You're giving these places excellent exposure and basically advertising them, I'll never understand the ones that won't let you film. Keep up the great work!
because they think by preventing people from filming it others have to come and see it in person. yeah I know it's a damn stupid policy because guys like this as mentioned before are essentially advertising for them but when I can't even see a film I don't want to go there it actually bores me it doesn't create a sense of curiosity at all and I end up going to a different museum that I can film inside of.
@@gravedigr12 I agree 170%...seeing a video of it would make me want to go see it more opposed to me seeing just pictures...
Especially considering if he had actually been able to film the door opening then closing by itself that would have brought even more interest to the place.
These people dont need this fat idiot to expose their already famous places.
Man, imagine if you had the carpentry contract back then.... consistent work for 30 years.
My uncle's friend is actually helping them restore some things. He's in his 80s and retired but has the know-how to fix some of the old woodwork around the place.
Beefy G The story is she was no delight to work for, that if you shirked for a second, you were out.
Beefy G She kept a lot of people employed for 30 years at least.
@@vvarietyshow that is awesome
Cre80s She did pay well
She also put hot water sinks that had built in scrubbing boards in the laundry room so it was less work in the maids. She also had a specific bedroom for every worker who lived there, had a floor completely dedicated to her workers, and had a huge bell that rang every day at noon and 5pm to inform workers that it was their meal time, which she fed them all. They were paid double the going rate for workers and had a guaranteed job at all times. It’s rumored that the bell would also ring at midnight and 2am while she visited her seance room. She also had her carriage house built into her house so that the drivers didn’t have to fetch the horse and carriage from outside.
It’s actually a 12 foot drop. Also, she took the earthquake as an omen that the front of the house was close to completion and the back wasn’t nearly worked enough. The spirits weren’t thrilled with it so she shut off the north and continued the back. Also, they technically don’t know where the farm house was originally because it had been built around so much. She also had a room called the “hall of fires” that was literally a room with a chair, 4 fire places, and 3 hot air vents that she often sat in to ease her arthritis pains.
My Grandmother told me the story when I was a kid - on my bucket list...Thanks for sharing!
I took the tour a long time ago, and our tour guide said it was so Sarah's caregivers could check in on her in the bathroom in case she fell in the shower. That is why she had a glass door on her shower.
I knew they did't allow filming but it's great they allowed you to take photos.
RhettyforFun when I went a few years ago, we couldn’t even take photos :(
@@blacktopsflipflops7438 I had always heard it was that was as well which is why I've never been there.
I guess it all depends on who you are because there are videos on YT of the tour
@@hotakkord93 Sometimes it can inconspicuous cameras being used but it could also depend on payments made.
I bet the medium's husband was a contractor lol.
lol, exactly
This was one of my favorite things that l visited in California when l went in the early 90's. It still looks the same. They do a great job maintaining it. It's kind of sad for poor old Mrs. Winchester though. She had all that money but she didn't ever seem to be very happy. She just became a recluse and never enjoyed anything about being wealthy.
she built a hospital in Illinois which is still in use today and she`d give to needy families unanimously in
San Jose
I work there and I was so stoked to meet The Carpetbagger and Adam. I don't know why it took me so long to finally watch this episode. I remember we were in the gazebo which has been converted into a small museum just off of the gift shop, and there was an animal chirping and running around above us in the ceiling and we caught a glimpse of it in an open hatch, realizing it was a squirrel hiding from the rain outside.
Poor Adam, all those small doors and hallways
I don’t think it’s creepy. It’s just sad 😔 especially all them doors, locks and safes to her husband and daughters lock of hair.
Mandy My thoughts exactly. Sarah's story is heartbreaking.
Lots of mythbusting in this SFGate article: www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/real-story-of-sarah-winchester-mystery-house-12552842.php Bottom line, a lot of the rumors about her weren't true, and were probably founded in some good ol' class envy.
We tried to film here and they were almost screaming at us to stop... smh. They don't realize what great exposure it is nowadays, best promotion there is to have in on UA-cam!
Rob S yeah thats why companies spend millions a year on advertising...
@Rob S As a struggling creative I know that all too well, but Winchester Mystery House isn't selling a service, they're selling a tourist attraction. Exposure matters a lot especially in the social media age.
Yeah really, its ridiculous.
@Rob S technically yes it does BC it brings more customers.
@Rob S I guarantee you that most people that watch a Carpetbagger video just want to visit the places themselves even more. Just look at how often certain places become overcrowded with people because it got trendy on instagram for example. The joke "exposure doesn't pay the bills" came about because people would take an artist's craft for granted and also never really have the exposure to give. They aren't selling a service, it doesn't change anything. There is no ending or twist that a UA-cam video would give away.
I think the psychics family owned a construction company.
My biggest surprise about the house is that I expected it to be in the middle of nowhere, and it’s actually right smack in the middle of a business district.
It’s an awesome place to visit, I highly recommend it. I love the staircase to nowhere. 🙂
They have a great candle light night tour during Halloween. Very spooky. Highly recommend.
Well done Jacob. Thank you for sharing the Winchester House with us.
Ghost adventures did a episode of this place 😍😍😍😍
Lol the "rosebud" is classic.never get sick of it
Dear Carpetbagger, we just HAD to comment on this video! We have many tours of this house in our video library--but yours is the BEST! You showed things that none of the others have shown. The tour outside was awesome! We didn't mind the tour in photos! Keep up the GREAT work!
i agree..best one i have ever seen.....no one else took the time to film around the outside of the house , usually you just see a far shot of the front.
I think the Charlie Chaplin Flick of the Dumb Waiter, means that the dumb waiter is the person watching the Flick. You're dumb in waiting for something to happen. It's absurdist comedy/theatre.
Hahah thats hilarious. 😂😂😂
I love doing tours of this place. It's really incredible to see in person and wander around. She was pretty brilliant. 💯🏆💕
I’ve been fascinated with that place, since I was a kid. I have articles that I cut out of the newspaper years ago. Someday I will make it there. Awesome!
Great tour of the unique and spooky Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California! You created a great vlog despite the restrictions for filming indoors. Funny comments and fun story telling made it a very enjoyable experience for us. Thank You!
You need to put the Haunted Museum in Vegas on your list
Jacob! You just keep outdoing yourself!
That house is Amazing to walk through. Visiting there makes you wonder if it was just craziness or was there actually spirits in the place, or Both?......
So sad that a medium would tell her to build that house-she must have been tortured-sad-but great video Jacob!
Have you ever heard of/considered visiting The Harry Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe PA? It’s architecture is the basis of The Haunted Mansion in Disney World.
Very cool. Its too bad they no longer allow filming. It is good you are allowed photos. You did a great job in portraying the house. Enjoyed your tour very much. Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤
Seems odd filming isn't allowed. My guess is maybe because of liability or the spirits don't want to be filmed. :/ I know that when I went there twice that photos were allowed. My family has a few photos from one of our visits.
You sound like your getting sick.....take care of yourself Jacob, you may need some rest and a break. We love your videos but you should rest......thank you for visiting the Winchester house and doing what you love. Take care
"You sound like *you're* getting sick."
EnglishatHeart Grammar Nazi..lol seriously have nothing better to do.....smh excuse me for not catching that ......
Adam looks so funny walking around in that house. I'd have no problem being 4'9". That house is like a fun house.
YES!!! you did rosebud at the Winchester Mystery House!! lol love it
I have a vintage Winchester Model 94 that belonged to my grandfather. Love that thing!
My 8 yr old would love exploring this house. He loves different types of architecture and random placement of things :)
Very cool visit! 😀 She sounds like she was very tender hearted.
As interesting as the house and story is, I feel bad for her and her obvious mental break she had.
It isn’t a true story, it was all publicized for tourism. She never actually lived in the house.
I work right by there! I see it every time I go to work. XD
The best placed I've ever been to. When you've done about everything else in Cail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what i loved the most about visiting this property was the commitment to preservation.. the unfinished parts painted black, the visible cracks from the earthquake.. the extended grounds tour was my favorite part. why sarah continued to build i have no idea, but it used to be EVEN BIGGER before the earthquake, which blows my mind! as for the ghosts, i’ve never felt a place less haunted in my life. spiritualism was pretty popular at the time though, so seeking out a psychic during mourning seems pretty logical.
also some of the first bathroom showers ever in the area!
a lot of the atriums are light wells :)
I wonder why the movie about this ( WINCHESTER - 2018 ) got the big 👎👎thumbs down by the movie critics ? I found this story very interesting !
I loved the movie!
Because the movie was awful. I couldn't even sit through the entire thing it was so boring. It was like a scifi channel movie, and not in a good way.
I enjoyed the film but wish it was a bit more true to the story. I liked that they used the actual house for some scenes as well.
I agree the movie wasn’t that great. But the house itself is Beautiful.
Cute girl in the picture
Yes,I watched it when Zak baggans went there more than once!
He gets on my nerves but I’m on a binge watch of all his videos & I can’t stop, they are so addicting. So congrats?! Lol
That was crazy cool too bad you couldn't film in there
the house is a manifestation of some woman that was simply nuts!!
Yes! You finally got there, sweet! Definitely a spot on my bucket list, very cool that you saw the door open like that. Wish they would let people video.
Why on earth does the Winchester Mansion have the best shooting gallery I have ever seen?
*watches closely to see if I appear in the background* I was working here when you visited!
Edit- Ah! It's Bill!! He was a great guide. I'm glad you got him :)
Best video i have ever seen on this.....thank you
Love the Winchester house been through there several times . One of my favorite places to visit. The switch back steps made it easier for her to climb
Hey you came to SJ! Thanks !
It could be a reflection, but in the pic at 12:50 on the left, there's a foggy see through image of what looks like a fireplace or something, or the lower half of one. Obviously its not a person and prob not a ghost because of that, but maybe there did used to be a fireplace there at some point but it was torn out? I know Sarah Winchester put a lot of things in and tore them out as she was building to confuse the spirits. It just looks very strange, not sure if anyone else noticed it.
Thank you so much for visiting here. I've wanted so bad to see this place, but I probably never will. Thanks to you, I was able to experience not only this place, but several others I'll probably never see. I'm glad you do what you do because not everybody can travel due to money, time, etc. etc.
Woooah, I was just there 3 days ago.
(At least, when this comment was posted I was there 3 days ago.)
Been there many times and it is bizarre and beautiful
Yes!Finally!I’ve wanted you to go to this place for so long now!
Adam’s laugh in the background at your first fortune was great!
I'd 💘 to go. Went when I was a kid and they were closed.
Fantastic photos/video, Jacob! Suggestion: 'Kingsholm' up @ 'Lake Tahoe'......😉
NICE ONE JACOB. THANKYOU XXXX
Fascinating indeed
Jacob needed some DayQuil on that trip. California weather will do that to ya...
fun fact: this movie inspired the stephen king mini-series rose red (my personal favorite!) so i would LOVE to go see this someday! so glad you made it here!!
Very cool place. Glad you enjoy the place
Thanks for going there
My hometown! Glad your visiting! Hope you can check out the MYSTERY SPOT up in Santa Cruz too!
You're
For this person should know that this place is a little spooky and creepy but it's full of mystery.
That .25cent ask a wizard thing is from the board game "Ask Zandar" lol. I can't believe they're charging people for that.
You have a good shot Jacob.
Clearly you have a cold and you are out videoing in the rain ..... many thanks.
Njoyed
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I love this house.
So strainge you may not fim!!! The Ghost adventure taem has made more then one docu at this house. Greetings from the Brussels man
This is definitely some where I would love to see!
Wow it's been a very long time since I've been there! Thanks for the video
AAAA YOU DID IT, thank you so much man! I hope you had a great time and I hope you liked my home city! Stay safe out there please!
Officially adding this place to my bucket list. I love the eerie vibe!
This is definitely on my short list of places to visit
When you get back to the east coast, you should check out the National Marine Corps Museum.its outside of DC off of 95 near Quantico. Really cool place. All museums should look like this.
Hi Jacob I have been to the Winchester mystery house. I remember this lovely but haunted Victorian home had so many rooms and odd stairs that led to nowhere and only to the ceiling. She had many stain glass windows. This is a huge home. So sad she passed away in 1922 and never finish the other parts of the rooms and other parts of this bizarre home. 👍🏻😺
Very interesting story and house. I hope to tour it one day
People speculate that a lot of the house was built to confuse ghost. Some say she was hard to work for and jobs didn't get completed. She took it as a sign to stop that project and build elsewhere. There's probably some truth to both. At the very least, there's gotta be a point where constant building just doesn't make sense anymore.
Went there a few years ago. It was interesting.
At least she kept people employed building that house for 30 years. I'm 4"9' so I'd have no problem in that house. I can see why you need a tour guide for that house. You could get lost in it. I think the door to nowhere was for the evil spirits to escape from. It's a crazy story for sure.
During Halloween they do nighttime flashlight tours.
My first initial is "M" and I'd love to go on an adventure! Come to RI, let's go to the Roger Williams Zoo!!
I’ve been waiting forever for you to visit here I figured if I’m not gonna make it soon you’re the next best person to go
Great tour. I hope to get there soon
I do remember I went to Winchester Mystery House with New Horizons
on Saturday, May 17, 2014.
I am so happy you and Adam finally made it to my neck of the woods...though sj is ugly now, but I do like that house. Her granddaughter lives down the street from my mom, (where we have the opossum) ...she too is quiet,. It is sad how she became, but the house is fantastic! All the malls around there used to be the farm land with apricots, plums mostly. Glad you enjoyed!
Such a fascinating story
I was there a few years ago. It was amazing. The funny thing is I was wearing the same hoodie that Jacob is wearing. Lol!!
You should go to Hearst Castle on the Pacific Coast and you should go to the Hotel Madera it is pink and tack and on the Pacific Coast, the rooms are all different.
I really enjoyed touring this house. Can't wait to see where you go next
I never clicked so fast I REALLY WANTA GO THERE SO BAD and people said Sarah's ghost standing at the bottom of the stear case
My dad,my godfather Salvador Gutierrez and myself came here and I came away with a sign called Tony's Place.Tony has spoken.
Omg thank you for going to the Winchester mystery house. I have been recommending this to you for such a long time.
The face stuck on the wall was actually a speaker phone one of the things nobody really understood why it was there but from hearing from someone directly related to her that was put there as she would get orders from spirits through that speaker phone when she was not in or around the seance room it is actually kind of like the torture device where someone was put inside a metal bull and the bill would get set ablaze from the bottom and the screams would sound like bull grunting same philosophy except this was a direct module installed so she could communicate with spirits.
Im sure Mrs Winchester is very pleased with the shooting gallery and novelties.
Yes gun guns guns! The guns that helped build America!
Crazy. This is on my bucket list. I have a lot of places on there now thanks to you lol
You need to get on Mr. Winchesters facial hair level. Let those chops go nuts! I have faith in you.
