    Thanks for the experiment! Clearly the heat from the epoxy 'cooks' the live flower! Here is my suggestion:
    Flower dipped in DRY ICE, then an epoxy pour around it!

    Hello, thank you for sharing. I am here because I'd like to preserve Wijaya Kusuma ( Epiphyllum anguliger) flower in resin. However the flower only blooms at night and one night only. It'll wither in the morning, and make it out of shape, so drying the flower will be difficult, I think. The flower has nice fragrance, and the diameter is about 11-13 cm.
    Watching your video, I guess it's impossible to preserve it in resin.

    I’ve been getting better at doing resin in silicone dried flowers, but still having a hard time with upside down roses for spheres! I’m curious if you’ve ever tried or heard of whether glycerin preserved roses would work in resin long term?

    • @DHFreaki
      @DHFreaki 9 місяців тому

      I tried it with a preserved rose last year, but I can't tell how it looks now as I gave it away. But it definitely stayed in perfect condition for the few months I've got to see it after I made it and I plan to do the same thing again. I think it will work long-term, considering it stayed fresh for months after casting.
      Just take care of the thermal heat during the curing process, I casted a little too much which resulted in a lot of heat. It resulted in the roses red color being sort of "extracted" into the resin (which ultimately gave the sphere a lovely reddish shine, so it wasn't really bad, just beware)

    Thank you for the tutorial. One question please. When you placed your first layer of resin. It was still wet not sticky? Is it better to maybe do a thin layer of resin for the bottom then pour another layer on top so the rose or foliage do not go through the bottom and all the flowers are set in the resin.
    I am just thinking the roses will peak through the bottom and won’t be covered by the resin.

    So I couldn't find much info about this and just did my own experiments, as I was hoping to make some things for a local craft show. . I found certain flowers worked fresh and others didn't, and I used UV resin, so it was locked in pretty immediately. Not sure if that made a difference? Anyways, I made a ton and sold a ton at the show, and now I'm seeing this and I'm terrified the stuff I sold is going to go bad :( I would hate that so much. Thing is, it had been 2 weeks or so since I had made them and they still looked perfect. And the few I still have still look perfect too, almost 3 weeks now after they were made. But now I'm really scared something will happen to them later 😕

    • @jasminehoover5359
      @jasminehoover5359 Рік тому

      @clarissauhlendorff4716 They do decompose, some just take longer than others. I still have a few things that look OK, but it was unpredictable which ones. Surprisingly it seems like the UV held up better than the regular resin, with fresh flowers. None of them completely rotted terribly, but I can tell they're not gonna hold up and they lost some color for sure. It's possible that getting 6 months-2 or 3 years out of something could be worth it to you, so that's the risk you're taking, and you decide if it's OK. I would say that's how long they last (given that they're wildflowers, petals, etc, not really juicy fat flowers like roses). Also, to beginners, TAKE ALL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS. I did once I knew but given the materials were sold at michaels etc I didn't think it was dangerous in the beginning, but I absolutely can't do it anymore because of the reaction I developed from not wearing a mask, gloves etc
