I personally disagree with the whole toys thing, don't get me wrong, I'm a big New Gen-apologist, but I'm glad that all Blazar has is a base form, an armor-like upgrade and new moves, nothing more and nothing less. I don't mind the new kaiju either, in fact it's welcome as it's refreshing to have new faces nowadays.
@@arnoldtan5558 Lol I just finished this and I was happy seeing older Kaiju who hasn't had a spotlight in a long while returning in this. Especially seeing an ultra Q monster, especially the ultra Q monster giving him an ability that's my favorite alongside the armor.
I’m gonna be real… After Trigger and Decker, I was feeling burnt out on the reliance of older material and lukewarm safeness that doesn’t push for their potential. So in my opinion, Blazar is what the ultra series needed. To prove to me that Ultraman can still succeed with a complacent setting and general episodic formula while still reaching towards the future in order to firmly establish an identity of its very own. I don’t think I have ever been this excited for an Ultraman show in a long time. From the natural chemistry within the main cast, to the ominous mystery of the main story, to seeing brand new Kaiju unique to the series, to Blazar himself and how molds elements from previous new gen ultras and even previous legend ultras into such an interesting character, I was hooked on throughout the entire show and constantly wanted more. Of course, I’m not saying Blazar is perfect. It did feel as though the show was kind of fighting between giving focus to the V99 plotline and an entertaining slice of life story, which in turn made the build up to the climax of the show a little bit weak in my opinion. Plus, while I personally don’t mind the gimmick nature of the modern shows, the moments that it does fixate on the gimmick come across as rather jarring in which you can definitely tell where Bandai and the higher ups had interjected. But those are just a bunch of nitpicks because past that, Blazar was one of the best shows I’ve seen in years from this franchise. It may be too early to say it, and I’m fully aware of recency bias, but I think this may have trumped Geed as the best entry in the New Generation Series. It’s something I’m so glad we got and I’m even more glad that this is what we got and not a New Generation Gaia.
Agreed. I honestly haven't cared for any of the prior New Generation entries (even the ones most consider "good"); they all suffer from a laundry list of the same problems: reliance on fusions with past Ultras (and by extension, reliance on past series in general), pushing the toy gimmicks front and center, only having a few new kaiju while trotting out the same exact gallery of old ones show after show (way to make Gomora and Zetton boring), human characters acting like goofy cartoon characters with humor that (for me, anyway) largely doesn't land and clashes with the serious parts of the tone, etc. Even Ultraman Z, which people seem to eat up and praise endlessly, did nothing to address those issues. Blazar is far from perfect, but goddamn is it a breath of fresh air for the franchise.
Ultraman Blazar’s main theme is that it’s better to understand others, rather than annihilate them out of fear. Varallon only exists because Yu Dobashi & the aliens chose destruction out of fear. Meanwhile, Gento & Blazar represent understanding each other. They only merge because their goals are unified, they only gain the tilsonite sword when they understand each other, & by the end of the show, despite being an alien, Blazar has become Gento’s comrade.
Blazar was awesome. I love how ACTUALLY ALIEN he feels in comparison to the Next Gen Ultramen before him. His struggle with Gento for control was one of my more favorite low-key parts of the story.
5:45 Watching new kaiju is always one of the main attractions of Ultra shows. Ultraman kaiju are beloved to the point where they have their own games. Unlike Showa & Heisei, NewGen Ultra shows didn't have many new kaiju due to budgetary reasons. It's cheaper to make Ultraman forms (that can be used repeatedly) than making a new kaiju suit that only appear in 1-2 episodes. Also, new hero forms & new handheld weapons are more Sentai & Rider thing. Ultraman merch is more about action figures, morphers & the vehicular toys.
Honestly just keeping blazar in his just base form is big step up for me in my opinion bc lately we've been getting a lot of ultraman series that has too many form don't get me wrong i love ultraman forms but it's just your same old standard ultraman with a bunch of forms that would get bored quickly for me again my opinion but when this series just keep blazar just in a base form and getting weapons rather than forms it's refreshing to me to like the early showa ultraman no power up forms only new weapons and new skill and that's pretty cool
I really wish we got more from the family aspect of the show, and the V99 aliens, but overall, this was a very unique and amazing Ultraman season. I've seen every ultraman season and this one takes the no.9 spot for my top 10. And yes, i do like this kind of video
When i found out that the last episode had alot of cut content it made sense why the ending was rushed and bad passing. Its only 25 episodes, theres no need for a recap episode
It's definetly a breath of fresh air from an ultra series perspective, personally i really enjoyed it. Some episodes are just meh but the good REALLY outweights the meh. Its a 9/10 series for me!
I feel like what this whole series is, is basically Taguchi proving Tsuburaya wrong that the old simple way is not dead yet, that they don't have to go too big on the gimmicks just to appeal to the newer fans. I always like it when an episode from any Ultra series just showcases heavily on character driven stories, while sprinkling a little bit of lore leading up to the finale, and Ultraman Blazar had many of those with the members of SkARD team and V99. Instead of, you know, doing unnecessary guest Ultraman appearances that almost always stealing the spotlight. I hope Tsuburaya keep this is trend up for the rest of Reiwa series.
I think it's less Taguchi proving Tsuburaya that "old is gold", but more of an indication of how much Tsuburaya-Fields trust the people helming this franchise. Blazar obviously tried to be like Shin Ultraman, and instead of fretting about toy sales, rather than repeating the same mistake with Trigger, the execs saw Taguchi's plans and said "let him cook."
To me, ultraman blazar really set back to the early days of ultraman, where the toys aren't too overwhelming with ultraman forms and give kids more monsters to play with. is quite refreshing. also we get to see ultaman blazar being an actual creature from humans pov by not having him talking giving this realistic look on ultraman being the nature as the monsters. we have a nice mature protagonist that is finally not a twink but also have some wholesome moments sprinkled here and there. Overall fights where we have blazar that is just basically an ultraman caveman is so charming and a lot of fun just how he screams and his gestures is so cute. ultraman blazar is honestly a really good show. I'm sad to see it go but this also gives me hope as to tsuburaya maybe starting to get even better with the future ultramen.
Ultraman Blazar finale was honestly one of the best finale in Ultraman I’ve ever seen in a long time but I do have one problem. The episodes feels really rushed and we really don’t really don’t get to see much from V99. It was only after the episode ended that I found out that this episode was supposed to be 1 hour and 30 minutes long but it was cut down to 30 minutes because of their time slot which explains a lot. #ReleasetheTaguchicut Edit: I do have one other small issue. It was said that Blazar is a legend among astronauts but they don’t really expand on that and how he became a legend.
I can see your reasoning for more toys for the Ultra, it does make more sense for a company to give more toys to the hero rather than the monsters that get destroyed in one episode in their first appearance. I can totally get the more toys to hero than monsters. For older fans however, it's more of a breath of fresh air because if you try to watch the whole new gen series, they keep bringing back monsters or redesgining them from the showa and hesei era to be used as filler for the episodes. I think having different monsters mostly every episode makes them more unique. Not saying that the old monster suits are bad, but I feel like minimizing the use of them is better so when they ARE used it feels more special seeing an old kaiju.
I think as a kid I would have really appreciated having a bunch of bad guys, which I think is probably the thought process behind having a bunch of kaiju toys. Because I remember when I was a kid, I’d sometimes have trouble getting guys for main characters from like Ben ten to fight. Ultraman is great, but he needs guys to actually fight ya know?
is it implied that those ships were people from the land of light(a rebooted version of them) and V99 that crash in 1999 was actually ultraman blazar ship? i kind of wish the toys were released in American to push the american audience
I really wish we would go back to the Ultramen hosts, and the Ultraman themselves talking to each other in the green screen room, just without the over abundance of forms.
I personally disagree with the whole "giving Blazar/main titular Ultraman more forms" and "spending the budget more on Ultraman than the monsters" because: 1. Blazar was suppose to be a return to form of the franchise, meaning less focus on toys more focus on original monsters. 2. Them making original monsters did help Tsuburaya with the toy sales. On the Ultraman Reddit, you can see Tsuburaya earning more money during 2023 despite the fact Blazar doesn't focus much on the toys/gave Blazar a form which proves that you don't need to make toys/forms for the titular character to use to make money, you just need to make a good series with loveable characters. Anyway, still a really good video and I agree with most of your opinions ❤.
I've noticed something from the way Blazar's series getting consistent views from 400.000-500.000 and sometimes more even for the past episodes. I think it reinforces my idea that people are going back to watch past episodes.
I definitely am. A hallmark of a good episodic series is one where people will claim favourites and revisit individual stories on their own, just like Tiga and Ultraseven.
About that toy thing, it's actually kinda weird that after all the new gen and reiwa toys there are out there, Blazar's brace is the only one i actually thought about buying and i don't know why. I guess when pretty lights me go yes.
Blazar was great, Z is still my fave (so far). I really liked how Earth Garon looks like something that could be built and function IRL, even if it's ineffective. Compare it to Sevenger, which is goofy looking but could hold its own against kaijus. Overall, I feel like Blazar was very "centered": The science team was militarized, aliens would act either like animals or VERY above our development level, and each character had their own priorities.
I agree with a lot that you said, but seeing as I've only really seen newer ultra seasons I prefer having more forms. I do like Blazar as a season though.
If i may be so bold as ro say while the show's are named after Ultraman, the kaiju are the true stars of the series, they are what offers the series its longevity, as the Ultramen are usually flat characters who affect the arcs of the hosts and the reat of the cast. That is to say, new kaiju yes please, Ultraman is Ultraman, so it cool that he doesnt need new forms all the time. The whole form changes was an idea by Bandai all the was back with Tiga anyway, thatbis to say its cute for marketing but not essential.
That's the thing about Ultraman toys, the advent of tokusatsu toys have to be weapons or henshin is very very new, as in last decade and a half. With Ultraman, the big toy gimmick moneymaker was mainly in the attack teams, the other toys existed and did well but that was the big one that sold like crazy. They'd sell their vehicles, weapons, uniforms, and that would be where a lot of the toy gimmick money came from, it's only really Ginga onwards where that became discaded and the idea of "tokusatsu gimmick toy" became near solely henshin item and hero weapon. Blazar doesn't really have vehicles for it's team other than Earthgaron and Mopy, and I don't think Mopy has a toy? so they can't really bank off the plane, and tank, and car sales like say Gaia would, so Blazar's toy emptiness for you may come from that Also completely unrelated to that but I was a big kaiju and monster kid who didn't really like superheroes, except for Ultraman but that was because he didn't really feel like a superhero, so when I was a kid I'd be way more interested in a new kaiju toy than new hero toy, but that's just me. Just to say that a lot of kids would really like more kaiju toys.
I started with new gen too and Geed is one of my favorite toku of all time but I think the decision to focus their budget on new kaiju was correct, I've been very tired of "omg look guys its gomora and eleking", the new Kaiju are all fantastic.
I really hope we go back to the green screen room styled Ultraman shows where it when the main character transforms into Ultraman, there’s this green screen room with the background of the rise sequence, and then you have the suit for that Ultraman, talking to our main character in addition to the robots with for forms. Kind of a combination of Ultraman Z and Ultraman Blazar. Maybe Ultraman Ark will do that, I don’t know, but I hope it does.
You know, after 5 seasons go. I think the Reiwa era of Ultraman has been kinda hit or miss so far. Like this era pretty much had a rough start with Taiga where it end up being one of most forgettable seasons out there (Pirika & Tregear carried the whole show). And then it followed by Z, which suprisingly end up being one of if not the best New Generation seasons out there. After that it followed by Trigger where as far TDG tributes goes, it did a good job dissapointing Tiga fans across the World. Then it followed by Decker where despite being a massive improvement than Trigger where it fixed a lot of it's flaw, it end up being that one season that you either love it or hate it depend on how your POV. And finally we get to Blazar, where as far a quality goes while it's not perfect, it's a solid start towards a new direction & I love gow Tsuburaya decided to do something new with the franchise after almost a decade going saves with the whole New Generation stuff so far. Hopefully Ultraman Arc end up being good. So if i gonna rank every Reiwa season from best to worst, it will be like this: 1. Ultraman Z (9,4/10) 2. Ultraman Blazar (9,1/10) 3. Honestly. I feel Decker did WAY better than Ultraman Trigger! As that Season, while it did have More Throwback Monsters, also had the Sphere Monster Enhanced Forms! That and the Last Two Episodes were genuinely Powerful Moments with the Final Boss Monster!

I disagree on the Ultraman forms. I prefer theu invest the budget on sets and monsters. I'm tire we get a new toy or a new form every episodie in toku series like Sentai or Kamen Rider. It's annoying and makes no since.
I personally disagree with the whole toys thing, don't get me wrong, I'm a big New Gen-apologist, but I'm glad that all Blazar has is a base form, an armor-like upgrade and new moves, nothing more and nothing less. VERY NICE REVIEW AND EFFORT......I HOPE YOU MAKE A SEASON REVIEW OF KAMEN RIDER BLACKSUN
Ultraman Blazer Is Awesome
I wish we had ultraman stuff and merchandise in the USA

I’m not a fan of ultra man but this review makes me want to at least watch episode 1 on UA-cam and the fact it’s so short night make ir a good watch
I wish we had ultraman stuff in the USA

But we getting new ultraman animated on Netflix
i think gento is the one in control most of the time but he's kind of blended with blazar so he gets primitivied
It is so Cool 😎
Ultraman potential please!!! it would be so cool
I really hope we go back to the green screen room styled Ultraman shows where it when the main character transforms into Ultraman, there’s this green screen room with the background of the rise sequence, and then you have the suit for that Ultraman, talking to our main character in addition to the robots with for forms. KingOhger catching strays everywhere 😤

❤ those who know they know.
Also, finish Z!
I did!! I just never reviewed it
6:11 i think you would not like the showa ultraman

I disagree on the Ultraman forms. I prefer theu invest the budget on sets and monsters. I'm tire we get a new toy or a new form every episodie in toku series like Sentai or Kamen Rider. It's annoying and makes no since.
