It's not really that complicated. Self-ordering stations maximize user-friendliness, employee PoS machines maximize speed. Sure, there are other UX issues here (like mixing buttons for adding items with buttons for modifying existing items, or some menus being seemingly randomly arranged), but the main point is that everything is presented all at once - it's unintuitive for someone looking at it for the first time, but an employee that does this for 8 hours a day can punch out everything in seconds, without having to move between nested tabs of meal categories and going through 3 confirmation prompts.
Thank you for sharing what happens from the POV of the cashier. I know what to be mindful of when they are looking for the buttons and dealing with all of the funky machine things.
@PlatinumGamingg I promise you a pizza chain is easier than a burger joint like McDonald's or whataburger. Especially when they serve a lot more than just burgers. I speak from experience.
Keep in mind that y'all can't see the customers faces. When you're on the till and reading customer emotions, especially their impatience, it can feel way more intense and fast paced.
Im glad theyre adding self service machines to McD's now. Takes a lot of stress off of the staff, allows more customization, and is just better for people who are socially anxious.
Ours is one of the busier location we tell people to use the kiosks unfortunately we are understaffed so our kitchen is too slow for our volume but otherwise we are pretty quick.
@@lIII0IIIla meal is typically more bang for your buck if you want everything included (basically discounts everything by like 50 cents per item or so) but yes it is usually still cheaper to leave off the fries or drink. However you don’t really call it a meal if you don’t want the drink, because saying meal or combo implies that you want everything included. Just saying something like “I’ll have a burger with just a side of fries” suffices, I may clarify if you want a beverage but I’d still know that you probably don’t.

when I was 18 I got my first job at Mcdonalds. the manager just threw me on the POS and said it was simple to "just read it." i quit after 5 days cause that shit was too damn confusing
Yeah we have a lot more than the US but this guy is probably a new employee, cause once you get used to it, it's easy af. It's only annoying when customers ask for specific stuff like to take toppings off, extra toppings or want something really specific so you have to hit the ask me button at the top and let the kitchen crew know.
the self ordering kiosk is such a big help, it speeds up the process. the only slow point is in receiving because some customers don't get their tray of meals right away when called, causing the server to shout the number louder.
All work is noble. If you wake up in the morning for any work, that's work. Anything taxing you Mentally, physically, emotionally, your time and/or finances (commuting + Gas) Can't stand anyone who says X job is not a "real job."
Now that one was a busy lunch rush. Usually here in NY you see more of that rush on drive thru these days rather than being in the store....especially on the dinner rush from 6-8p where you can get like 7-12 cars back even with the double lane drive thru. I have had usually faster luck staying in the drive thru than going inside even with that many cars.
Seems like it was a McDonalds close to a school so that's why it was busy inside. I remember the McDonalds at my highschool was a zoo at lunch time lol.

Your manager expects you to stay at the register waiting for that customer to come back when its short staffed and they just put the order on the counter without even calling it out or helping u do the ice creams
Worked at McDonald’s for 6 years in my late teens/early twentys and it is not as easy a job as people think. Long days dealing with customers, constantly standing and talking all day. Mentally draining job for sure. Great POV of this side of the counter showing them that’s it’s a fun job at times but it can really take a toll after awhile. Keep up the good work man! Much love!
I did it for 3 years. This video here is slow time, not lunch rush. We had 6 registers and it would be 8 people in each line for an hour and a half straight. The new concept is slower on purpose to control food costs.

I was able to get the hang of it in a few days / weeks because technology is a more natural thing to me. Been a year since that was the case and nearly everything is a breeze when it comes to actually taking orders
