Its a really solid movie. In my opinion, it felt like an extended two part episode of the original series, but on a huge budget. I wish it became a bigger hit with audiences.
I'm gonna side with the majority here and say that 1 and 2 were far better than 3. I was very disappointed with Beyond. For instance, the reveal that the "alien" villains turned out to be just mutated humans was pretty disappointing. No diverse planets or alien races for the whole movie, and like, oh, we went to the frontier of the universe and the plot was still just about human conflict after all. And that they got defeated by rock music was just lame as if they ran out of ideas for the script.
1 had amazing space battles and the time-traveling plot line itself wins the crown already. And I was so impressed with the sequence in 2 where Kirk had to work with the untrustworthy Khan and fly toward the enemy ship in space suits, and his helmet unexpected malfunctioned, I was like "that's Mission Impossible in space! that's how you make Mission Impossible!"
Beyond is easily the best of the Pine Trek movies , in large part because of 1. The McCoy-Spock story and 2. The mystery aspect
I'm bummed we never got a fourth entry
I'm kinda amazed at how many people on here are such big fans of Star Trek Beyond. While there are moments in it that really felt like pure Trek to me, it was a weird action movie more than anything else - like Fast and Furious in Space or something. However, the fact that Abrams and Bad Robot would call Justin Lin to ask if he has any ideas for a new Trek at the end of January and production is to start in June is simply shocking and explains why the movie came out like it did. It just shows two things: 1) Abrams and Bad Robot didn't give two shits about Star Trek and were only looking to fulfill their contract to make Trek movies; 2) Abrams and Bad Robot are little better than hacks if this is how they go about their business.
I mean, look at what they did to Star Wars. No planning, zero overarching story beats. Absolute mess.
The final result was great. Beyond is a fantastic Trek film.
I wouldn’t call it great, but it’s at least fun and much better than the second one, which basically doomed this series of films.
Idk. I still don’t grasp idris and Zoe catching his voice . Seemed like such a stretch to me . But I loved the score :)
Disagree, the fact that they beat the enemy with the beastie boys is dumb.
@@Hunter_Rose_30Giacchino’s the GOAT 😅
I just can't agree. Calling it fantastic in this way just seems like an insult to the movies that really were up there. You liking it is fine, you do you, but it was at best a good film and no where near a great Star Trek film. It was efficient product for those that only know how to mindlessly consume a thing.
Beyond is my favorite one out of the 3 new ones
Justin Lin did such a great job with Beyond. I love Star Trek (2009) and I like Star Trek: Into Darkness, but they’re all about the action. Everything in the Kelvin Timeline is action and explosions, whereas the original Star Trek was about exploration, and Beyond brought it back to exploration. Sure, it’s a Hollywood film so it still has its action and explosions, but it at least FELT like Star Trek again.
I love those 3 new movies!!! Why's taking them so long to do another movie , it is BEYOND me !
It is such a fantastic trek movie. The first two in that trilogy felt like they didn't want to be trek, and then Beyond comes along and just gives Trek a big hug and gets welcomed back into the fold.
Star Trek Beyond had the creativity of TNG to me. Riding the bike through the camp was straight out of Data using his phaser to scare the locals into leaving to save themselves. There's just so much of that "Oh well, guess you need to figure it out" with amazingly creative solutions.
Beyond is the best Kelvin to me - the first that really stood on its own. Love it.
I love Star Trek Beyond all these years later. It may be my least favorite of the three Kelvin Films, but it is still just such a wonderful thrill ride with incredible action, music, acting and emotions.
Rest in Peace Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin😢💙
The best film out of them all with that cast
Star Trek Beyond was so so so good. It's amazing it came together. What a crazy environment to work in. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
Props to Justin and Simon. Beyond was the only film in that trilogy that actually felt like a Stat Trek film.
Star Trek Beyond was easily my favorite of the three movies, it honestly felt like finally we got a classic trek film but with this cast and characters still in their prime as well as a big budget. Everything from McCoy sharing a drink with Kirk and talking about morality and the fact He is about to outlive his father and the Stock and McCoy interactions were totally something out of the TOS and films.
STB is not only surprisingly damn good, I'm so glad to hear Justin say it was his dream to tell a Bones & Spock story cuz that was my favorite part.
Beyond did what fans wanted. The familiar characters in place and a mystery to solve, and adventure to be had. It also felt like "Trek", unlike Nu-Trek on TV (Lower Decks rulez tho), with its Starfleet Captain disillusioned and becoming the bad guy. A great Trek tradition.
I wish there was a Star Trek 4 film already with these Kelvin Timeline characters.
We were so close to a Tarantino Star Trek 4
Strange New Worlds and it’s cinematic look have pretty much made the need for more Kelvin universe Star Trek movies pointless.
@@stevencramsie9172 For you.
I think with Beyond, it feels more like a traditional trek film. But the rush production had effects with the final product but it was still a enjoyable film and you can tell Simon Pegg and Doug who wrote the film clearly had the knowledge to write a trek film, it's a shame they weren't given more time to give us a great film.
but with the Kelvin timeline I prefer Beyond, I feel with the Trek 09, you can see JJ Abram's is far more a Star Wars and that influence the way he made both 09 and into Darkness and for me I felt into Darkness was a lazy attempt to cash in one of the franchise best movies.
At least Beyond they made the attempt to make it a trek movie and use what was established before it, I liked how they used the events of Enterprise and the Xindi arc as it shows the writers knew what they doing, I just wish they had more time to write a script.
Beyond was the best of the nu Trek films, but still, I thought Idris Elba was largely wasted and his character deserved some kind of redemption arc. But it was snappy and Lin clearly knew what he was doing.
JJagoff Abrams: “you wanna do my homework for me? great opportunity for you”
Loved this movie growing up, I think of the three New Trek movies, you could fairly say this one of the best. It felt like a classic Star Trek series episode idea morphed into a big movie setting, all the epic set pieces, great visuals, and I loved the character dynamics and writing in this one, it was top-notch. Also they managed to add a new character in the mix, Jaylah (Sofia Boutella) inbetween all these classic character and yet she was still equally engaging and fun to watch, I know she likely won't come back because Boutella's career is picking up, but its commendable how fun and entertaining all these characters were to watch in this third film and that they're still developing/changing. I mean it started off as a reboot but by Beyond they had really come into their own.
its absolute bullshit the way the studios have harangued any potential for another sequel, what becuz Beyond made a bit less money, as if Star Trek movies haven't historically always made less. And then the wage-conflict with Pine and Hemsworth, they spend MILLIONS on the Star Trek tv series that get no viewership yet refuse to give this sequel any leeway?? People like these characters more than the last couple shows they've made with awful writers/showrunners. Considering how much trash studios make that makes no money, why the hell they won't approve a sequel to movies people actually enjoyed (especially general audiences, not just fans) is beyond me. Hope the whole cast comes back, but likely scheduling conflict will prevent most, but please don't reboot it again, we had a brilliant group of talented people involved in these films not only the performers, but all the visual effects artists, the set/production designers, the costume designers, cinematographer. The writers have not always been as good (Alex Kurtzman is infamously cynical and corporate, but despite his bad influence on the shows, the movies have turned out alright).
Starting a movie with no script definitely sounds like something J.J would do.
Beyond is soooo good
Beyond was the best of the 3 new Star Trek movies - By far.
Suddenly, SW Episode IX makes a lot more sense... Feels like JJ approached it with the same attitude, except in that case it was him directing.
Nah i blame katleen she like the showrunners but has no plan,
thier plan was like diffrent directors and writers each movie nice... you can see JJ and ryan vision clash in ep 8 rey was nobody then in ep 9 she is palpatine grandaughter 😂 wtf
The Sabotage sequence is one of the greatest. Each time I hear the song all I can see is Chekhov tapping his foot (RIP Anton) and Sulu shaking his head... The best thing that happened with that Star Trek trilogy.
Would love to hear him talk about True Detective S2!
This is how Simon Pegg got writers credit. He typed up pages of script in his trailer
beyond was amazing
And yet it was 1000 times better than INTO DARKNESS.
Not exactly a high bar to clear 😂
The direction, acting, and FX in Star Trek: Beyond were great. The HUGE weakness though is Idris Elba's villain character. His motivation and background just didn't convince.
Oh God "star trek mccoy" I believe that is totally accurate to how Karl approaches his work at all times. Not in a way that would ever take attention from anyone else, more that he just soaks up everything he possibly can in every situation.
Crazy opinion, but JJ Abrams should've directed the third Star Trek too. The first 2 were very good. I'm glad that Justin was able to come in and do it though. I just wish there could be a 4th Star Trek with this cast.
As soon as he signed on for Star Wars, this would never happened.
Movie was pretty good considering all the constraints, imagine what he could do if they give him a bit more time.
Beyond is the best and most Trek of the JJverse movies.
I consider that movie a dumpster fire tbh....I feel for the guy. He was between a rock and a hard place. Don't blame him.
but why was it like that, why so last minute? I don't get it?
decent movie though
JJ Abrams style seemingly, which gets lucky sometimes but fucks up stuff so badly most of the time
Beyond is my favorite of the three but that doesn't mean it's a great movie. Really wish I could have seen what it would have been like if he'd gotten a good year or more to just sit down and work on the script. Is that too much to ask for?
I was hopeful that the 3rd film 🎥 would have been an all out war with the Federation and Klingons which was set up in the 2nd film.
Well I'm guessing the reason we never saw Star Trek 4 is because of the great performance of Star Trek 3 @the box office. If you ever decide to do this again you might want to get people who A know Star Trek and B love Star Trek.
"Beyond" was the best of the 3. If it had been the second film, it would have done SO much better at the B.O. The first was a Star Wars clone and "into Darkness" was just uninspired.
I wish Tarantino did Star Trek 4 with the Kelvin cast, would’ve been fun
Basically seems like Abram’s fault then, from what is presented here. I guess he could have had some roadblocks on his own side too of course though.
Does he ask him to spill the REAL reason he left Fast X? That's a mystery I want unraveled. Exactly what part of Vin Diesel's ego was the final straw for Lin to leave that franchise?
Better Luck Tomorrow(2002) was...okay.
Proof for my suspicion that J.J. Abrams is less interested in directing good movies than cranking out IP and counting his cash from his producer credits
He was trained at the hand of spelberg
@@A.N.A8 I think he just gave Spielberg a hand job
While they made a solid movie, JJ Abrams approach to this is worrisome and does explain some things. This is a good way to ruin a career, a movie, a franchise or all at the same time.
Sorry I have to say it...................Benedict was the wrong actor in the role.
It needed to stay more true to Khan and Ricardo
No script....no wonder
These studios always do this. They have an IP and a production schedule, then rush the script. This is how mediocrity is churned out. But if you're an indie writer on spec or trying to break in, you have to basically have to slave over a flawless, better than professional level bulletproof script to get representation. And that script will likely never be made ... so they can hire you to rush the next Star Trek into production.
The plot was dumb. Wasn't that the one with the bees? lol...
The movie also wasted Elba.
Typical JJ Hackbrams production
I understand now more than ever before why it was such a shitty movie. They had no real story. They just repeated the previous two films with the same old tropes. What a disaster of a film.
No wonder the movie felt rushed they ruined the star trek franchise letting this nobody direct a major title
No offense to this fellow and everyone who worked on this movie, but it explains why this movie was so unbelievably bad. One of the most disappointing movies I’ve ever watched. Hearing this story makes sense because I could see/feel the bts struggles in the movie and on the actors’ faces.
Yet you’ve given absolutely no reasons why it was so bad. You’re just speaking in broad terms just to knock the movie itself.
This movie was terrible
