It’s a powerful song. For me, your cover lacked the strong empathy with which Corey sings it. For him, it’s a literal tearing out of his heart. For you, while stylistically fantastic, didn’t portray that emotion that’s so important to the song. It felt as though you were just saying the words. By no means do I want to say it was bad, it wasn’t. I think, however, based on my complete lack of musical prowess, if you recovered this song after further internalizing the metaphor and emotion, I bet it would be flawless. I’d love to see that.
