One of humanities beautiful masterpieces. Better than anything being passed off as music today. Superb vocals coupled with incredible musicians gives you an absolute masterpiece.
I think maybe they were the first punk band, but it’s an iconic song from the 60’s.I can’t fathom how many guys over in Vietnam listened to this and jumped around like there was no tomorrow.
@@rexjolles I remember reading an article in the early 80’s where “The Cramps” were asked why they covered this song. They said it was because it was one of the first punk songs that they had ever heard. That’s what made me think of it that way, maybe you’re a better judge of it than I am,but that’s my opinion.
This song is based on a R&B song from about 3 years earlier called "Papa Ooh Mow Mow" by The Rivingtons. The bands The Ramones and The Cramps both do great covers of this song.
This is actually 2 videos put together. The first part is Steve Wahrer, the drummer and lead vocalist of the Trashmen on American Bandstand. The second guy with the piano on the stage is a comedian from the Netherlands named Andre Van Duin during a talent show.
Wow! You're right. I've seen this video maybe a dozen times but never looked closely enough to realize it was two different people's performances. Thanks for the tip.
This is song is from 1963.I wonder what people though of it back then lol. That video is crazy and probally started a field day with the audience. Btw this song charted #4 on the billboard top 100 in 1963.
SB is a classic. There is indeed a LOT of weird, waaay out there music. If you are curious about weird music like that one, see if you can get a hold on the Wavy Gravy compilation albums (not the artist named WG but the V/A albums). Some really bizarre and totally awesome rock'n'roll from the basement stuff (and some not quite awesome) on those. Not something I could listen to on a regular basis but for the odd one at a party or something then hell yeah.
While the Brits were chasing the US, the Americans were already busy inventing punk rock, about 10 years before it finally broke. Take that, “British Invasion”.
In 1963 Surfin Bird was #3 on the Pop charts . I wore my 45 copy out and had to replace it. I still have it and play it from time to time. This song was like freedom from the some old same old of 1963 boring crap. Keep in mind the Beatels did NOT came out until late 64, this was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay before them.
Actually the Beatles exploded in the states in early 1964, just before their historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9. I believe both Surfin Bird and The Beatles were in the top ten on record charts at the same time.
Hey Kayla, I just saw your recent video reaction to Surfin Bird and it was so awesome and incredible to watch your face burst out laughing(for joy😂😂😂😂😊😊😊😊). I am writing to thank you for your "shout out" towards me, I really appreciate your kind words and heartfelt condolences for knowing you the longest (therefore a part of your life :)......., ). As for the thoughts of the music video, I honestly didn't see that coming and should have given you a heads up on that. You look so cool and pretty with your make up, haircut and earrings on. Lastly, as long as you (and everyone else has seen it), the various opinions whether good or not, won't hurt me in anyway possible. You really made my day, talk to you soon and keep on trucking 🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚
What happen they couldnt afford plane flight they just had hit. And ONLY ENOUGH FOR ONE TICKET SO LATE STEVE DRUMMER AND GREAT VOICE WAS SHIPPED OUT. SINCE THERE WAS NO GROUP HE HAD TO LIP SYNCE DANCE TO IT. ITS SHAME. WHEN ORGINAL LOOK BAND WOULD BEEN GREAT
Trashmen were simply a studio group, and the guy lip synching and prancing around like an idiot had nothing to do with this record. which i would advise the rest of you to do if Because the song is absolute garbage. As an 8 year old when it came out I even knew it was garbage...there's an old saying "If it smells, it sells."
Possibly the greatest musical performance in the history of human civilization.
sip of coffee for the trashmen!! ☕

The song was just for kicks, really a funny song.
This was 1963. We hit rock bottom. Now you know why we welcomed the British Invasion of 1964 with their refreshing sounds.
This is awesome we didn't need those Brit boys

"Was that a serious song or just a troll *giggle*" sums it up, i think.
Nope. Surf Music.
Surfin Bird is basically the birthplace of punk rock. Think of it that way.

Buen vídeo! :D
Bird
It was a novelty song.
Hahaha. Back in the day. Teenagers.
He was the drummer when I watched him performed. Have you ever been flipped the bird?
Great song ! The pure Surf Rock sound.
So whats the Word?
the bird is the word
The first time I saw this video I thought that there was something disturbing about it and thought that I had been dosed with LSD !
He was a comedian paid to try and do something entertaining to the song..........The results where fairly predictable
У неё реально шерсть подмыхами? Или мне показалось?
You should listen to “In Maidjan” by Heilung
