The only way to prove it would, ironically, be to kill someone again in a VERY convoluted way that nobody could guess and tell L exactly how it was going to happen. But then you have to somehow ensure that Ryuk never gets his Death Note back because he would kill Light in an instant for ruining his fun and then do god knows what else with it. Not to mention, how the hell do you get the courts to handle this case let alone believe it in the first place? Confessing might be the only way that Light could have lived the rest of his life (almost) carefree.
I mean considering L has used death row inmates as bait before I don't think he would have a problem with them being used as evidence that Light is Kira. Light could've kept a small piece of paper from the death note which they would burn upon proving his guilt.

Imagine being a judge and the prosecutor says: the person on the other side kills people by writing names in a notebook. L would take it as Kira mocking him by literally showing L his hand, and then winning anyway, and killing an innocent investigator in the process after making him suspect the guy for months.

This is literally the thought process I had about Death Note, it shows a glaring issue with the writing because L is an explicitly lateral thinker. Whether or not he likes it, simple things do not make sense to L because he learned that everything is more complex than it looks. If Light turned himself in he probably would get off scot free, especially because you could interpret Light's behaviour towards L as a desire to have a friend, since Light clearly spends all his time alone and is isolated.
