in my opinion i think inconsistency is a cool thing to do when ur experimenting a lot and u dont have a clear sense of what ur character has, i used to change my oc all the time bc i was never really happy with it, and it makes for new testing out things every time and makes it more fun also about backstories, i think its ok to have messy backstories and not expose the whole stories. In fact, for me i TRY not to share too much of my backstory and not give too much info bc its not done being written. people are expected to have backstpries when they dont actually really have one yet, and i think thats ok. u dont need to make someone have a backstory when they dont have one. maybe she has one in her head that she doesnt wanna share yet? idk but i resonate with these points and i just wanted u to know what i think.

Hey imma share my opinion on yours c: - - - - 1. (Imma start of by saying ik you don’t hate sashley) 2. In the animation meme community, copying is literally everything. It’s just the same meme with different characters. (I like seeing these cuz I like different character designs and animation style) 3. Sashley’s wings/claws/transparent hair/heart eye is for artistic effect (but the fingerless gloves and whiskers yes you gotta fix but that’s it) 4. AAAAAA (idk why but this part pisses me off a bit) characters don’t need backstories. (Like I’ve had my ocs for over years now and I still don’t have backstories now) although it is nice when a character has a backstory 5. I don’t have anything to say about lancer honestly. It was probably a phase er something 6. She’s young, anatomy is hard, colors- (idk what to say about the colors really it kinda hurts my eyes but it’s your own opinion QwQ) 7. I mean like just because she's young, doesn't mean she can't improve or experiment on anatomy and colors. She seriously just needs to put more effort into everything. I think that every animator will take the concept of an original meme, and then add their own spin-off to it. Sashley on the other hand just literally copies the meme. Notice that in most of her animation memes that aren't original, there's always an "inspiration". She copies the idea to the point where it's no longer an inspiration. However, good thing she credits the animator. You're right about not needing a backstory though. It just makes it confusing when it seems like there's a backstory intended in each video but they're all really different.

i agree with most of what you say, but i really do feel that age shouldn’t determine what level you’re on for anatomy, colors, etc. i know how to draw hands pretty well, and i’m younger than sashley myself.

I believe the reason why Ashley is a “traitor” is because of one of her videos description. (This is how I remember it) Basically Ashley saw an A.U. or a timeline of Frisk killing everyone, So Ashley killed Frisk Even though Frisk did nothing in that timeline. Sans gets mad at Ashley, Even when she tries her best to explain why she killed Frisk. Sans then calls her a traitor *(AND I ASSUME)* leaves her. This is probably why in the Sashley’s Sick Boy meme Ashley seems very off, and in the end is seen with a bloody knife and a corpse on the ground.
I have taken the time to really think about what you are saying here, and I think overall I disagree. also, I am in no way trying to white knight anyone lol, I just don't agree with how this video is structured First, I would like to point out that regardless of how many times you said that you don't hate sashly, in the video your attitude really came off as saltyish In regard to her copying memes, i don't really understand your point considering that the entire community is built on remaking each other's memes. Some people don't copy it to the T, but I don't think there is an issue with heavily referencing something that is supposed to be referenced. I can understand how its annoying that people think you stole a meme that you made first but thats just the internet for ya The part about her character design was a bit hypocritical in my eyes bringing up the point that she was inspired by you and others when you yourself use a pre-made character for your AU (not a bad thing btw, just saying) There is nothing wrong with changing your character as often as you can, i myself change my character and re-make talk sprites like every few videos because I'm unsatisfied with them, assuming Ashley is her fursona, the character can change as often as sashley changes. adding things in animations (wings, robot arm, etc.) isn't a bad thing either, its just adapting the character to the theme of what you are animating. It would be different if sashley was making an animated series or something, and one day her character has jelly hair and the next it has no hair or something, but adding accessories to your character for the sake of a meme is totally fine, and can be seen being done by many many other animation memers. the animation consistency is just a fair critique, nothing i can say about it. someones personal character doesn't need to have a backstory, it would be different i suppose if sashley was actively attempting to create a series of some kind (comic/written story/animation) with the art thing, it's just a fair critique, I can't say anything. TLDR; The critique in regard to her animation and art are the only things i think were well put in this video. Regardless of what you've said about no hard feelings at sashley the attitude presented in this video came off as salty, mean and ig pettyish. The point of this video was confusing are you trying to state an opinion, or give a constructive critique?
Kinda both. I understand the nature of animation memes, I do them myself, and I can get behind copying when you just started animating or every now and then if you have no motivation or have an art block, I don't like it when people do nothing but copy others. I know she can make original things, but it's very few and far between. I just wish she'd come up with her own ideas every once in a while. As for the character thing, I never really stated that Scootaloo was my original character, I just put my own spin on her for my fan-fic thing. Ashley is Sashley's original character, and she doesn't seem to have a purpose other than be a blank slate to stick on whatever she wants because she can. If Ashley is a fursona, that might be excusable, but it looks like she's TRYING to put together a story using her memes, but they make no sense and it ends up being pointless because she has no story for her to portray correctly, and I find setting a story for a fursona to be... strange. I dunno. Unless she's portraying real events, but I doubt that. I guess I agree with the "changing your character" statement, because if she doesn't have a set story then it wouldn't really matter, and she blatantly said that she doesn't have a backstory so you got me there. I'm not sure if I agree with adapting your character to a theme, if I wanted to do a meme that wouldn't fit my character, then I would just use a different character, one that would actually make sense. She doesn't have to, especially since she doesn't seem to have any other characters. That's just what I would do... Hate me if you want (and I do NOT hate Sashley), but I agree with E V E R Y T H I N G Scoots said. Sashley is still a great animator but has a few flaws that were pointed out in this video. Finally someone points them out and I’m not the only one. Still love both of them tho

My OC also has these claw things. These are made of ice though. I really didn’t know that I copied scootz until I was looking threw her animations. My character is a water mage and she’s basically a ice water being, (for example her blood is nitrogen) and ya. Also she throws up water, which is kinda like sweetie bells distraction, BUT HERE ME OUT. I actually throw up when I’m stressed in real life, so I had her puke water to represent that. My character has the power to manipulate water and can only spawn water wings. The only reason I’m saying this is because I don’t want people to get mad at me for being over inspired, which I wasn’t. I don’t want people to think that I don’t make my own decisions, and I know that this won’t get any attention for being so long, but person who read all this, please don’t hate me ;w;

Claws can literally be something on any character. You can't copy any characters features. That's just stupid if people get mad at you for "copying" features.
The only part I disagree with is the backstory part. most of my ocs don't have solid backstories yet and one of my methods for fleshing them out is just... doing stuff with them. drawing them certain ways, etc. im not going to wait to use a character until their entire backstory is fleshed out. maybe I'm just misunderstanding your point, if so please lmk.

i kinda agree with scootaloo because i've been in sashley's shoes before and i'd always change my ocs whenever i didn't like something or i would just add something onto them to give others more of an emotion and a view to see the oc i made, but experimenting with your oc(s) is always good in my opinion because if you're wanting to shape and develop it then it'll slowly transform into something you might like and others might like as well. i've experienced with creating ocs ever since i stepped foot into social media and the first ocs i had were in FNaF and i also gave them magical powers 'n' shit but i did it because i was checking out to see if i was comfortable with it or not and i thought it was really cool, so i kept creating ocs in each fandom i walked into and sat down in (i'm probably ranting, pardon me if i get off-topic haha). but i decided to remove and add, remove and add, remove and add continuously until i found what i wanted on that character/those characters i have created. (off-topic(?) time woohoo) i'm also an oc x canon shipper, but i actually like to see what personalities fit with the canon character and see if the ship i want balances out perfectly. if it doesn't then i'll pretty much try again, iF IT STILL DOESN'T- then i'll just.. change up the character. and the art style kinda reminds me of my art style since i'm not so good with keeping equal eye levels and i'm also not good with keeping proportions equal either but hey, what can ya do?

I had an oc with transparent hair once but I got rid of her because I'm scared people will harass me for it because I'm "copying sashley" When I've had her since 2014 hh She actually had a reason for having transparent hair. She has water powers and her hair was made of water (and I made her before lapis lazuli from su appeared so hush) and she could manipulate water (and spawn it) nd had water wings. I had the same oc but with fire powers. Hhhh

There is nothing wrong with a character redesign. Even if you redesign your character a shit ton, it only means you are experimenting and figuring out what you want your character to look like and be. This goes for personality, backstory, and physical appearance. I know my oc April went through MANY redesigns in her physical look and backstory, although her personality has mostly stayed intact. However, if you are writing a story about them or drawing/animating a comic or series, it’s best to keep the design you started with. Keep the character’s personality consistent until a major plot point changes it. This can also go for looks as well, such as loosing an eye or dying their hair in the middle of the story. Edit: I’ve never gotten this much likes for anything wtf

The certain aspects that show up in some of her animations (like the wings, heart eyes, etc.) I think are meant to just represent something for the tone. Like, a sort of symbolism thing. Like, when i draw myself heart broken, i like to draw broken hearts as pupils.
It’s because most of these points don’t even need to be only pointed at Sashely. They can be pointed at the whole Animation Meme Community. Plus when she only brings up one picture that isn’t “important” and starts picking out flaws, she doesn’t word it in a way where it has to go with most of Sashely’s art. If that was the only picture ( in which we can assume since the title card says “This one picture”), then it seems that way. Everyone is going to have one art piece that’s going to not be their best work. If scootaloolovessans really wanted to critique it, she could’ve went on deviant art and commented . It wasn’t needed to be in the video.

Plus "it's the whole meme community" doesn't help because people wouldn't even think to consider themself, they like to think it is other people and don't take it into consideration. So taking criticism that directs to them would help them more. Plus if she put it in video she'd sound more understandable rather than text because people LOVE to take things out of context.

I think that every animator will take the concept of an original meme, and then add their own spin-off to it. Sashley on the other hand just literally copies the meme. Notice that in most of her animation memes that aren't original, there's always an "inspiration". She copies the idea to the point where it's no longer an inspiration. However, good thing she credits the animator.
You're right about not needing a backstory though. It just makes it confusing when it seems like there's a backstory intended in each video but they're all really different.

I believe the reason why Ashley is a “traitor” is because of one of her videos description. (This is how I remember it) Basically Ashley saw an A.U. or a timeline of Frisk killing everyone, So Ashley killed Frisk Even though Frisk did nothing in that timeline. Sans gets mad at Ashley, Even when she tries her best to explain why she killed Frisk. Sans then calls her a traitor *(AND I ASSUME)* leaves her. This is probably why in the Sashley’s Sick Boy meme Ashley seems very off, and in the end is seen with a bloody knife and a corpse on the ground.

I have taken the time to really think about what you are saying here, and I think overall I disagree.

First, I would like to point out that regardless of how many times you said that you don't hate sashly, in the video your attitude really came off as saltyish
In regard to her copying memes, i don't really understand your point considering that the entire community is built on remaking each other's memes. Some people don't copy it to the T, but I don't think there is an issue with heavily referencing something that is supposed to be referenced.
I can understand how its annoying that people think you stole a meme that you made first but thats just the internet for ya
The part about her character design was a bit hypocritical in my eyes bringing up the point that she was inspired by you and others when you yourself use a pre-made character for your AU (not a bad thing btw, just saying)
There is nothing wrong with changing your character as often as you can, i myself change my character and re-make talk sprites like every few videos because I'm unsatisfied with them, assuming Ashley is her fursona, the character can change as often as sashley changes.
adding things in animations (wings, robot arm, etc.) isn't a bad thing either, its just adapting the character to the theme of what you are animating.
It would be different if sashley was making an animated series or something, and one day her character has jelly hair and the next it has no hair or something, but adding accessories to your character for the sake of a meme is totally fine, and can be seen being done by many many other animation memers.
the animation consistency is just a fair critique, nothing i can say about it.
someones personal character doesn't need to have a backstory, it would be different i suppose if sashley was actively attempting to create a series of some kind (comic/written story/animation)

I understand the nature of animation memes, I do them myself, and I can get behind copying when you just started animating or every now and then if you have no motivation or have an art block, I don't like it when people do nothing but copy others. I know she can make original things, but it's very few and far between. I just wish she'd come up with her own ideas every once in a while.
As for the character thing, I never really stated that Scootaloo was my original character, I just put my own spin on her for my fan-fic thing. Ashley is Sashley's original character, and she doesn't seem to have a purpose other than be a blank slate to stick on whatever she wants because she can. If Ashley is a fursona, that might be excusable, but it looks like she's TRYING to put together a story using her memes, but they make no sense and it ends up being pointless because she has no story for her to portray correctly, and I find setting a story for a fursona to be... strange. I dunno. Unless she's portraying real events, but I doubt that.
I guess I agree with the "changing your character" statement, because if she doesn't have a set story then it wouldn't really matter, and she blatantly said that she doesn't have a backstory so you got me there.
I'm not sure if I agree with adapting your character to a theme, if I wanted to do a meme that wouldn't fit my character, then I would just use a different character, one that would actually make sense. She doesn't have to, especially since she doesn't seem to have any other characters. That's just what I would do...

My OC also has these claw things. These are made of ice though. I really didn’t know that I copied scootz until I was looking threw her animations. My character is a water mage and she’s basically a ice water being, (for example her blood is nitrogen) and ya. Also she throws up water, which is kinda like sweetie bells distraction, BUT HERE ME OUT. I actually throw up when I’m stressed in real life, so I had her puke water to represent that. My character has the power to manipulate water and can only spawn water wings. The only reason I’m saying this is because I don’t want people to get mad at me for being over inspired, which I wasn’t. I don’t want people to think that I don’t make my own decisions, and I know that this won’t get any attention for being so long, but person who read all this, please don’t hate me ;w;

i kinda agree with scootaloo because i've been in sashley's shoes before and i'd always change my ocs whenever i didn't like something or i would just add something onto them to give others more of an emotion and a view to see the oc i made, but experimenting with your oc(s) is always good in my opinion because if you're wanting to shape and develop it then it'll slowly transform into something you might like and others might like as well.
i've experienced with creating ocs ever since i stepped foot into social media and the first ocs i had were in FNaF and i also gave them magical powers 'n' shit but i did it because i was checking out to see if i was comfortable with it or not and i thought it was really cool, so i kept creating ocs in each fandom i walked into and sat down in (i'm probably ranting, pardon me if i get off-topic haha). but i decided to remove and add, remove and add, remove and add continuously until i found what i wanted on that character/those characters i have created.
(off-topic(?) time woohoo) i'm also an oc x canon shipper, but i actually like to see what personalities fit with the canon character and see if the ship i want balances out perfectly. if it doesn't then i'll pretty much try again, iF IT STILL DOESN'T- then i'll just.. change up the character.
and the art style kinda reminds me of my art style since i'm not so good with keeping equal eye levels and i'm also not good with keeping proportions equal either but hey, what can ya do?

She actually had a reason for having transparent hair. She has water powers and her hair was made of water (and I made her before lapis lazuli from su appeared so hush) and she could manipulate water (and spawn it) nd had water wings. I had the same oc but with fire powers. Hhhh

When OCs predicted future cannon characters
There is nothing wrong with a character redesign. Even if you redesign your character a shit ton, it only means you are experimenting and figuring out what you want your character to look like and be. This goes for personality, backstory, and physical appearance. I know my oc April went through MANY redesigns in her physical look and backstory, although her personality has mostly stayed intact.
However, if you are writing a story about them or drawing/animating a comic or series, it’s best to keep the design you started with. Keep the character’s personality consistent until a major plot point changes it. This can also go for looks as well, such as loosing an eye or dying their hair in the middle of the story.

It’s because most of these points don’t even need to be only pointed at Sashely. They can be pointed at the whole Animation Meme Community. Plus when she only brings up one picture that isn’t “important” and starts picking out flaws, she doesn’t word it in a way where it has to go with most of Sashely’s art. If that was the only picture ( in which we can assume since the title card says “This one picture”), then it seems that way. @@sakura_bliss854 It was relevant, the anatomy is off and it spent justify her work. Plus "it's the whole meme community" doesn't help because people wouldn't even think to consider themself, they like to think it is other people and don't take it into consideration. So taking criticism that directs to them would help them more. Plus if she put it in video she'd sound more understandable rather than text because people LOVE to take things out of context.
