Goliath Heron vs African Fish Eagle

- Battle of Titans! This is a great video clip showing the epic battle that happens on a daily bases between the Goliath Heron (the worlds largest heron which stands at about 4.5 ft (1.4 m) and has a wingspan of at least 7 ft (2 m) and the African Fish Eagle. The Goliath Heron is an excellent fisherman and the African Fish Eagle knows it. Once the Goliath Heron catches a fish it is vulnerable, and the African Fish Eagle swoops in to haze the heron which forces it to drop the fish. That's the eagles opportunity to snag the fish, but at high risk. If the eagle miscalculates it could be fatal to the eagle as the heron's dagger like beak could easily kill the eagle with one well placed thrust! Filmed in Kruger National Park, South Africa!
Thank you for visiting Brads World Reptiles UA-cam channel! These different videos are a reflection of my passion for wildlife, wildlife conservation and my interest in creating educational opportunities about our natural world. Most of my life has been spent around domestic and exotic wildlife as a hobbyist, an animal curator, and a life science educator. This has created opportunities to meet some very interesting people, work with and observe some of our worlds most fascinating wildlife species, and enabled travel to some of the most remote places of our planet in over thirty different countries. As well, our facilities has been working with hundreds of varieties of exotic reptiles, amphibians, birds, mammals and arthropods that have been used in educational programs throughout the Pacific Northwest.
These videos, which were either filmed here in the United States or in different countries around the world, were either filmed recently, or up to several decades ago. I’m using UA-cam as a way of sharing some of my most interesting moments.

Thank you for not using horrible music! Great vid.
agreed love hearing just nature
Whenever you hear a horrible music as a BGM for wild life video (except may be BBC or Nat Geo), you know they are not genuine videos, just mash ups!!
this heron seems very stupid, he's got to be related to tucker Carlson!!!!
Agreed.. beautiful natural sound of nature.
Agreed 💯👌
Wow! That last image of the heron spreading its wings and being reflected in the water. Beautiful.
These two rivals compliment each other BEAUTIFULLY!!! They seem to be evenly matched in the physical aspect as well as aesthetically. Both of these birds are among my top 87 favorite species. Exquisite.
how do you keep a list of top 87 species all in order? i can barely choose my favourite animal, let alone a list!
What a random number.
@@joshuazucca9277 Exactly!
@Charming Chowder Linens and bedding has NOTHING to do with this!
@Todd Bennett … The heron stalled at No. 96 for me. Such a shame, since people wait on pins & needles for my Annual Top 93 Birds List and so many have been pulling for the heron to enter the charts. Oh well, there’s always next year.
The Goliath Heron is truly a monster of a bird. You don't really realise how big it is in the video, but it's the biggest heron in the world and dwarfs other species of herons who are pretty big birds in their own respect.
I found one at the beach. It was so chill.
@@OmegaRedFanisn't it in Africa alone
The great blue heron can be almost as large. I saw one about 4 1/2 feet the other day.
@@OmegaRedFan So Lovely
1:27 it dropped the fish and the eagle was laughing at it
Lololol
Lol that's what I was thinking

6 min of nature better than the best Hollywood production

Yes
😀👍very true- wrote my comment before reading yours, I hadn't mentioned Hollywood, if I had read it.- but it's just too right, what you write.
True
Agreed.
A heron must have one of the best kill ratios in in the wild.Very impressive.
He eats 10 kg of fish/day
My pond can testify to that🤬
@@mr.puddintater1805Nice
I had an encounter with one back in 2020 on the beach.
Indeed. In the span of this short video alone it caught atleast 3 fish
This is a fascinating video, that Heron has to be very frustrated after missing several fish and then have that Eagle come in and attempt to steal the fish he caught. Rare footage indeed to see the interaction of these two fishing so close together, really enjoyed watching.
Thank you!
It looks like the her on is just showing off. He makes no attempt to eat them
They don’t fish for fun. Stalking fish and attempting to grab them has to take a lot of energy for a bird that size. And a heron actually isn’t very big. They fish to eat.
@@billyg.2677 It didn't want to have a full bill in case the eagle attacked it. That bill's like a fucking spear, but without it, it's virtually defenseless.
Can't wait to see the shitt!er crap-authored $2.5mil version of this which 16-25yo's will worship
as an original. (rolleyes)... We are doomed.
Eagle was laughing at the heron for losing the fish but the heron doesn't much care because he just catches another one... they don't seem to be good neighbors though 😂
I was kinda thinking that about the eagle laughing. Then he taunted him by catching a fish and not loosing it. Lol. Then tried to steal the herons fish because it couldn't keep ahold of it. Probably a juvenile heron.
@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 It's an adult.
nope it drop the fish because it saw the eagle coming
San Jose you can tell who has higher intelligence lol 😂 by watching this video
@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 An eagle would destroy a heron without trying. Herons have no way to deal with talons of raptors. Significantly smaller raptors like a much smaller hawk take the food of herons all the time.
The Eagles laughing at him makes the video even funnier.
Hahaha.. darn thats true. Eagle have sense of humor.
Nope. He is the one who scares the eagles away.
Thought I was tripping 😂😂😂
At 1:35 it's almost as if the Eagle is laughing at the Heron for dropping it's fish lol
5:52 "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!"
"is there noone else !?"

Lol gladiator
LOL
Haha knew there would be a comment of this.
Love this. Herons are such beautiful birds, and when they take off and fly it is very majestic. I often see them with fish in their mouths at the same spot in the stream. Once saw a giant blue heron at a river fly into a large flock of geese, and the geese went crazy even though they outnumbered it fifty or more to one, and they just scattered and flew away as it appeared they were scared of it.
I saw a great blue take off from the pond yesterday. Never seen one at that pond before. It was like watching an airplane take off
Because the heron eat the baby geese.
@@sharksport01 They eat anything that they can swallow!

The Heron is practicing catch-and-release rules? What a good citizen.

Heron : Really,,, that just nothin, i can catch easy like this ..,Fish just for my Desert... I can eat you
Must rank as one of the most beautiful nature cries in the world. Can see why it’s the bird call of Africa.
1:30 Eagle being petty and laughing at the heron losing his fish
2:26 Eagle being petty and showing off a fish that he caught to rub it in the heron's face
This area is so beautiful, I could spend weeks watching and photographing all the wildlife in the area. This is what I perceive a rich documentary to offer and you can go to these areas and see it first-hand. The wondrous beauty of pure nature.

She just want to show African Fish Eagle that she is pro..
@@lbylab602 okay that's good enough for me. 😀
He just wanted to make the fish late for something.
probably did when eagle is far away, and it is a very smart move. Heron has its beak for a weapon, if it starts eating it can't fight back and eagle can easily kill it. This is why it was dropping the fish the moment eagle got too close.
@@DuneDemon8 Exactly!
Wow that heron is huge and absolutely majestic , great video thank you
Yes, thanks for a great video of nature doing its thing. And thanks for not overshadowing the natural sounds with recorded music. We all need to be more connected to the earth and what's happening around us.
The bird: Ready for round 2?
Eagle: Take it easy bro it's a prank.

The Herons feathers get more and more puffed up and just make it look like he's going more insane as the clip goes on, part of me is expecting an eye twitch near the end.🤣🤣🤣

wow absolutely awesome wonder how things will go between some storks and heron
"Haha you dropped the fish!" Eagle to Heron
5:55 "what have I done huh? Why you have to always steal my fish?"
Hello! Thanks for your videos! Sometimes you want to photograph a bird sitting on a tall tree. Some people advise buying a used camera with a removable lens and buying a lens with a large optical zoom, while others say that you can save money and buy an adapter for binoculars or a monocular for your smartphone. What do you advise?
I think it's pretty amazing that the heron shakes his feather up to be bigger to intimidate the fish eagle.
Bro was like "you're not taking my fish" lol
the perfect example of don't give up. Need to try again and again until you get it. Nice camerawork.

Very beautiful heron, thanks for the video.
The end where he shows his wings and shows off is the best part I've had birds show off before I front of me before actually was a vulture haha it was like he was posing
3:38 that fish got some skills.
Interesting to see the heron drying its wings just like a vulture would.

The eagle did give him plenty of opportunities to eat in peace, but he was playing with his food.
3:09 OMG, that big ass bird barely flapped it's wings 4 times to fly to the other side of the lake. Looked like magic.

Looks like a nice place.
Outstanding, two magnificent creatures.
Goliath Heron's are like their smaller Great Blue Heron cousins. They are not just expert fish killers with their dagger like beaks. But they will not hesitate too eat just about anything they can fit down their throats...!!! I've been in the avian field now for the better part of 30yrs. And have worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. And i've witnessed herons eating everything from; small ducks, rabbits, water rats, and other mammalian prey. Sea Eagles obviously have the advantage of their talons but they also respect larger herons because they know what their beaks are capable of inflicting.
Wow nice video, amazing hunting skills.
Thank you!
