    I remember this game. Barry Sanders, for those of us that were alive and watching, was on tv a lot. That was his blessing and his curse. Chuck Schmidt the GM for most of his career and the Ford family realized that they could sell out their stadium, make a profit of his jersey sales and get national exposure WITHOUT putting a lot of money into their team because of BARRY SANDERS. There's been a lot of chatter on what Sanders was and wasn't. Even in this very thread there are some making comments on his countenance. Sanders was never overly expressive, verbally or otherwise. He simply came to prepared to work and did his job better than just about any RB before him. The Ravens front seven has taken up residence in the Lions backfield for most of the game. NO RB is going to be productive with this type of penetration. He didn't lose yards because he gave up too much ground, made to many moves, there was SIMPLY NO PLACE TO RUN. This is game is a microcosm for the mans entire career. He played ten years for this franchise. 1,491 yards was an OFF year for Barry Sanders.

      I'm a native of Wichita. Barry Sanders is a legend here. Watching this man produce for the Detroit Lions in spite of the absolutely horrific management of the Lions franchise was both awesome and absolutely depressing. I'm 100% biased, however Barry Sanders will remain the best RB I've ever seen play. Absolute shame the Ford family wasted this man's career.

      Total bulksht. They maxed out their cap every year. Any fan who thinks the team didn't want to win, is an idiot. So it's all about the tickets sales, huh? Know what sells tickets? Winners.
      And they spent every legal penny they could.
      The problem was players like Barry, my favorite player, greatness, the face of Detroit, would hold out and not honor his contract, demanding more money. More money to him means less money to bring in free agents. Plain and simple. There is a salary cap. Understand it. Understand each year they maxed out their cap. So let's stop with the lies.

    • @joemattox7525
      @joemattox7525 7 місяців тому

      Interesting that you mention retirement. Barry actually retired on a miscommunication with the coach. The coach called Barry up really late because there had been rumors swirling about Barry retiring. Barry was barely awake and mumbling a little. He told the coach he was tired. The coach misunderstood what Barry said and thought he said retired. Next season the coach is fired. Barry had an escape clause in his contract stating that if the coach was fired that Barry had the option to become an unrestricted free agent. Barry found out and had decided to come out of retirement and exercise the escape clause. He signed all of the paperwork, and had actually became a dolphin. The lions franchise ended up taking it to court. The court ruled that since Barry was in retirement when the coach was fired, the escape clause was null and void. They even produced Barry Sanders, dolphins jerseys and there were like 30,000 sold in Miami. How great it could have been to watch Barry Sanders with Dan Marino at QB.

    Ray Lewis was great, of course, but he also was the king of piling on late when someone else actually made the tackle, and then jumping up to celebrate as if it was all him. No one celebrated other guy's tackles more than Ray Lewis.

    • @Michael-ii9fs
      @Michael-ii9fs Рік тому

      Ok, now you're talking some full retard. I'm a steelers fan, and I know better than that. Ray Lewis was NOT the king of celebrating other guys tackles. He was the teams hype machine for most of the time, and had an instinctive magnet for the ball. He'd almost always be near the play, not always first. But he absolutely blew up play after play, riding the coat tales of no freaking body. No. Body. Whether it was his tackle, a team tackle, someone else leading that he was there helping...whatever. Too many tackles by HIM to talk about trying to steal credit. He didn't need to. And popping Bettis and putting him down in his tracks...that's legit HIM. He bruised more than one back out of a game. But it was more about being where the ball was heading. He did that.

If he wasn't immediately swarmed at the point of the handoff, he would have likely had a typical day, with over 100 yards, doing many more, magical Barry things. That line was so awful but Barry really looked as explosive as ever. It was nice to see the crowd cheering his big 30 yard run. A great deal had come to see him play. Thanks for posting.

    This, the futility of being a legend and the only good player on the Lion's roster for many years, compiled with aging at a young man's position, and they were wearing the poor man out using him to run 15k yards and rumble through a trainwreck for a yard or two....I can see why Barry Sanders stepped back and called it quits not too long after this. But man. This video shows more than anything how much he needed a great O line lmao. He's not just dealing with Ray, he's got 3 Ravens picking him up in the backfield every play!
