Your daughter has such a good heart, I was actually kinda moved by her. When you first even suggested scrapping it she said "are you insane???" lol
It's more than just a bowl for her. It's something that symbolizes your trip together and the memories you guys made. It literally does not matter how it looks, it will always be amazing in her eyes.
Personally, I think it does look pretty unique and cool.
Great job, Andy.
That carving is simple and beautiful. I totally see what your loving daughter saw on it.
that bowl looks amazing!!! It complements the camper real well. Both are old and have been through a lot. Yet with a little elbow grease and time they can turn into something beautiful!
Always trust the little one's. Their heart is pure. Love the video. Looking forward to the little teaser in the video. As always, thank you for the inspiration.
That was really amazing Samantha! Thanks for showing it to us..
Cool bowl andy! The girls are always right. Nice job on keeping ten fingers.
Best part was your daughter supporting you. You've clearly raised them well, many congratulations. The bowls not that bad either!
I'm a woodturner (I'd have thrown it on the lathe because I wouldn't have the patience for all that hand carving). Most woodturners I know really value the less "normal" woods and shapes. We don't like straight grain all that much and we love turning a bowl while the wood is green and then letting nature warp it as it dries. Bowls like this resonate with people like me BECAUSE they're so unique. Your daughter is right... burning that would be insane.
Now I'm thinking I need to find some driftwood to turn...
Lovely! Now make a few spoons!
I think this piece is awesome. Maybe even one of my favourites of yours, even compared to all the high-end furniture. It has soul.
Andy that almost looks like cholla wood , your pause at the bandsaw was like " where do I go from here ?" I think the bowl turned out great for a souvenir 👍
Absolutely beautiful!!! From a piece of driftwood to a work of art!!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Lol, the classic "can we paint it?" question.
I think you’ve turned that piece of driftwood into an awesome little bowl. Lot of character in it. The only thing I ever did with Texas beach driftwood was turn it into a bonfire to sit and drink beer around! Well done.
Best looking camper on that beach!
Nah, it looks amazing, Andy! 😃
Fantastic work!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I like the grain of that driftwood. There’s a family memory behind that oddly shaped handcarved bowl. Cherish it! Really Hope to see that much anticipated complete Argosy Full length time lapse video ❤
Awesome 😎
Nice addition for the camper.
Fantastic work as always. Well done Andy!!
Looks good!
I was cringing seeing sharp tools hitting sand-impregnated wood...LOL!
I’m in Port A with my girlfriend’s family right now for roughly a month long vacation!
Looks great the memories are what makes it so priceless
Love this type of video! Keep them coming👍
I also think it's really nice, Andy. Nothing wrong with the form at all. I'm glad you decided to keep it.
Bill
Very nice! Love the shape. Your daughter has excellent taste.
Andy keep up the work and Happy 4th of July to you and your
yeah was gonna say, that would make a great catch-all for the trailer
I always enjoy your videos.
We love Port Aransas, brought a piece of driftwood back for the wife's flower bed?
I really liked the way it turned out. I wasn’t sure in the beginning but was pleasantly surprised at the end. Keep up the interesting work! SEMPER FI
Love the bowl, but not sure about the 'tempting fate' t-shirt!! How was the driftwood to carve, has being immersed in saltwater kept it like greenwood or is it more like seasoned timber?
Thought for sure it was going to be a "mortar & pestle". Great job!
I really wish the your daughter June was my inner voice instead of the mean spirited grumpy old dyslexic man I have now. You are one lucky man. Great work btw.
It looks awesome, looks like a cracked
dinosaur egg.
Any idea what kind of wood that is?
I think it’s going to grow on you over time. The memory and experience of it. Your interaction with your daughter. What to do with the rest of the wood?
Very cool.kudos.👍👍👍😎😎😎
You are truly blessed to have such a sweet loving family. God bless.
Now I see an arc in the future of some of the rest of the drift wood....June knows how to play daddy..;)
I second the boomerang idea.
Sometimes the projects are what they are when you just wing it. Fun view. Also my daughters name is june!
"Jumped in the truck and headed for Kansas
Morning found me in Port Aranas
Sippin' on rum
In that warm Texas sun"
I think it's a neat bowl. Good for keys and change and that stuff.
driftwood
Your daughter has the right idea - but not spray paint! Tell you what. Get a can of spray varnish and let HER spray it and let HER watch the grain pop up! Its LOVELY!
Be a good dip bowl.
I agree with your daughter, except for the spray paint. I think the bowl turned out to be beautiful.
Ah, a nice place for the M&M's to crib out ... before their vanishing trick. Only for small groups though ... sad.
Nice bowl! Thanks for the video!
very cool. glad she knows about the bible.
That wood is called driftwood from a driftwood tree obviously
You’re halfway to a guacamole making kit.
A pointless project that turns out about half as nice as you wanted...it's what we do. It's perfect for the Argosy or for your daughter's room. I have some Koa belt hangers that no one ever sees...
If only you had a lathe.
Looks far better having been worked by hand tools than it would have been if turned on a lathe. Way more character! SEMPER FI
@@jeramiahshastid6041 The main advantage of hand tools is you're not committed to a round shape. He chose to make it round, and he has a lathe. I've turned plenty of natural edge bowls and hand-carved a few, too.
@@davidshaper5146 I’ve been woodworking for more than 50 years. I was just replying to your comment which seemed to suggest the bowl would have been better with a lathe. I disagreed with that assumption.
@@jeramiahshastid6041 That's cool. Now, excuse me while I turn some wood!
