Nothing lasts forever, nothing ever can. On 9/11/2001 I rang my mum and I was crying thinking the world was finished, she said to me; oh Leis, for as long as I can remember the worlds been gonna end, she was 75, it did end for her 2 years later a year to the day before the tsunami hit Thailand. Interesting interview but, if the the world is meant to end, it will. If the world is meant to? ... that would imply some kind of predestination, but there is no proof of that and on some level, most of us capable of thinking normally recognize that and humanity strives to overcome the odds collectively, in spite of our inability to achieve total mastery of our ultimate outcome, whatever it may be, while many also try to feel singularly satisfied about their individual accomplishments and contributions to provide meaning to their mysterious existence; a normal disposition for much of our species.

It's a nice and very catchy line, but it can also be argued we have been beautifully designed for a world we no longer live in for quite a long time. Pretty much since the agricultural revolution. Indeed we adapted on a physical level. Hunter gatherers would have been lactose and gluten intolerant. The genes that allowed us to consume those foods spread pretty rapidly after the agricultural revolution. We weren't designed to live in cities with many thousands and then millions of people, or to live in such close proximity to domesticated animals(where many if not most of our historical pathogens and "plagues" came from) but again we adapted. Hunter gatherers a term which spans many cultures and ways of doing things didn't have the rigid social structures that came with a settled life in cities. No kings, organised religions, codified laws, writing, standing armies etc, and yet again we adapted.

Nuclear engineer here. A couple misconceptions. In the United States and majority of the western world, our power reactors have several levels of containment the final of which is a containment building. It's more so a bunker of feet thick reinforced concrete. It's capable of withstanding instantaneous explosive vaporization of all liquid coolant within the reactor and then some. It will not burn and release radioactive material into the atmosphere as described in this podcast. There have been studies showing these buildings can survive direct collisions with commercial aircraft and even nuclear weapons. They are very secure. Russian and Chinese designs I cannot comment on...

These interviews are good and necessary, but we must also remember to keep a level of skepticism here. Just because someone says something no matter how calm, confident and factual they sound or come off as, that doesn't mean it's true or all true. Just because they wield around impressive credentials as well, doesn't automatically make them fool proof on their claims either.
**Edited to clarify: I don't have as much a problem with the first half of this interview as I do the second half. What Brett speaks on in the first half seems very reasonable and I've seen consensus or relatable perspectives/conclusions from other renowned and credible sources that coincide with what he brings up that strengthens his arguments in the first half. I mostly take issue with his second half overall and his takeaways from his time at Evergreen. Not everything that was said by him seems entirely unreasonable or unfair but he said enough that was reckless and obtuse in my opinion. Even with the first half (which is relatively harmless - it's not a bad idea to prepare or be mindful of existential threats even if they never become reality) but especially with the second half, we should be questioning and scrutinizing the claims made by Brett with at least the same fervor he has done with those he is at odds with.**
I wish what accompanied with these interviews were comparisons and debates on what is being said. These interviews already pack in so much but perhaps a little more pushback from Steve would be beneficial here. Too many of us just believe what the interviewee says because he sounds so confident in what he's saying. He sounds so sure of himself. He sprinkles in words not often found in everyday speech along with simplified explanations of what he's trying to say or what those words or concepts mean.
Essentially, he sounds like he's offering us answers and finally an understanding of all the chaos and uncertainties around us but we have to fight the urge to just accept that because it comforts us. So interesting how he says stuff just like that himself in this interview. It's almost like we are getting the real answer so as to make us believe the rest of it which could be mostly lies with more ease. He said himself to be careful about accepting things just because it's comforting but not necessarily right or useful.
SO, WE MUST QUESTION THE FAUCIs AND THE WEINSTEINs AND THE GOVERNMENTS AND THE BUSINESSES AND ALL THE OTHERS OF THE WORLD. THIS GUY IS JUST ONE OF MANY PERSPECTIVES WITH JUST ONE OF MANY COMBINATIONS OF BACKGROUNDS AND MOTIVATIONS AND SECRETS AND EXPERIENCES AND "TRUTHS."
I don't know if what Brett is saying is true or not or a combo of both but too many of you certainly are bought in with this interview without any reservation or hesitation that he might be wrong or could be telling lies intentionally or not. He deserves to be scrutinized and questioned just like those he brings up in this interview. Going against the grain is not always the pathway to the "real truth;" it simply makes for a more interesting and dramatic story, but it does us no good either if it turns out to also be false/a lie/an exaggeration/partial truth/etc.
We shouldn't be giving people like this our blinded faith so readily and easily. He's human too (flawed and all) just like all the others he brought up. We need to keep searching for the truth and keep questioning things and those around us, and that most certainly includes guys like in this interview.

I believe Brett Weinstein is a very intelligent man and an honest man who through his own life experiences has become incredibly worried about society. I also believe he’s dealing with an existential crisis after the traumas he suffered both from his firing from the university and the institutions of society trying to silence him during the pandemic. Honestly I believe he’s become red pilled through his experiences and the conversations he’s had with other prominent figures in society over the last 7-8 years and now’s he trying to convey everything he’s come to accept about society to the masses, I think he almost feels compelled to do it.

This man knows a little about a lot of things. Enough about all of these subjects to be scared by them but not enough to realise he doesn't need to be scared. Throws scattershot out at enough targets that it hits on something someone is concerned and suddenly for these people it adds credence to everything else he talks about.

He also has a lot of first hand experience dealing with the dangers of woke ideologies that are invading our institutions and society at large atm which is much more serious issue than most want to believe. He’s not scared he’s just having honest conversations about many issues in our society, in America. Necessary conversations. @@nickmoyer9112 I think you raise some valid points here. I don't know as much of him outside this interview but what you are saying sounds plausible at this time. Either way, what he had to say about some of the existential threats were definitely interesting but then the other half of the interview just really made me have to take a pause and start to ask many questions with the whole thing now. It's very likely that this interview is a mix of some truth and some exaggeration/lies/red pill conspiracy/etc. The challenge and frustrating thing is trying to decipher which is which.
It's disturbing though how easily viewers just lap this stuff up without even taking a pause to what is said. People with platforms deserve extra scrutiny and expectations too like both the interviewee and interviewer here because of their power and influence over a wide swath of people in such a relatively small amount of time and space too. It is a privilege and special duty of these people to be more diligent about the content and claims they put out there. So much damage is done by people who are just too reckless and greedy perhaps to fully realize and accept this privilege and duty.

@@NeilSearle By the end of the interview, I found myself more cautious and unsure of all he said because of all that he said. Perhaps because of what you said in a way; because I could sense he was throwing around a lot of stuff on so many big areas that don't necessarily even align with his field of expertise, I started to raise doubts on everything he was saying. I can definitely see some people falling for the trap you laid out but the very sense of what he was doing led people like me to pull back.
I think you may agree too that because he was addressing some of these concerns we all have (and this is the fault of society all around for not addressing these areas more to be fair) he was filling in the vacuum gaps we are left with and so providing a comfort to people. It's a scarcity issue. I fall prey to scarcity issues too but we have to be mindful and careful to not allow these so called "problem solvers" or "answer givers" to sway us towards dark and dangerous corners simply because we are so desperate for a road to walk on.

The good folks in rural parts, who don't have a platform, are living lives where they touch grass routinely.
I assure you quite soundly that there is more land of the US that is still forest/dessert/swamp/tundra/grassland than urban sprawl. The folks that don't live on top of each other have a much more optimistic view on life.

However, I’m not as nihilistic as he is, I tend to think we will see more and more major survival threats which will result in many hundreds of thousands, if not millions die. But humans will survive, just not in this greedy and selfish world we’ve created. Back to basics, local communities taking care of each other. I know someone who was sitting at a traffic light on his way home and he was hit by a bus coming from the opposite direction. Someone else went to work, thinking it would be a normal day. When a man of such incredible gifts is banned from ANYTHING, it indeed signals the end of the civilization, such as it is. I found myself agreeing with everything he said, and as a man of 76 I would like to add just one thought if I may, one that came to mind when I watched the movie, "Oppenheimer." While this film was about nuclear war, as early as 1816 a young teenaged girl had already predicted what happens when science goes horribly wrong, and the the name of her book was "Frankenstein." This is the single warning I have told for the past 50-years that sums up the problem perfectly: *Whenever man's technological advancement outpaces his spiritual advancement, it always ends in tragedy.*

We sit here listening to what he says, we nod our heads in agreement, but when it comes to actually taking action on what he says, cutting out the novelty, doing the uncomfortable things in order to move ourselves forward in the right direction, we shy away from it. We say "yeah you're right...... but, that all sounds like hard work, those at the "top" will sort it out (flicks on to netflix)". It's we that cast the votes with our actions. Don't leave it to those "above" us to make the right decisions because, quite frankly, look how well that's gone so far. We change the course of this peril, no one else. I call on every one of you reading this post to do the necessary thing, to do the things that pull you away from the fake comfort you have been loured into and move humanity forward with the single impacts of your own actions. I just finished a Summer college course in GEOL and GEOL lab and nothing about these things is taught or even discussed. They only talk about the material of how humans are causing climate warming and how dangerous it is. It is very sad how much we pay for courses that do not touch on today's reality. I am heading towards a masters degree but I am questioning if it is even worthwhile today. It makes me sad and angry that I will be paying back huge loans on a education that does not bridge to our reality. Thank you for this.

Very sadly, this is the case across all 'education'. I have regularly experienced that the 'teaching materials and curriculum generally comprise 'established' academic knowledge that bears little resemblance to the real world. I only started learning when I left university and started experiencing the 'real' world and thinking for myself. The sad thing is that we all need that 'bit of paper' that says were are qualified!

I went back to school at 50 and spent seven years and then decided to move out into the woods and enjoy my life because I saw the whole DEI culture and just agreeing with everything that the Professor said if you agree with the professors, you get an A on your paper if you really have some insight that’s different than, they may not like your paper. I was a straight A student, but I continued to stay quiet and not be outspoken. That’s the only way and that’s not really learning or education. He’s right.

Within a few seconds in the middle of something else I'd be gone, somewhere else, dead, anyway the big fear would occur just the same as if the Earth blipped on some incredible day. The only thing that quells these insurmountable fears is the love I have for my dog, my friends, beautiful places and things and not lastly the Earth, the very place and thing which holds that fate for me or not.
