Plebs are pretty op.
Angus Rhodes I know man I killed nearly 10 units of Syrian armored elephants in one charge.
Plebs are the pidgeys of Total War.
ohhh the Iron E
Tbf, plebs have saved me a couple of times. When you just need meatshield their great.
ikr plebs are so tough
If you start as parthia, and end up taking over the closer patthavian city which is a blacksmith, and convert it to the armor bonus one and eventually get it to the rank 3 level... -_- Royal cataphracts max out the armor bar on the unit description. THEY ARE UNSTOPPABLE. I once charged a Royal Peltasts General with my unit rank 7 Cataphract General and in the initial charge killed 40 out of 120 units. They threw the javelins as I was charging in and didn't kill a single unit. The reason why I would put them as first, however, is because the fact that as a general unit they are the best. Your general is more mobile than most foot units (The weakness of the RC), You are more armored than most other units in the game, and if you have second wind you can use trample and diamond formation over and over again to demolish EVERYTHING.
actually, now that I mention it you should do a Top 5 General units!
so what happend with preatorian guards
Jorn Zwaagstra Died long ago
+Dardo Not as good as other roman infantry they are too expensive :p but still amazing unit
+Jorn Zwaagstra On papar Paetorian guards are great but you'd never actually field them because they're so expensive. Sure, you can spam them in campaign to your hearts desire because campaign moneys a joke. But, any good multiplayer lobby will have a gold limit.
We will remember this...lol
kingKapuzina I run armies almost completely comprised or them in single player...
Praetorian Guard i was expecting for Top1, Being super OP they were. They were like Armour Legionaries but with slightly lower armor higher overall stats, and a slightly large cost but I often had PG's on my Front line and they wreck the field.
Robert F They are very expensive for what they bring though.
I've seen them lose to Royal Peltasts 1v1, when the Royal Peltast was in shield wall.
@@xtotalwarzone if you build your empires economy balanced enough money shouldn’t be an issue at all by the time you can recruit them. Non issue really
@@matthewearlywine5535 I believe he was talking about Multiplayer. In Campaigns, money shouldn't be an issue by that point that's true.
@@leonrambach1216 fair
A 45 minute ad holy hell didn't know that was possible
its not, you tripping
@@Lubey4U yes it is I've seen hour-long ads
WHERE ARE THE PLEBS
Beating Praetorians ass lol
levy freemen and celtic warriors should be here. They are one of the most cost effective units in the game. Iberian swordsman can be extremly dangerous skirmishers
Iberian Swordsmen are probably the finest medium skirmishers in the game they not only have pretty decent missile stats they have the melee stats to deal with most infantry units that catch up to them and even some light cav
wait wait wait... the most expensive and powerful unit in the game is Roman Praetorians
Dechange Other than Royal Spartans. It has happened to me plenty of times in 1v1 scenarios in multiplayer
Alberto Delta Odorizzi Royal Spartans beat Praetorian Guards decisively. So sorry.
I am still pretty surprised that Oathsworn wasn't here though
Yep. Haven't played in a long time, but during my testing Oathsworn were by far the most powerful unit. They destroyed everything, could charge elite phalanxes/pikes head on and barely take any casualties. They used to be relatively cheap too, but it looks like they cost more than Praetorians these days.
I had a unit of african pikeman beat a full unit of preatorians in a straight up fight. pikes only lost 30 dudes.
I have to mention Veteran Shield Warriors. Their melee defense is soooo high. The only weakness is arrow fire but once you get them into melee they're very powerful and yeah, they're pretty cost effective.
Let's not forget those damn Libyan Peltasts... They beat cavalry that's trying to chase them down.
That's why Lusitani is my favorite faction :D
If you don't count money Praetorians are the best.
20 praetorians vs 20 elephants? ^^
Greek Iraklis wtf, are you normal?
If u dont count money hero spartan isthe best
@@jaeger9654 Definitely not.Their stats are not the best and they have less men.
@@johnmartinez12347 spartan army are op at defending and attacking but they lack number
the praetorian guard
Next: "Top 5 Campaign Provinces in Total War: Rome 2". What are the best provinces in your opinion?
Macedonia
Aethiopea: really good position and alot of Income. Only Drawback; only 3 Cities.
Italia/Latium because you can train an army in Roma within 4 turns!
africa because of the high trade income
Aegyptus, 2 port settlements for the Mediterranean and Red Seas, a grain settlement (never a bad thing), iron for top-tier military buildings and 2 wonders.
Triarii are good for their price, and good in the early game. However, in the later game, they are more so something you use to irritate enemy lines while you prepare an actual assault.
something like greek balista
I've actually ran some tests as to which unit is the most powerful using a no stamina and no morale mod. Pound for Pound the Thracian Nobles are the best infantry in the game, with their charge they start off against any unit on top (oathsword, praetorians, lusitani nobles, heroic nobles, etc) and then from there they basically go 1 for 1 trading units until they come out on top, especially with their headhunt making them all the more deadly.
Royal Cataphracts man!!!!!!! they even tear through Evacati and Legionnaires
Ok so I've played Rome 2 for a while now and I wanted to just randomly share a tip with you guys. When you are playing as Rome after you conquer the Etruscan league go for grease preferably Eperis and then when you capture a Greek settlement set up a auxiliary barracks there this will allow you to recruit peltast, hoplites, and citizen calvery this is a good way to get decent units early on in the game keep in mind tho you probably want to keep one army back in Rome in case war breaks out with the barbarians or Carthage with you
Thanks!
i find the oathsworn warriors to be the best infantry unit
I got a slightly different approach. If you are playing a campaign I got to say; Principes! They are available in the early game. They don't cost that much and with a dignitaries they cost less. Nothing can stand them. They choke a spot. Pierce through spot. Hold spot so you can hammer and anvil. They are just legionnaires but in very early game.
FUCK YEAH, ROME NUMBA 1
ROMA INVICTA
Ihaz Noame ROMA VICTOR
1:50... what...the...fuck...
Nice video mate.
Ross Whitelaw Thanks
thracian nobles. odrysian kingdoms, thracian and most op unit, in my opinion
Borteynepro Doom Doom hard to use
The Saka Noble Archers, or whatever, because they are incredibly powerful in melee as well as in ranged. They are also incredibly well armored so they take almost no casualties from foot archers.
Have you seen Triarii's square formation? They can sustain elephants!! WTF
Tim-Alexander Teuner what is your name?
I had Spartans (with spears because in a video a watched the guys had them stay still and had no spears) vs praetorians and the Spartans won (because they threw thier spears unlike the guy who favoured the praetorians who made them grab swords) so there ya go
My definitive favorite Roman unit is the Armored Legionares. Great attack and weapon damage and absured armor and health. Just amasing main line infantry. For the list I agree about Royal Cataphrats and Royal Spartans. They are the best units in their class.
Most cost-effective: armored legionaries
Best combat unit: praetorian guard
PG units are simply unstoppable. I played a friend once with an entire army of PG against a balanced army, and all I did was charge straight into his formation. A massive blob formed and I ended up winning, losing only two units even after losing my general at the very beginning. Their morale is insane, their stats are loaded, so even when they are surrounded they'll hold their ground and win.
nobody thick on socii extraordinarii? why? socii infantry are just simple great on all way: they're cheap to upkeep, have good stats and reliable in tough battle. Try and reply.
tominnenPL well the shock cavalry used by the romans from the socii are awesome but socii Hastati is not that great for battling. I've used it in battle and it and gets killed off in two minutes. It's good as a distraction though or support for your other units
+Colombiano Mapper no socii hastati but foot socii extraordinarii theyre much more havier armoured and also skilled. check it again.
tominnenPL oh i thought you meant sock hastati but socii equites extrodinarii and socii extrodinarii, the heavy melee infantry are great
tominnenPL basically just a sidegrade principes, good early game if you want a bit more staying power but fall of quickly once you get legions
Very Heavy Missile Cavalry. While playing as Rhodes I had to rely on onagers to counter them on open fields.
Can you do: "Top 1 Best Channel To See Total War Top Lists?"
Bruh...
theros spears are insane for both skirmish and stand up fighters once trained up a few ranks
3:34 So they are so good because of their lack of mobility? I feel like you recorded this in one take. You could edit it.
Lekker bezig ;)
I was expecting some pikes but this is still a good list. Idk maybe Hellenic royal guard or something
Aspis companion cavalry can destroy the catafracts.the catafracts can get a great charge but when they fight the aspis cav.. they are done!
nope aspis will die in melee combat
Movies View
i have tested it but if you say so...but still aspis cav is the best melee cav.
Giannis Kartsakis tous gamane oi cataphracts ama kanoun ena kalo charge
Kala exo kairo na paikso kai me ta pach mporei na to allaksan
+Giannis κ45 εξαρταται και αν θα χρησιμοποιησουν οι καταφρακτοι τις ικανοτητες μεσα στη μαχη
For everyone who says that Pretorian guard should be in the list:
Oathsworn BEATS Pretorian Guard in combat.
For campaign only, the Levy spearmen is absolutely broken in terms of cost effectiveness and strategical availability.
In my opinion, the best unit are Hastati. In terms of quality and price.
Could you do this tops in Attila?
Hastati in my opinion the most cost effective pre-marian unit
i had a battle with 430 spartan hoplites vs about 3.5k daorsi and i won,so i must say they are the toughest units in the game
You have forgotten the Dacian NOBEL SORDMAN/HORSHAM
+Sebi Salagean Haha, I love those guys I have to admit.
Campanian Cav are a pretty good unit, high armour + high melee attack
Prince of Epirus I agree, although not the best imo.
Thorax swordsman are really good I always use them as a back bone to my armies.(if available of course)
Shall you make video with the top 5 mods like myrmidons and Achilles
Tbh falxmen are fucking great. I dont know how to use them so i just charge them behind heavy enemy infantry and even though they get absolutely wrecked (entity/health) they also rack up 100-150 kills everytime. Imo they do way more then you pay for
Best units in the campaign are the elite pikemen of Macedon and the hellenic cataphract units you can get in some of the successor states. The AI is so dumb all you have to do is put one unit of the elite pikemen in the choke point during a siege and the AI will try to run his whole army through it. Also hellenic cataphracts were absolute destroyers, you could take out the entire enemy army with just that one unit of cav. Chariots were OP as fuck too, dunno if they got nerfed tho
The Evocati were the most experianced, Paid the most and You had to be loyal and dedicated to get into the Evocati in prehistoric Rome.
Gerard Peters Yep, however gameplay-wise they are a bit OP. :p
Royal Spartans being the best infantry beating pratorians and oathsworns I thought they would be number 1. Plus they are spears so they destroy cav and their influence with their expert charge defense make them op
Germanic Slingers are best value skirmishers. Seriously, try them out. They just don't die while being so cheap.
Bayonet1809 Ye, I saw a video about that. Very good shields if I recall correctly.
HEEEYYAA.
Its been almost 5 years since that video.
Can you redo this? A lot of things have changed since. And those units have been tweaked with. I need a new top 5 most cost/effective units video. :d
Please?!????!!!!???
What about thorax swordsmen? They throw spears also and they are very heavy melee infantry
GamenMetDennis They lose to almost every other sword unit in their price range.
***** i buy them alot as macedon though, but you were right about the thureos spears, i never bought them because they were medium spear infantry but i watched this video and ive used them now and they are amazing :D thx for that
The way you stress my family name is hilarious. :D
But yeah, these guys are able to cut their way through anything. A great unit if you want to win without doing anything(though there is a good chance your female family members are going to become famous).
Rush4in Haha, I'm sorry mate.
***** np
what is your family name
Ramsay Snow Николов or Nikolov spelled with the latin alphabet.
Rush4in but were does he mention it?
I may have to stage a mutiny after this one...lol
Praetorian guards and war dogs are my favorite.
I'm new to Rome 2 Total War, although I'm not new to the Total War series, having played Rome 1, Medieval 2, Shogun 2, Napoleon, and Empire. I'd like to know what the best starting factions are in Rome 2. I've never really listened to the difficulty rating, because I was confidant in my abilities in the old ones, but the campaign game play is so revamped, and so different, I don't know what to do.
Caleb Zuk The best starting faction is obviously Rome. :p Other good picks are Macedon, Egypt, something like that. They are probably the easier factions.
This might sound stupid, but I would love someone to explain this to me. What is the difference between melee attack and defence? Cuz when a unit is in melee, it anyways is both defending and attacking, so what's the difference?
Let's make an example, 2 units have the same qualities, the only difference between them being one has 10 more melee attack, but also 10 less melee defence. Who is better?
Hywooz zoowyh More melee attack = More hits = More kills
More melee defense = More blocks = Less casualites.
High attack units kill faster but die faster. High defense units kill a bit slower but also take less casualties.
Now it makes a lot more sence to me. Thank you very much!
Could do with you typing the names of the units as I can't always understand your accent. Really enjoy your videos though, thanks !
whats about the spear-agema they are a stronger version from the thureos-spears and are not very expensive.
I agree thureos spears are very nice to have in your army.
Dirk Tillaard Indeed, very good all-alround unit
Praetorians and Eagle cohort are tough bastards, I have entire legions of them
Armoured war elephants for me
Shotel warriors, beats anything i putup against it. The kush are just great
can you play as sparta without the wrath of sparta DLC i am thinking of buying it?
Oathsworn? I mean they are the strongest infantry unit and with the ability of head hunt and frenzy they are so op
Y am i watching this this in 2024???😂
I never know what to chose: Armoured legionaries or evocati cohort. the armoured have +3 melee defence and +5 armour, but -3 melee attack. So what makes you chose evocati?
Hywooz zoowyh Evocati is cheaper, and you get more bang for your buck. Armoured legionaries are extremely good as well though, you can choose both of them, it all depends on the budget.
The difference is only 40, which basically is almost nothing, when you keep in mind that 1 Evocati unit costs 890. Admit it, Evocati just sounds a lot better ;-)
Oh, thought it was more. I don't know, I use both of them but Evocati is seen as the better in general. A lot of people mentioned them,
Yeah that's alright, but it just seems like Armoured legionaries don't get the same credit as evocati.
I just think both of them are the best, considering that praetorians are too expensive when compared.
That is true, haha.
Parthian horse archers on skirmish mode.
spartan pikes is better if your mentioning about budget , And for those praetorian guards are the best you cant have 20 praetorian guards it will ultimately drain your money,
Armored Legion and evocati is good unit without Skinning your treasury
I expected Royal Peltasts to be here.
Wait, so that means Royal peltats, sacred band and every single elephant unit didn't come in this top 5...
If we are talking about the most cost effective units at 11700 money in tournament battles the best units in my opinion are these:
No1 Heros of Sparta.
No2 Eastern Cataphracts
No3 Evocati Cohort
No4 Mercenary Naked Swords of Pontus
No5 Scythian medium shock cavalry (around 750 cost...dont remember the name :P )
Now if we have no limit on money then Royal Spartans, Elite Pikemen, Praetorian Guard, Elite Parthian Cataphract, Seleusid elephant.
When everybody overlooks the Thracian Nobles because their defense sucks and more ._. T_T
How come the Evocati cohort are better than the Eagle cohort?
"no real counter to these hurr durr ... btw pikes in multiplayer are bad hurr durr". Well I found the bug in your equation.
***** what would your line up suggestion be for fighting eastern factions as Rome ? ( Im really having a bad time with Parthia and Selecuids )
oathsworn??
praetorian guard?
hellenic royal guard?
I can keep saying but why you didnt put one of these
Movies View Because this list is not purely about damage, it is about how useful a unit is. The first 2 you mentioned are overpriced. Sword Followers and Evocati will do slightly less damage for a huge cost decrease. Pikemen are simply underwhelming in this game. (Except when you want to trash the AI)
but they can keep units off with their formation and some hae good armour too
1. should be evocati cohort, they are just objectively the best infantry unit in the game for the price.
2. is veteran legionnaires.
commenting this before I watched, i'm guessing.
What about praetorian guards, they can beat royal Spartans
my fev unit is Evocati Cohort (theyre just better legionaris with cloaks)
They should teach us more about the vikings
Oath sworn ultimate unit they can destroy every think
Whos have night, are this channel dont upload in 2018,2019,2020
Nightmare.
Mob will still remain the best unit, no matter what others say.
2:23 thought my phone rang there
chariots are bloody useless. You just destroy them with archers and you only have like 12-24 of them
what about eagle cohort they got great defense and in offense they are as good as pratorians
Sacred band of Carthage are incredible
Lol i had few egyptian pikemen (weakest pike) and some nigerian spearmen in square vs lot of Royal catacraphts for fun but quess what, egypt won the catacraphts . i was like damn
Yeah, if you charge straight onto a pikeline with cav you'll get wrecked every time
not the best but my ideal army is pike center with theuros spear flanks. The theuros spears guard against cavalry while peppering the enemy infantry with javelins. Combine that with some cavalry to attack enemy skirmishers and to hit the enemy rear.
Why don't you number them and who are they?
Yes i disagree that royal cataphract is the best cav in the game because this cav is not good in melee combat after charge.Yet this cav is my favourite shock cav.
Eastern spearmen! Give them a try, they are OP!
Hahaha they’re the one unit I’ve never seen in any battle replays!
Oathsworns.... i tried to kill 1 unit of that guys with 4 units of regular legionairs...they all died or run. They hacked about 5mins from all sides than the survivors run and oathsworns had just 60 men lost. Total OP unit.
+Lumpi Lumpinski I know they're strong but that doesn't sound right at all lol. Did the Oathsworn have a significant rank bonus? Did you make good use of your infantries javelins before you charged? Did you charge your flanking infantry into the unit or did you just let them wrap around slowly?
Seb King
It was in a PvP Battle and i had a little idea that they are cheating. 2 vs 2 and both opponent was in the same clan.
Louis Darilla
Why should i? It was humiliating.
Louis Darilla
....
Louis Darilla
Really? Why should i lie about that, or do you simply pissin me off?!
What is your twitter account? it says it doesn't exist anymore
It only makes sense that Rome 2' best unit is a Roman one
Anyone remember Roman Arcani? :D
Martijn wat zijn je pc Specs ?? Aub
I made 1200 kills with one unit chariots last time
best are Heroes of Sparta, Royal Sartans and Preratorian guards
Tried this game and the control sux. I clicked the soldiers to move and they re just standing there. The manual control sight for ballistas is some shit view. What's the point of introducing such feature when u can't see shit what u're shooting at
