Robert thank you so much for this video. I embarked with help from Ohio last early March, 2018 traveling to the OBX for a workamper job and a new chapter in my life. I had never towed before or camped in a travel trailer. I made it over the Blue Ridge Mountains during snow with a death grip on the steering wheel and inability to back my trailer. I avoided actual campsites and stayed at cheap motels. Lets just say I have had lots of help both backing and getting set up. Now I will be traveling to FL for my next assignment. I have been very embarrassed by the fact that I even after 6 months I still can't back my own home (little trailer) and didn't know how to hook up my weight dist. hitch. Thank you again for your straight forward instructional video on how to hook up my wt dist hitch. You rock! Hopefully some day I might met you in person.
Thank you. I am glad you found my video useful. To back in I use the bottom of the steering wheel rule. Whichever direction you want the trailer to go, that's where you should turn the bottom of the steering wheel.
One glaring mistake, if I may... You ought to cross your chains like an X, so that in case the ball and hitch mechanism come apart, the tow bar will safely drop into the cradle formed by the crossed chains.
Just returned from our Minnie-Winnie maiden voyage! I have watched all of your videos and have benefited so much. My wife and I had an excellent time! Many thanks to you (and your Mrs.) for taking the time to put these videos together. Helped me out tremendously! I may do a video as well (Pacific NW version)! :)
It just seems like something of a pita to have to go through this procedure *every* *time* a person wants to tow their trailer. The company that (hopefully someday) comes out with a way for trailer owners to JUST have to connect the hitch to the ball, without having to do everything so well demonstrated in the video, will make a billion dollars!
Good tutorial vid for the novice RV er Robert (with my Chevy Crewcab Dually pulling my little Jayco 145RB I don't need the sway control or equalizer hitch --have to check the mirrors to make sure my trailer is still back there !...LOL)
Great, informative video! I have a small travel trailer too and this is exactly what I needed to watch and refresh my knowledge since I don't take it out very often.
Hey Roberto, your Jersey micro minnie pal. This is probably the best hitch up video on you tube. I'm sure this will help so many people! As always, Love you videos.
Great vid Robert.. My WD hitch is a similar pain.. Traveling to FL next week and going to try it without the WD hitch.. (Just a conventional drawbar).. I'll bring my huge WD hitch in case the trailer misbehaves on me..
remind me next time to get an RV so I can boondock my way down to the keys. I live north of Florida border so you can imagine how long it took me to get down to the keys. I am planning to rent an RV next time. awesome vid as always.
Trailers are hard on automatic transmissions, especially on a smaller vehicle. Do you have an auxiliary transmission installed? If not, get the biggest cooler you can fit in there. Your transmission won't last long without one. It's also highly recommended to use quality gear oil in rear transaxle (assuming your Kia is rear wheel drive ). Amsoil is the best lubricant money can buy. I did not mean to sound like "know it all" but I used to work as a car mechanic and did a lot of towing with my 98 JEEP GC. Thank you for all your work making great videos.
I was referring to an auxiliary transmission cooler in my post above. Sorry, I noticed a word was missing but could not edit it once it was posted. Typing on a tablet touch screen sucks.
+Ray_Biker I have a rear wheel drive, and havent used a transmission cooler yet. I am mostly on flat terrain down here though. Maybe when I decide to travel north or west I'll get one installed, and eventually I'll get a heavier tow vehicle. Thanks!
Great video Robert... and superb quality as always! Question - do you notice any "porpoising" where the hitch point bobs up and down on the highway, usually over rough bridge joints, etc.? I have sway bars, but they don't seem to help the up & down, just the side to side sway.
Thanks for sharing...attach and detach...oh! One thing, do you need a brake control device for towing the RV? I have a 2020 Kia Sorento V6 without towing package pre-installed. Thanks!
I see how you stay so trim! :) Like you said, the first few times and you have it. You have the perfect narrator voice. I kind of thought you lived in Miami. Cool, better to go to the Keys! :) Thanks Robert.
Robert, that slide do-hicky that locks your ball in. Instead of a bolt maybe you should put a long shank padlock on it. That way when you stop for a break or even when you are stopped at a camp ground, it can prevent a lot of mischief. You don't need some wise guy loosening up your bolt or taking off with your camper. Plus bolts and nuts can back out and loosen over time. A lock is there to stay.
Hi Robert, Good instructional Vid, You look like a pro even though you haven't had her for a real long time. I went with a class C/B+ because while we where at the dealership, I watch a guy go through his instructional on the lot and I said motorize, here we come... LOL... Now my wife wants a toad.. I can't win..
+TravelingRobert Winnebago Aspect 27K. It doesn't have the over bunk so most call it a B+. It suits us just fine. She wants a toad so we can do what you do, and go see whats around without dragging around the RV.
+redjaguar100 Very nice rig. From the outside it kind of looks like a C but inside it is definitely a B+ and I would dare to say it almost feels like an A. Seems very comfortable. Although I was originally inclined to go for a large B+ like yours, lately I'm thinking maybe something a little smaller so I don't need a toad. We'll see, time will tell. I'm going back to the Tampa Supershow this January to look at more rigs. We are kind of in love with the Leisure Travel Vans, particularly the Serenity but it is out of our price range for the moment. Meanwhile the trailer serves us well, even if the witching up process is a little bit of a drag.
Thank you Robert for the video. Question about your seven pin wiring harness for the RV. We too have a Kia Sorento but have not had our harness upgrated to seven pin. Where did you get the upgrade for the trailer harness? Can anyone who does these trailer harness's do the upgrade or do I need to take SUV to the dealership? Are there any problems with the computer adapting with the harness? I have gotten two bid's for the job, just want to make sure there is no harm of frying the Suv computer. Thanks for your help.
Good morning Robert 👍 Great video of showing how to hook and unhook your travel trailer , also I would like to know do all those accessories come with the travel trailer or do you have to purchase them separately Im still hoping to buy me a Micro Minnie I’ve been looking online at a dealership that’s about a 2 hr drive from my house !!! Robert thanks for sharing !!! Have an awesome Tuesday !!! Danny
+TravelingRobert can you do a video where you show all your cameras how you put the camera on top of the trailer, your drone, your cameras for photos etc... id really like to see that, in your other videos it seems as if your camera has a large lens. that would be awesome (:
Robert Thank you for sharing your videos. Very informative and great work. I want to ask you. What Video editing program do you use to make your videos? How you categorized and organize your clips and link them together? You do an awesome work! The fact that you are a great singer it helps for the great voice-commentary. Would like to learn and understand your techniques. Not sure if you have done a video on this particular subject. It would be great and very helpful if you can expand on that. Love your videos man! Gracias!
+Armando Thank you Armando. I use Final Cut Pro X, and to be honest I am not very organized with the clips. I just make sure all the cameras have the correct date and time so Final Cut can organize them chronologically. I record the audio on Pro Toola or Logic. Maybe I'll do an instructional vide on that subject soon.
Great video! Just wondering what the towing capacity of your Kia is? I just bought a camper and the dry weight is 3095 pounds while our Mercedes has a towing capacity of 3500 pounds. Our trips will be short, within 30 miles or less. If we go further or in the mountains we will use a truck with more towing capacity.
+Daniel Carson Old Kia is 3500 as well and my Micro Minnie is just under 3000 dry. The only time I ran into trouble was in the mountains between Chattanooga and Nashville with my holding tanks nearly full. In flat lands as long as you go slow and tow with nearly empty tanks you should be ok. I l'm thinking of installing a transmission cooler. Everybody says it is a must.
Thanks for the reply. I live in North Georgia not too far from Stone Mountain as I'm sure you're familiar since I just finished watching you're video from there!
ive got a truck that will pull 11300 lbs pulling a 4000 lb camper and i made sure it had a transmission cooler in it. they are definatly a must if your pulling anything no matter what your car will pull.
Great, informative video! We are considering buying the 2016 2106FBS and have a 6 cylinder 4Runner. Think that is big enough to pull? It's rated for 4700-5000 lbs. Thanks!
+Barb Renkert Hello Barb I saw your post and wanted to know if you ever got your 2016 ? If so How do you like it. Any tips or tricks? I'm in the market for 2106fbs also and i have a toyota tacoma V6 and wanted to know how your like i? Thanks Jeff
No; we decided to hold off a year. We have some international travel plans and thought it didn't make sense to have a rig sit! Let me know if you get one!!
I’ve learned so much from your videos. I just bought a Minnie 2606RL, and decided to make videos of our travels. What do you use to edit your videos. I have Final Cut Pro I think.
Robert- we have a Micro Minnie 1700bh and are new to RV'ing. We've driven a few times and experienced a lot of sway with wind. We're getting the weight distribution system in 2 weeks. Do you notice a little sway even with the weight distribution?

Hi Robert. I am curious about your brand of weight distribution system with anti sway. What brand is it? If something happened to injure your hand while traveling could your spouse do the hitching and unhitching of that system? My husband has made it clear that he has no interest in camping with me and the kids (even though I know he will always come if only to be a thorn in my flesh). I have purchased my tow vehicle, and I have picked out the travel trailer I wish to purchase. I've looked at many you tube videos of "men" hitching and unhitching trailers. Some of those systems look hard for strong men. I am a 63 year old grandmother with poor strength. ....that is a pain in the ass. Buy a class A and attach a small motorcycle to the back. Or tow a car with a UHAUL tow dolly. They only run $55 each time you rent it.

Excellent advise. I've been doing it this way for years, first on my fishing boat, and now on my toad hitched up to our rv.
Also chalk wheels before detaching from tow vehicle.
i like the idea of lifting the tongue before tightening the chains...makes sense...also didn't realize the pins for the chain !!!
good stuff !!!
thanks. looking to buy my first travel trailer soon and will be needing a hitch like yours. now i know to use it
Thanks Robert, My maiden voyage will be Nov 2020. I have a MicroMinnie 2019 Winnebago
Just returned from our Minnie-Winnie maiden voyage! I have watched all of your videos and have benefited so much. My wife and I had an excellent time! +Matthew Gilbert You're welcome. Looking forward to your video.
I'm picking up our trailer this weekend, and this information is great!! I feel so much more comfortable now.
Thank you! I've watched several videos, and yours is the easiest to follow and understand so far!!
+Susan Moerschel Glad to be of help.
Bien hecho. A very nice demonstration by The Most Interesting RV'er in the World.
Stay camping, my friends.
+hayesman76 Thanks.
Hi Robert... your instructions are so well done in case I ever have a travel trailer, and I saw that your chains were crossed by the way.
Great job. I have my truck and will soon have a trailer. I'll be watching this a few times till I get it right.
It is not so bad after you get the hang of it.
Great video! I'm a newbie and I have been watching the video over and over again and I've learned alot. Lol I also took notes.
AWESOME video Robert very informative for a new rver! ☺
Good job Robert!! Great vid. God bless you.
Thank you
Thanks Robert, very informative

Great tutorial Robert. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome :-)
Great, informative video! I have a small travel trailer too and this is exactly what I needed to watch and refresh my knowledge since I don't take it out very often.
Thanks. It's like riding a bike.
Thanks. Very informational
Hey Roberto, your Jersey micro minnie pal. This is probably the best hitch up video on you tube. I'm sure this will help so many people! As always, Love you videos.
+carlos perez Thanks man!
+carlos perez Hey Carlos, someone created a Micro Minnie owners group on Facebook. Here's the link facebook.com/groups/425391114324531/
Great inputs . Very nicely done . Hope this concept should come to India fast.
Great video! Thanks for putting this out there.
+t34bravo Thank you! Glad you found it useful.
I have to say, this gentleman reminds me a little of Inspector Clouseau...
lmao...i was thinking the same thing...lol...i loved the pink panther too..lol
I guess I'm kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good website to watch newly released series online ?
@Alberto Daniel i use flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Mathias Zayd definitely, have been watching on flixzone for since april myself :)
@Mathias Zayd thank you, I went there and it seems to work =) I appreciate it!
Robert, Thank you so much for this! I am picking up my Micro Minnie today and am nervous about hooking it up. This helps a ton!! :)
+cara c Hey, happy trails.

Hey, let me know how it goes.
That basement storage us huge for a small trailer. Impressive!
That is one of my favorite features :-)

+dednrurc Yes, that is a long drive, as it is for me whenever I want to get out of Florida. I love RVing, every day more. Thanks!
Good and informative Video. Cant wait to buy my RV!
+Chef Holly Smith Thank you! Go ahead an buy it. The only thing you will regret is not doing it sooner.
Great Video Robert!!!!!
+Anuar Ferrera Thanks!

Great Videos!
Thank you

Remove or hold onto the leverage bar when putting in the pin so it doesn't have a chance to swing down and hit you.

good job

Great, informative video! We are considering buying the 2016 2106FBS and have a 6 cylinder 4Runner. Think that is big enough to pull? It's rated for 4700-5000 lbs. Thanks!

I am right now in the middle of switching from Final Cut to Adobe Premier, Mac to PC. I will be a painful process but I think better in the end.
Too many pins and bars. But I think this is part of the fun, ins´t ? Thank´s for sharing.
+Fábio Marcos Euzébio I wouldn't call it "fun", but after a while it is not as complicated as it looks. :-) Thanks!
Robert- we have a Micro Minnie 1700bh and are new to RV'ing. We've driven a few times and experienced a lot of sway with wind. We're getting the weight distribution system in 2 weeks. Do you notice a little sway even with the weight distribution?
+SoxRock If it is windy I do notice some sway. Also when a semi truck passes you on the interstate.
Gracias. Espero poder hacer algunos en español en el futuro
Thanks Robert. Great video. You convinced me not to get a travel trailer. I think I will probably end up with a truck camper and leave it mounted all the time. Either that or a Class C Motorhome. I will be traveling alone and don't need much space.
Just a nice place to shit, shave, shower, sleep and eat. A nice Lance truck camper will do for me.
It is not that bad... but eventually I will switch to a motorized RV of some kind.
George Herman check out the class B. It would be a good fit for you. It comes with the amenities you need.
Robert, what back-up camera are you using?
When I have to do it by myself I just use a GoPro, and monitor it on the phone.
Thanks so much for all your help.
Is your trailer hitch OEM or aftermarket?
The hitch receiver was OEM
Traveling Robert Ok. Thanks.
your tail lamp has water in it?
I know... it has been like that for a while.
Robert, what is the towing capacity of your auto?
3500lbs
Thanks!
third :) but nice video man
Thanks!
Yours looks easier than most, but I would appreciate you sharing your knowledge of whether or not your system would be appropriate for a woman of my age with carpal tunnel issues. Your insight would be much appreciated. Sincerely...
+Grandma Patty Some things require a bit of strength. The hitch itself is very heavy and the pins are hard to push in. The hitch is and Eaz Lift.
Thank you Robert. Please get your loved ones out of harms way. This hurricane will be devastating like Andrew was. Please take caution.
Cross your chains it's illegal the way that you hooked the RV up
....that is a pain in the ass. Buy a class A and attach a small motorcycle to the back. Or tow a car with a UHAUL tow dolly. They only run $55 each time you rent it.
No offence Robert, but I rather stick with with a C class, this seems too much work, lol
Hahah, it is not that bad. Actually we are thinking of a class B or a small C or B+ in the future
themurdo21 you wouldn’t say that if you were handicapped 😁
