Professor Redhook returns to his home town for the first time in over a decade, for some peace and quiet, and to face up to some uncomfortable truths about his past, in this John Carpenter/H.P. Lovecraft inspired horror.
However, Redhook is dragged reluctantly back into the world of the supernatural when an unearthly force attaches itself to him. This causes trouble not only for Redhook, but for the other residents of the guest house he is staying in...

@@OctoberFifteen a bit stall here and there but this is thing Lovecraft did best and more or less, a touch within a touch. I feel like as opposed to the story that's been told over and over, the old man did it's best to act accordingly to script, sadly we don't see something that's coming within him speaking of touches.. overall, it could've been clocked at 10m some and a bit thought over. Colin Lacativa's score is so damn good I was going to compare it to Stranger Things, then I noticed it came out WAAAAAAAY before that show. Superb! I especially liked the scene where she is getting dragged across the bedroom towards the closet, I only wish she was actually pulled in like a whole monster in the closet thing. Excellent characters ... well acted .
Is this part of a series ?
The old Prof , tired and introspective .
He has the look of a pro who has seen too much .
    Worn thin .
The local girl with a personality that could curdle milk at twenty five meters .
The “ one step beyond “ feel you engendered with the soundtrack and camera angles .
The visuals were spot on .
    Extremely well done .
My only complaint is the climax was too short , too simple .
    A wave of a hand ?
It left me wanting something darker and more difficult .
After that buildup , you know .
I know , being a short , you were pressed for time .
Still , someone with your talent can manage it .
I expected the girl to turn on him .
Try to make him the cause of it all .
It would fit with her world view .
And be the tool of the entity(s?) because of it .
Her conversion came a little too easily .
Smart that he recruited her .
Her type can be very clever and tenacious .
Better under one’s eye , than perhaps meddling and snooping , getting in the way .
Too late to misdirect her , or placate her with banal explanations .
The Shadow forced his hand .
She caught a glimpse of the secrets he keeps .
    Trouble for sure .
He , as a professional , needs to practice better OPSEC .
    He was distracted , I suppose .
Still , bad form , and all that .
She made him within minutes of him being there .
Still , it was very good .
I am going to search now , and see if you have made any other shorts about the adventures of our good Professor Redhook ... . he is an engaging character .
    Update :
    You have made more !
I’m off to watch them now .

Hey man, thank you so much for the amazing feedback. It really makes me happy when someone engages with the content we've created, and I love how you've really taken to this film and the characters. I'll try and address some of your issues without labouring any of my points, or coming across like I'm 'defending my position' too strongly as I really do value your opinions here. I'll just be giving a little insight into the process of making the film.
There are two other short films set in this 'universe'. One is called 'The Teeth of the Stars':
      ua-cam.com/video/mkbb5PjMEUs/v-deo.html
and takes place before 'The Quiet Season'. The other is called 'Feeder':
      ua-cam.com/video/j4wauXTHKJY/v-deo.html
and it's set in the same building from the start of 'The Teeth of the Stars'.
It was always our intention to make a series of Redhook films, including two feature films which never got off the ground due to financing and other problems. Scripts have been written and stories developed, so if you have any more questions about Professor Redhook and his other unfilmed adventures, please feel free to ask.
You have rightly pointed out some issues with the film and I'll try to address them. 'The Quiet Season' was written and shot in just 3 days, after a friend asked us for some new content for a film festival. We were happy to oblige, but obviously we needed to move fast, so things like the abrupt ending and Redhook's terrible OPSEC would've (hopefully) been improved upon. No excuses as these are issues I reflect on myself, but I like to think that with more time to develop the script we could've had much more elegant and satisfactory solutions for those issues.
Again, thank you for taking the time to watch my film and leave your great feedback, it's truly appreciated. I hope you find your way to viewing the other films on my channel, and hopefully I'll be able to earn your subscription, and maybe even your recommendation to other.
      Best wishes to you sir.

      Three days ?
      Amazing ...truly so .
I am familiar with a few intelligence and covert military types .
They live and breath tradecraft .
I realize the professor is a civilian advisor , but he is deep into the game .
So the rules of clandestine operations apply for him as well .
To have lived this long , he must be very good .
You wrote him very well .
I’m fascinated by the idea of covert operators who are involved not just with human opposition , evil as they may be , monsters in the flesh ... but with paranormal ones as well .
There is a lot of room in this universe you created for storytelling...
Not just them doing it , but how they feel about it ... the toll it takes on them .
Ancient texts , secret knowledge ... hidden meanings and an overarching storyline that progresses and gets bigger .
Opposition that can alter reality , now that is terrifying .
You do the Lovecraftian backstory and provenance very well .
      Excellent .
It almost has the flavor of something like The Mangus Archives .
As we learn more about the Professor , and the organizations he is associated with ... the operations he’s been on ... always by hints , allusions , and snippets of information dropped a little at a time , our need to know more grows right along with it .
You really do have something here .
I hope you explore it , and let us come along for the ride .
      Best regards... well done .

Deflect , distract , misdirect ... outright lie ... but always be very careful never to let them close to your operations or your true feelings and beliefs .
Use them , but do so cautiously .
They are not logical creatures , and who knows what can cause one to turn on you .

So many people try to recreate or replicate cosmic horror and fail because they don't truly understand what it really is and then try to pass it of as"Lovecraftian" because they make a bunch of references and the big bad thing is unkown... It's infatuation without understanding so all these short fims come across as empty and poorly delivered. I mean, there are things that could have been improved, but if you ever want to make it as a critic, you need to say more than one word.
For example: The edgy name and terse, unchallenging mode of your comment suggests that you are someone who lacks the ability to grasp even the tiniest nuance in the media that you consume as entertainment; this leads to you angrily lashing out in bitterness due to your own comprehension (or, as I said, lack thereof).
