5:34 I'm glad he acknowledges the clever setup of that scripted jumpscare because it does indeed lull the player into a multilayered false sense of security rather than just going "BOO! ZOMBIE DOGS!!"
I think Lisa's twist was pretty impactful, and it's really interesting how it's almost like a proto-mary style story. But it's definitely very sad in its own way.
I love how it's so up to interpretation. Was Lisa actually a part of Alessa's nightmare, but a pleasant memory of the one kind nurse who treated her after the failed insemination ritual? Was she real and just a normal person, who just eventually broke because of the nightmare and became a monster? Is she something completely different?
I know that there’s some bugs like cockroaches that can survive for quite some time after losing their heads, but the thing with the hollowed out beetle makes me uncomfortable.
Insects are basically little flesh robots powered by hydraulics and chemical relays. Much of their organs are more about continued survival than immediate survival. So, some can lose their entire digestive system or even their heads and keep going until they run out of energy, as long as the limbs are intact. Kind of like winding up a toy robot - the motion is mechanical, so even when you're not there to keep winding the gears, it will still run for a little while.
"Like, I get what's happening, but I, I can't plan it in advance. Brain's not working that way right now." I wish that wasn't one of the most relatable things I ever heard him say.
I've always felt that the PS1's janky, twitchy graphics really added to the spookiness. There's been attempts to emulate that anesthetic, but more often than not it just feels.... Fake? Forced? I don't know. There's something about this game that just hits differently in that regard.
That has to be one of my favourite streams in a while tbh, was really fun to watch live. I'm so happy Vin changed his mind about playing a Silent Hill game this year!
My favourite part of the Vinesauce streams is that both the full streams and the supercuts are extremely entertaining experiences both worth every second of them.
Vinny seemed to completely miss the drug subplot with Lisa. She was drug addicted with that psychogenic the doctor was making and forced to help the cult because of it. Can't fully blame him, they sort of drip feed you it but it's notable cause he picked up everything in SH2. Also, the final boss wasn't "God" was it? It was sort of...half cooked cause of the serum thrown at it. That's a clever way of handling it since "God" shouldn't be, ya know, bothered by bullets and all that. SH3 will be fun, hopefully Vinny retains the lore from this so it makes sense to him.
@@yousquiddingme I thought he only showed up at the end if you found the optional encounters? I remember I saved him from the monster but I thought that was the end of the sidequest and didn't do anything after that, only to get to the final sequence and realize I didn't do it right.
As dated as this game is, seeing the Incubus birthing itself out through Alessa's spine and burning Dahlia to death along with that fucked up noise track in the background is still as hair-rising today as it was the first time playing it.

Oh my God, Lisa's fate...I was pretty young when I first played Silent Hill, maybe around ten, and seeing her "die" like that (because she doesn't actually die...what happens to her is way worse), while being scared, lost, desperate, and without being able to do anything to stop it, made me feel so incredibly fucking sad and powerless...I remember wanting to save her, and finish the game with her so badly... Also, the way she realises what's about to happen to her in her final moments, I don't know...it just stuck to me. I mean, the horror stuff, I was capable of dealing with...but Lisa's presence and story was so out of touch compared to the rest of the game, that it caught me off guard, and hit me right in the feelings, back then. I'm not sure, but I even think that I cried; and if I didn't, well kudos to me, because I definitely remember being sad to the point of crying. Well played, Kojima; you sick bastard. Well played.

the fogginess definitely makes Silent Hill atmospheric and creepy. i wonder if a foggy horror game will ever be accepted today when we expect amazing graphics and huge worlds. It sounds cool to me if they could have a modern Silent Hill game with fog, except now it can have realistic ray traced lighting, physics, and realistic fog. The fog could swirl in the wind or when doors open/people & cars move. plus it can catch shadows and reflect light. It could be where the game starts out clear and gets foggier as it progresses, and the thickening fog causes crazier events to happen and monsters to come out.
