, it’s very fascinating and overwhelming. I do not recommend going there if you have a headache, because you will most definitely end up making it much worse. It sort of feels like walking through a hoarder’s house except that instead of garbage and old clothes there’s a billion different collectibles and creepy automaton orchestras, and it goes on forever. I also don’t recommend bringing kids under the age of 10. It’s just too much sensory stimulation all around. I’m still glad I was able to see it though, it’s so surreal.
This entire place is like a weird dream
The TNT Mancave Very true.
Best description of this place.
I actually had a dream of a place very similar to this
The TNT Mancave no kidding
I went here and I found like 10 places I remember in my dreams
I went there, and it gave me a full 4 hours of endless entertainment. I was quite impressed.
Everytime I watch a Carpetbagger video, I have to add a new place to my "Places to visit before I die" list.
I come here every summer! Its a great place, its like you find something new every time!
I like how Carpetbagger sits on (almost) all the couches everywhere he goes. That is sooo me. Whether I'm tired or not, it's all "Ooo couch!" And down goes my fat ass 😂😂😂
This is very endearing haha. I love humans
My grandfather had that statue of the man holding the pig! It's actually a coin bank. You'd lay a coin on the pig's snout and flip a lever; the pig would kick the coin as the guy opened his mouth and stuck his tongue out to catch and "swallow" it. I remembered his eyes would look around too. Very bizarre; I was fascinated by it when I was little.
I have been there multiple times through the years. Defiantly one of my favorite places to go. Some people either love it or hate it. There so much to see so if you go there be prepared. When your done you feel like you came out from a different dimension.
The series you did on this was amazing! I have never seen anything like this. You do a great service to folks like me that will probably never see most of these places in person. Thank you so much!
The place is bizarre. I've been there, and if you're tall the place has a creepy, claustrophobic vibe.
You mean like a "cooped up" feeling? Sorry, I couldn't resist.
I went here a couple of weeks ago and had an absolute blast. One of the most unique places I've ever visited! Definitely worth the trip.
Visited this awesome house as a freshman in high school back in 1969. I've seen lots of fantastic places and sites but this has always been my favorite. Thank you so much for posting this great video. I love it.
I think that is one cool place. I find places that I never knew existed by watching the Carpetbagger.
I went there in 1998. Still have bizarre dreams about it. Its so cool. A strange fever dream is the best way to describe it to people who have never been.
Did Wright ever see the house and be like "sorry dude I was wrong?"
Was he?
nise 52 I think Wright was correct. I’ve toured quite a few FLW properties and only one for Mr Adams?
Why would he do that? LOL
This continues to be my favorite channel on UA-cam. Thanks so much for taking us on your adventures! You are very underrated and deserve so much success to your channel! Been rooting for you from my screen in Ohio for a few years now. Keep up the good work!
This house is so incredibly awesome!
House on the rock was just fantastic.
My husband and I love this place. Thank you Jacob for Vlogging about it. Because of you we get to relive the memories.
We used to go to The House on the Rock often when I was younger. I always wanted a house like that and, honestly, would still love to have something similar. It was a definitely an experience. I haven't been back in almost 20 years now.
Yes! Very excited to see this. Haven't been there in 25+ years. I love all the self-playing musical displays. Can't wait to see part 2. Thanks Jacob!!!
I visited House On the Rock and it is truly a place you have to see for yourself to believe it. There is SO MUCH to see! We were there from morning to closing. So glad you visited it!
I visited this place back in 1975 as a kid. Nice to see some things don't get updated for no good reason.
Now officially on my bucket list!
The house on the rock is my favorite place to go !
OMG when I was a kid, you could still walk all the way out to the tip of the Infinity Room. The portal was small, like maybe the size of a lunchbox, and you could look down through the glass at the pine tops 300 some feet below. The tip did make a creaky noise!
Easily one of my favorite places ever!! Amazing and hard to explain!
The whole thing is kinda creaky now, and it all sways mildly, nauseatingly, in the wind
I went way back in 2005? So many memories!! This place is absolutely amazing though. I agree best road side attraction.
This is one of my favorite places to visit also, someone really needs to experience this place to do it justice. Most of the original house is carved out of a very large hill, Outside photos will never do justice to what's on the inside, Thanks for the memories,
You little devil!! You went! And you knew about it!!! Can't wait to watch it!!!
Love this place! I've only been there twice but it's an amazing experience. It's mind boggling how much stuff there is to see. Thanks for filming this, Jacob. Looking forward to part 2!
Thank you so much for doing house on the rock. I went 22 years ago and always wanted to go back. There is way to much there to just tell people about. I didnt have a camera when I went. I am just overjoyed to share this others.
Having been behind the curtain in small museums housing antique "attractions", I'm impressed by the housekeeping! The darkness not only enhances the showmanship, it preserves the articles. (Little can be done when century-old silk shatters.)
+Beth Waltz i think the darkness adds something
I've been there twice and my kids are begging me for us to go back , one of the best ,museums I've ever been too, love it 😀
Bryan Fitzgerald grow up yea baby
Don't feed the trolls. Report, block, and move on. He made a similar intelligent response on my comment.
Thank you for your review of this site - it really helped us in visiting it!
Interesting place to visit. Thanks Jacob for taking us along on the ride.
Finally you went to the house of the rock, I never been there, I'm from México, but I always feel curiosity ti go there someday. I was wondering if some day you will go there, since I watch tour vídeos I thougth that place is like the ones you visit !
Very nicely done Jacob - You always make interesting and enjoyable videos - you rock!!
This place has been on my bucket list for years! I will most likely never see it in person so this is second best!
I like the entertainment value of your videos!
My roommate works in the gift shop. I've never been so i'm happy you visited (:
Absolutely loved this Carpetbagger, off to watch part 2 👍👍👍
Wow! What an awesome place, can't wait for Part 2.
Such a great video! I have always wanted to go to the house on the rock and have heard abt it my entire life. Loved the dying drunkard... Loved, *LOVED* the old town! it reminds me alot of the old Milwaukee village in the Milwaukee Museum. Another place I really love. Thank you so much for sharing this... Greetings from Madison, Wisconsin!
Jacob that was *AWESOME* !!!!!!
I’ve been there twice. Awesome place, so much to see. Would love to go back.
Just went there yesterday! So overwhelming!!
That was awesome...mesmerizing...and terrifying all at the same time! Kudos to you Jacob for not fleeing from those creepy clowns!
Awesome place! Could spend all day there!
I want to thank you so much. I saw this video ages ago and thought it seemed so awesome! Since then, my parents have moved to Wisconsin so when I came to visit them this week they asked me what I wanted to do and I said “I want to go to the House on the Rock” and they were so confused. They’ve only been here for about 2 years, but they had never heard of it. Well, today we went and had the most amazing day ever!
Was I simultaneously terrified and mesmerized? Yes.
Were we all slightly concerned that it was like the Hotel California and we would never be able to leave, then be forced to become the mannequins spotted throughout the house? Yes.
Are we all still slightly unsure whether or not we actually walked through that house versus just having a shared fever dream? Yes.
This place was like nothing else I have ever been to. It was so eclectic and strange and kept you guessing at what was coming next. I would personally say this is a MUST SEE if visiting Wisconsin.
It's been a long time sense I was there, but it looks like a lot of the mechanical devices are getting out of adjustment, or wearing out. The bolero drum is way out of sync 3:01 but didn't used to be. The skeleton by the bed in the dying drunkard 12:08 only rises about half the height it used to. The magician 13:44 is leaning backward, and his hat is out of sync with the red/white/black dice trick (it used to hide the change. ) The sultan in the sultan and necromancer 14:58 used to turn his head in disapproval, move his hookah hand, and fan himself with the other hand, and the necromancer's star has fallen off his wand.
Watch this on to see the differences ua-cam.com/video/fk64z1YN_sY/v-deo.html
Sam Morex did you know most of the instruments are fake? They never actually worked! It was a huge scam!
Most of the musical instruments didn’t actually work from the day they were made! They where fake and scams that the guy made, the guy who made this wasn’t actually a very nice guy he was rude and mean!
As a Wisconsin native I really want to get a chance to see it again, also the pizza is good too i guess lol
I remember feeling like the tour would never fucking end when I was a kid
This is like Frank Loyd Wright's Fallingwater on acid.
My mom and dad were there years ago and told us how cool it was!
Probably my favorite series you've done.
Ah thank you! So many childhood memories!
Stanley Kubrik bachelor pad! I love it!
How can you even dislike a Carpetbagger video?
Yes!!! Glad to see you up here doing another one of your exposes...Love it! Thanks for highlighting something special from Wisconsin....
Jacob...where do you find these wonderful attractions?? You are quickly becoming my favorite personality on You Tube. LOVE IT!!
Alex Jordan Jr. was a gifted architect if he's still alive I'd love to see some of the other buildings he designed
I went here a few years ago! Nice to know you like it so much; it's really an incredible place.
I love this place.
hey carpetbagger, I've never really been too many places so watching your videos makes me feel like I'm there in a way! gives me places to put on my bucket list. please keep doing what you're doing!! I love your videos! ❤
I liked it so cool a house with hardly any Windows is awesome
VERY VERY NEAT CARPETBAGGER
Our favorite place on earth :)
My favourite UA-camr at my favourite attraction: result! I've not visited House on The Rock and I've not met you, Jacob, but I'd love for both to happen!
I actually asked my partner if we could get married there but as we're in England it'd be a long trip for us, not to mention friends and family! For now, I'm just glad we get to see you there 😊
+NotMostGirls it'd be worth it
He's going to blame you for encouraging me! 😆
I love all of the lamps
Only a few minutes into the video, and it's exciting to watch a video abt your fav road side attraction! W000T!!!!!
I love house on the rock, thank you for making this video
I was waiting for one of the dolls to wave.
ehrldawg my thought exactly
Wonderful video! Loved seeing the old dolls, banks and music box! Living in the Midwest myself I've always heard about this place and now thanks to you I've seen it!! Thanks for sharing!
4:45 reminds me of the library in Winona, Minnesota. Loved going there after school. Had glass flooring on the upper floors that used to give me anxiety
Watching this even makes my anxiety go thru the roof lol
This place is definitely on my bucket list...this is my kind of weird and strange!!!
That off tune banjo machine is like a harbinger for something horrible crossing over to our world. This place would make a great setting for a horror movie
I've been here several times. Video doesn't really do it justice...you have to experience it.
I'm guessing that closed stairway (6:59) led up to the observation deck on top of the House. It's a shame you couldn't go up there,it's a really amazing view of the surrounding countryside.
The big watermill outside the Mill House was actually working? On previous visits,I've *never* seen that thing move!
+snarkus63 you really do need to visit it in person for the full experience
Don't I know it....I'm looking forward to the part when you get to the carousel.
It would have been fun if Jacob heard a fire alarm after inspecting that box. Somebody could not resist the temptation. Then Jakob would say "whew" glad it wasn't me (with a sheepish grin). I want to visit that house also. Thanks Jakob for the footage.
Sorry I spelled Jacob wrong.
Possum 1 is awesome. keep the car safe wildlife everywhere.
Esmeralda's design is beautiful! She was my favourite thing.
Cool vintage stuff, pretty unique :)
I just commented on one of your videos asking if you have been here. Looks like I got my answer. My dad drove me three days just to get here, it was the best place I have ever been to. The entire place smelt like pizza and we didn't know why until we found a pizza place inside. I wish I could go there every year.
Good morning! Hello Jacob! Great vlog
Love that place, hopefully a visit again soon
What a place Jacob. I know you would have enjoyed it. Looking forward to part 2. Love from OZ💕
this one is in the bag
Great vid! It's funny how when you live or lived in a place you don't realize what's around you. I grew up in Wisconsin and remember seeing this on Discover Wisconsin as a kid and wanted to see it then, now I want to see it even more after your vid. Looks like a very cool place to visit. Take care- Andy
Interesting place. Perhaps Wright was simply trying to discourage competition, cuz this guy really was talented & very imaginative. His creations are both entertaining & unsettling, like vintage dolls are simultaneously beautiful & terrifying.
Yeah, just the kind of place I'd want to live,- in a place that's UNSETTLING! Wright wasn't worried about this guy being a competitor. How many other places did he design? Did people rush to acquire his services after seeing this circus sideshow? Wright WAS wrong about one thing, though... This guy built THE most elaborate tree house chicken coop I've ever seen!
I thought the house itself was claustrophic, but the rest of it is super cool. Been there twice!
Wow, I can't believe Jacob just leaked the setting of the fourth BioShock game lmao
Happy fathers day
That was super cool the banjo machine
I just read "American Gods" . House on the rock was mentioned and it sparked my imagination. Thank you for posting this video. It added color to the pictures in my mind .
yes! my family loves this quirky place.
i live in WI and i hae been here a few times and its so cool, but there is a huge whale and it scares me, but i really love the the Streets of Yesterday so much
🤩🤗😍 I love the Dolls, such an amazing collection of dolls!
Also very 😎 Mechanical dolls too!
I live about 2 hours from The House on the Rock. I've seen it. It looks like a nightmare come to life. Very wierd. Imagine having to clean it. No thanks.
I can't imagine living there. It looks like a David Lynch movie.
I spent a lot of time at this place!! I love it there!
