This is surely one of the most amazing places Gimbal Walk TV has ever filmed with it's stunning gardens, buildings, beach and buildings! Come with me for a full tour of Portmeirion (usually misspelt as Portmerion)
TOLL & WELCOME AREA
The Toll & Welcome Area is home to the Main Toll Gate entrance to the village, as well as the coach car park, Welcome Centre and public toilets.
CLIFFTOP & CHANTRY ROW
Clifftop & Chantry Row offers spectacular views of the Estuary. Guests can walk down to the Clifftop Rotunda, or Grotto, featuring sweeping views across the Estuary.
BATTERY SQUARE & CAMPANILE
The Mermaid Spa is located in Battery Square. Battery Square is home to The Round House, which was the fictional home of Number 6 in the TV series The Prisoner. The Campanile Bell Tower is the focal feature of Battery Square.
CENTRAL PIAZZA
No Italian village is complete without a central piazza. The Central Piazza at Portmeirion features a fountain pool, Gloriette, Gothic Pavilion, the Bristol Colonnade and the giant chessboard.
SALUTATION SQUARE
In Salutation Square, guests will find the Triumphal Arch and The Ship Shop. Some of the best views of the village can be enjoyed from Salutation Square.
TOWN HALL
The historic Hercules Hall is located in this part of the village. Hercules Hall is an Arts-and-Crafts style village hall.
THE HOTEL & QUAYSIDE
Explore the Coastal Path, Estuary, Amis Reunis, the Observatory Tower and the Casino at The Hotel & Quayside.
Y GWYLLT WOODLANDS
From the Triumphal Arch in Salutation Square, there are two main paths into Y Gwyllt Woodlands.
CASTELL DEUDRAETH
Removed from the main village, Castell Deudraeth stands proudly on the main drive in and out of the village.
Portmeirion was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village. Portmeirion village is located in the community of Penrhyndeudraeth, on the estuary of the River Dwyryd, 2 miles south east of Porthmadog, and 1 mile from Minffordd railway station. Portmeirion has served as the location for numerous films and television shows, most famously as "The Village" in the 1960s television show The Prisoner starring Patrick McGhoohan
Portmeirion was created by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis from 1925 to 1976 to show how a naturally beautiful site could be developed without spoiling it. Portmeirion village and gardens is one of Wales' premier visitor attractions, welcoming over 200,000 visitors every year.
It is a taste of the Italian Riviera whilst being a stone's throw away from the Welsh coastline. It truly is the jewel in North Wales' crown!
Portmerion was built in imitation of a rustic Italian village, to demonstrate how a naturally beautiful place could be developed without spoiling it. Sitting at the feet of Snowdonia it makes for a charming dislocation that is truly unique. Portmeirion's place in popular culture has been set in stone as a result.
Sir Clough Williams-Ellis designed Portmeirion on the town of Portofino in tribute to the atmosphere of the Mediterranean. The town that sits at the edge of its own Snowdonian peninsula incorporates fragments from several pre-existing buildings, assembling them in a post-modern bricolage. The ironic sense nostalgia and pastiche that emanates from Portmeirion has been a key element of its architectural legacy.
The iconic sixties spy drama, The Prisoner, led to an avalanche of programmes using Portmeirion as a setting.
Previously the village had entertained Frank Lloyd Wright, Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman, making Portmeirion undoubtedly the jewel in the glittering crown of Snowdonia.

I sit in bed in the early morning and go on these wonderful journeys, that I would never see if it was not for you and your camera. God Bless you and thank you, I love them.
I really like the way you film and it is more like a walking documentary. So many other people have to show their big faces in half the footage while they talk blah, blah, blah. This is just pure scenery.
Thank you
If you saw my face you'd also understand why I never show it 🤣
I was lucky enough to get married here 4 yrs ago. Its an amazing place and its even better in an evening when everyone has gone and its just the hotel guests walking around.
As well as the hotel there are loads of rooms within the village buildings you can stay in
I am lucky enough to live 90 minutes drive from this wonderful micro village, and have visited 5 times. It truly is a fantastic place, and I find new things each time. Up until recently they also hosted a music festival - Festival #6 at the end of the season. I believe it got so popular, they had to stop it as the venue just isn't big enough for tens of thousands of people, but was lucky enough to see the amazing Welsh band Manic Street Preachers headline in 2013. A popular wedding venue, a great day out and 2 beautiful high class hotels, I thoroughly recommend a trip to Portmeirion if you're in North Wales
You so lucky living so near. I love the Manics and have seen them twice. Once at Barrowlands in Glasgow when Ritchie was still with them, then Edinburgh. Awesome!🤗👍
They charge 18 quid? For fake Italy? Nah
went there in 2022 for first time. Loved it
One Word ... "WOW "
Amazing place isn’t it
What a fantastic place Wales here I come
Great isn’t it!
Fabulous the jewel in the Crown really impressive its a must visit
Definitely
My uncle used to live in the house 0:42 seconds in. Great times with my brother in the early 70's cycling around the village when the tourists had gone home 🙂
Very cool! Bet that was great fun!
I love this and will definitely go this summer
Exceptional footage - so pleased to have found a no fuss, thoughtful insight into this incredible place and what fab weather! Thanks a million too for the last minute or so. Nice1
Thank you so much ❤️
My favourite village.
Beautiful
I am been there over 33 years ago from Rotherham newman school for the group and special our Disabilities people was go there arounds about it trip in Portmeirion Village, North Wales .I remember them I was go there to walking around about it lovely place then. later I watched tv show The Prisoner.
Excellent stuff - my wife really wants to go there but I really don't want my illusions shattered. I've been fascinated by the place since the late 60's.
It’s a very intriguing place
Lots of little hidden features too
I too have wanted to go for many years but as I walked around this week with my daughter, son in law and 13 year old grandson, it was so much more impressive to explore and experience it in person. I desperately want to go back soon to look at all the little things I missed this time! Don't delay - go as soon as possible!
Yes Sir thank you so much for this video I've been there twice but I forgot how beautiful it really is its a unique place almost hard to believe it was talk designed and built by one man and what a genius he was bringing joy to all who visit very well done sir, an excellent video will look for more of your videos.
Wow...just imagine how wonderful it would be to live there
Just horrible I'd imagine, with tourists gawping at you and your property all day..
If you like nosey people like me 🤣🤣
P.s the person who built it also built a lovely house and gardens not too far from there where he lived, found it last time I went to port Merrion.
It was delightful , well worth a visit. Xx
Will have a nosey next time I'm there!
Thank you for the video went there years ago but it looks like we missed so much have to try and go again
You should!
Loved the Prisoner..but i was very young at the time..i don't actually think anyone understood it but was fasinating
It seems a bit bizarre to me - maybe like a piece of art
Even though my wife and I are going to Portmeirion this week and I have been before, you have given us an insight as what to see.
Thank you very much. We thoroughly enjoyed your video.
Thank you Roy!
Have a really great time!
I wonder how many people have release a big white balloon to drift across the beach. Could be good fun 😃
ha ha yes!!
Great video again - and Portmeirion looking even more Italianate in the incredible light.
Thanks Peter
Have a great weekend 👍👍❤️
Just beautiful, I’ve not been here for years, I must go back. Beautiful weather makes it extra stunning
It really is!
Beautiful
Very
What a lovely place and a lovely walk, thank you.
Thank you too
Brilliant video, we were going to visit on the way home from Butlins but didn’t have the time. What a beautiful place, glad we have finally visited through your UA-cam channel. Thank you.
Many thanks for posting
You're welcome
@@GimbalWalkTV Hope you don't mind but have reposted on my Portmeirion FB pages facebook.com/groups/1662135960687111/?ref=share_group_link

looks good , never been i will put on my bucket list, thanks.
👍👍👍❤️
Alwayswanted to go thank you
You’re welcome 😊
What a great video ,thank you would not be up to that kind of walk so this has been smashing . I was so impressed by the well tender garden areas and tip top paint work every where so fresh . Also looked to be litter free. Thank you ⭐️
You are Number One Gimbal Walk TV, be seeing you...
Thanks John!
Having never been Portmeirion myself, just seen pictures and on the prisoner, I was pleased that you went there, and what an amazing place it is. You’ve been to some lovely places but this has to be the most stunning place for me. The scenery is just breathtaking. Who needs to go abroad. 11/10 for this one. Thanks so much, will have to watch it again.
I think it’s the best place I’ve ever filmed ❤️❤️
I think I’d agree with you there. You definitely did it justice.
What a truly magical place this is didn’t want it to end loved every minute of it so keep on walking 🚶🏻👍❤️
You should go one day!
Hello. I would very much like to purchase a copy of this raw video (without the music or captions). Portmeirion is my favourite place on earth, and living in Canada, I miss it every single day. Five minutes in, and I can barely see through the tears! The unique sound of the village tugs at my heartstrings, and I would love to be able to immerse myself in the original, raw footage. I plan to visit soon with my Insta360 EVO to do a full VR walkthrough, but until then I would be most grateful if you were able to help me out. Thanks, and what a stunning job you have done on what was a beautiful day to visit the village. -Andrew, "that talking dog guy"
Hi there - thanks very much I really appreciate that a lot
I"ll be publishing another one soon (in the other direction) without music or captions so stay tuned!
Ps - how are you getting on with your 360 camera? I have the Insta360 but don't use it as much as I should really
@@GimbalWalkTV Oh wow, that is fantastic news. Thanks so much, I look forward to it. I just discovered you did a Porthmadog walkthrough too! We always take a shuttle to Porthmadog for an afternoon when we stay at Portmeirion. I know what I'm watching this afternoon! I should also be using my Insta360 more. It shoots the most incredible VR I've seen to date, and I've enjoyed immortalizing experiences with our pets, etc. Just haven't had a chance to travel with it since the COVID situation began. Hoping so much to take it to Wales soon! Keep up the amazing work. I will be watching more of your tours for sure
@@ThatTalkingDogGuy thank you very much 👍
There is a new Insta360 camera out now that’s even more powerful so im doing my best not to get tempted to spend on it 🤣🤣
Wow!! Stunning video tour, you were so lucky with the weather! No one actually lives in the little houses - they are all either hotel rooms, or self-catering cottages that you can stay in! My favourite place to stay is the Castell, situated just before you enter the village. Check it out! X ❤❤
Went once. What an amazing place. Thanks once again for a lovely tour.❤
My pleasure 😊
This is one of my favourite places in the world. It’s funny you should mention heaven. Up the coast in Penychain is Haven’s Hafan Y Mor. Translated into English, it’s Heaven by the Sea. You may recognise it by its former reincarnation, Butlins Pwllheli.
We last went 2 years ago, on a day like yours, bright and sunny. As an amateur photographer, my husband had a whale of a time trying his digital SLR out properly, his photos are amazing. The colours inspire me as a card maker. The most beautiful feeling is the sense of peace.
When we went in Easter 2012 I started my portmeirion collection with a teapot. Now I have the full set, and it makes me smile when we use it. If money were no limit, I would love to renew our wedding vows on the beach outside the hotel, with a big white ball.
That sounds like a plan
Keep buying those lottery tickets and cross your fingers and hopefully you get the luck. 👍👍❤️
gallerde bir köy guzel ve temiz evlerin yapısı daha farklı dış boyaları rengarenk emegınıze sağlık teşekkürler turkıyeden sevgıler😀
This is the best place by far .Super video
Thank you Frank!
Beautiful place, beautiful setting. I would really love to see interior shots of some of the buildings. Hopefully they are not dark, damp hollow shells like a Hollywood film set. I would also love to see some shots, looking back from the beach and perhaps from across the Bay.
Perhaps next time?
Next time!
A grand day out !
Oh yes
ventnor botanical gardens is also an interesting visit, lost gardens of heligon if your into botany, theres more places than you could image if you look
Thank you!! This video of Portmerion is just fantastic. I actually feel like I am there.
Our pleasure!
Visited here at least 3 times and always spot something 'new'. This is a first class video, well done. Towards the end of the video at about 2 or 3 minutes from the end there is a white tower...I think that used to be a 'camera obscura' but not sure its there/open now. They used to put on spectacular fireworks shows years ago. And yes, I'm a Prisoner fan still.
Is this what Heavens like
Think so!
What an amazing place. Was there in June. We actually went to Barmouth for a weekend and one day travelled up to Porthmadog, and whilst having breakfast at a café I was browsing Google for things to do...and I said to my missus how about Portmerion? And I'm so glad we went. Yes it was a bit wet, but I didn't care, I just fell in love with the place. Thanks for sharing it sure brought great memories back
Thanks
Thank you so much!!!
Sorry I missed this at the time - UA-cam only just let me know!
Wow wonderful, I’m looking forward to visit it
amazing place to visit . but take your gold card . it isnt cheap . also portmadoc and black rock sands are great . i stay in porthmadoc regularly . so many places to visit if you are based there .
I was here yesterday its lovely place to visit 😍😍😍. Very nice proper pizza in italian restaurant and gelato ice cream was amazing
I went here yesterday its great and a brass band played for 2hrs in bandstand
Perfect!
This is truly amazing footage!. I went to Portmeirion back in 1978 age 20 as I enjoyed the prisoner series. Back then though, all of the buildings paint had faded and some looked a bit grubby. Nice to see that they have taken care of that now, which shows brilliantly in your tour. I took pictures with a Polaroid back then which also didn't help much. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you very much!
It would be nice if a more modern version of the Prisoner series was made there for TV. You certainly chose a lovely day for the walk.
Wow! This place is just plain stunning. Thank you for sharing, Hun :) x
You’re welcome x
Really nice to see. Thanks. I've been about 5 times. Loved it all. lots more to enjoy in the pet cemetery and the woodland walk back.
Great isnt' it!
Wonderful video. I loved watching The Prisoner when I was a child. I plan to visit this pla, someday. Thanks for posting.
O thst was lovely & just the right music x
Thank you 🙏
Very calm ( seemingly trouble free) n beautiful place Sir.
I hope this is truly a place where one can foster pleasant living to maximum by peaceful means.
Jussojuan
Another super video Neil. Many thanks to you. ……
Thank you Karen
Have a lovely weekend 👍👍❤️
Wonderful, wonderful place, been quite a few times, but will be going back, got many memories of taking mum and Dad they loved it!
Thank you so much for a fabulous video xx
Many thanks!
What a beautiful and unusual place...looks like someone travelled the world and bought back a piece of every culture..
Fascinating....thanks for video on this town 🌞
You’re welcome
Was such a great place to visit
WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE! And you hit on a lovely day! Although I think it would be just as magical with a covering of snow!! Such a calming atmosphere, even through a pc screen and music to match!! Calmest half hour I have had in a long time!! Thank you so much for posting!!
So pleased you visited Portmeirion. Went there a few years ago, an amazing place. Do they still have the road train to take you on a trip round the woodland walks, and the golf buggies to take you from top to bottom? For anyone unable to enjoy a walk like you. An amazing place, thank you again Neil. Please take care these next few very hot days, stay safe.🥵🤣🚶♂️
The road train was suspended because of covid restrictions, but I'm sure it will be up and running now. The golf buggies are still in operation.
Thanks Sandra!
I visited last week and was told that the land train has stopped running...possibly for good. I can't guarantee this though..
So beautiful ❤
Oh yes
Thanks for this fantastic video, don't get out as much as I used to so it's so your videos are a real treat. The place today is breathtaking. I remember watching the prisoner (at the time did not understand it) but when I grew up I did. Thanks one again.
Glad you enjoyed it - thank YOU for watching my channel!
I’ve been there a few times, if you are planning a visit be aware that only assistance dogs are allowed in Portmeirion.
FInd the excellent XTC track "The Man who sailed around his Soul" filmed at Portmeirion... on sergeant's channel
Lovely video, very busy by the look of it.......Be seeing you !!
Thank you! You too!
Oh thanks Mr Walk, just such a lovely walk around, and brought back so many memories - I remember there was a Penny Farthing (bicycle) outside No 6, I have a photo of me trying to get on it !! Many moons ago, now. Didn't see and golf buggies, which were there when I went. Also we never paid to go in - I think it was closed cos I don't remember seeing anyone else there !! But I do remember that sandy beach where No 6 drove his car (a Morgan??) along it !! Thanks again, Mr Walk - keep em coming !! ✔💯👍🤩
Thank you Jo!
A visit with no one else there sounds strange!
The car was a Lotus 7
@@richardcrocker539 Oh yes, thanks !! Wasn't sure about it being a Morgan, but I love the look of those - my all time, never been beaten, fave car is an E-Type Jag 💯✔💟
Great walk !! Prisoner was one of my favorite shows back in the day 😂😂😂😂👍👍👍
I’ve never seen it! 😮😮
Hi have been a couple of times , but like Sophie on a coach trip and not a lot of time to spend, so your fantastic camera and the operator NEIL! Did a fabulous job. Many thanks.
Thank you SO SO much for that Brian
You’ve made my weekend
Have a lovely weekend 👍👍❤️
Hi, thank you for this film. I am going in two weeks. I hope I get the same weather as you. Best wishes GarryUK
Super walk … ❤❤❤
Thank you
Please next time come to northamtonshire the place of princess Diana ,also Devon.
Av you heard of port sunlight it an old museum, the Wirral Merseyside
I have yes but not been there yet
Neal, I’m trying to catch up on some of your earlier walks. This one is so lovely! Was that Rebecca I spotted? She looks so much like my sister in law.
❤❤
👍👍👍
Their pottery is made in stoke on Trent , not sure if it’s still there
It certainly looks fantastic on a hot sunny day and blue sky. It's a shame the camera obscurer is locked up, that was always fun to play with.
I am lucky enough to live a few miles away and to have never visited Portmeirion. :-P
You should!
This looks amazing 😻
Oh yes
Oh yes
WOW and more WOW, probably your best video ever helped by the colourful location and sunny weather.
If you can put out such stunning video on You Tube why can’t the T.V. channels with millions of pounds at their disposal still only let me have Virgin Media Ultra and B. T. Sport U.H.D.?
Years ago we went on a trip round Cheltenham, Tenby and Bangor, we arrives at Portmeirion 30 minutes before it closed so sadly decided not to visit.
Unfortunately two life changing road accidents and 75 years mean a wander around this village with its steps, slopes and lots of walking is now out of the question, your video has in some small way let me see what I missed all those years ago, for that many thanks.
P. S., I’ve watched The Prisoner at least 4 times and still haven’t a clue what it was about :-)
Ha ha same!
"I AM not a number..I AM a free man!"
🤣🤣🤣
'Where am I?'
'In the Village.'
ha ha yes!
KKHHHAAANNN!!!
Thank you so much for this video, I have visited so many times, but loved seeing it again.
Thank you x
Have a lovely weekend 👍👍❤️
Great to see Lord Buddha,s divine figure ( great teacher of egoless living) in UK. Jussojuan

Thanks Theo
Have a lovely weekend 👍👍❤️
@@GimbalWalkTV Appreciate that sir!
Where the video ended if you carry on there is woods to explore. Our son in law proposed to our daughter in the Chinese Garden. ❤️❤️❤️
Lovely!
What a place eh!
@@GimbalWalkTV It was, we love it there, has visited so many times. Thanks for great video 👍👍👍👍
Hi
How much was it to visit
Thank you
Seems there's a lot of people from Italy and Greece visiting
We went on a coach trip not enough time to see everything
You should nip back!
amazing place, been a couple of times. Question, is it now free to enter?, paid something like £12 each last time.
I paid £17 but you can get in free if you’re a hotel guest etc
2022 price is £17 for adults
@@GimbalWalkTV Hi!, I've noticed on the website you book in time slots, just wondering if you have a limited time there or once you are in you can stay all day? many thanks. .P.S. can you just turn up & pay 'on the door'?
@@blahblahblah742 Yeah you can pay on the door if you want (I did) and can spend as long as you want there
@@GimbalWalkTV Thanks for your reply, Ill be visiting this week, great video by the way!
Do you need book your tickets in advance or you can buy them on arrival.
You can pay on the day but best bet is to just nip onto the internet before you go and buy your tickets
So beautiful but whoever thought up the paint colour went a bit far, it looks like a Rubik’s cube , should be all painted terracotta color
Much of it looks newly painted and this ruins the effect. When it's weathered it will look better.
@@tabitha4135 You clearly know nothing about the place. It's not supposed to look like Smurf Village and the colours and textures are supposed to look natural, rustic and in keeping with the age of the buildings. You see this in many parts of the video and even some places where this has been done artificially. Clough Williams-Ellis designed it as an Italianate village, have you ever seen one where everything looks brand new? In Venice there are strict laws to make sure any new repairs have to be made to look old and even these aren't allowed until deterioration begins to cause problems.
I have a question: Can anyone tell me the best way to get to the village from Liverpool without a car?
I would try either a coach trip if you can find one
Otherwise it's a lonnnnng journey - www.google.com/search?q=liverpool+to+portmeirion&rlz=1C5CHFA_enGB977GB977&oq=liverpool+to+portmei&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqBwgAEAAYgAQyBwgAEAAYgAQyBggBEEUYOTIICAIQABgWGB4yCggDEAAYhgMYigUyCggEEAAYhgMYigUyCggFEAAYhgMYigUyCggGEAAYhgMYigXSAQg0NjUyajBqN6gCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Where are we?... In The Village....
❤️❤️
Are ther any A roads to get ther as cant do motorways?
Yes it's pretty much all A roads there
If wales wasn’t in the description, I would’ve thought it was India.
It’s a very exotic looking place isn’t it!
Is it £17 each or for a car?
£17 each but you can park for free, whoopie.
@@maureentaphouse5206 we went in 2020 and I walk with a 4 wheeled walking frame. I walked all the way to the hotel, in weather like this. The walk back uphill was tough, but worth it.
Not cheap at all, and if theres a group of you, ouch for your wallet.
Each 👍
Plusn theres an Hotel there
Yeah - imagine staying there eh!
