That last look of despair as he's preparing to drop the lighter is perfect. It could have been as much him bracing himself for the end as it could him sighting some great and terrible thing beyond the cusp of the windowsill. Actor was bomb.
The actor is perfect, depicting a growing level of insanity in ways I have not seen on film before. He is completely believable in this portrayal, and the film is brilliantly made.
The Shining. Nobody does it like Jack.
How has this not gotten more attention!?! This was outstanding! The writing, cinematography, and performances were all so very excellent. 10/10 work.
Thank you!
@@erikwoolcott556 You're absolutely welcome! You deserve all the praise you get and more!
Dude found the mother of all treasures! The statue of the dreaming old one, one of the crowns of the great priests and the book of the dead itself! Awesome triple combo!
You seem to know a bit about lovecraft! Id be so down to hear about if youre willing man! I hell wanna learn more but dont know where to start
@@McJizzleBerries Hello! You can always look up '' Lovecraft ''' on youtube and fall into the rabbit hole of all the creators that talk about his work. There's some really interesting stuff out there! I'm fairly new myself, but so far I've read The Mountain of Madness, The Dunwich Horror, The Shadow over Innsmouth, The Case of Charles Dexter Ward (this one was really a good place to start!). You can look also for '' cosmic horror '' and study the genre, it's pretty neat :)
@@Fantomatika Oh trust me I have already xD so In-depth that I feel like I’ll never learn everything about it
@@McJizzleBerries I figure you already had lol and I totally understand you! The more you learn, the more you feel like you don't know anything
This is amazing! The way it nods to Call of Cthulhu and depicts the main character's descent into ever deepening madness and despair as he learns more and more of things he ought not know is fantastic!
it's actually disheartening to see how little engagement this short has received. You deserve more views and recognition. Great work.
It got a lot of awards in the film festival circuit. UA-cam is a big world with strange rules.
This film is absolutely perfect, a pure and unaltered vision of the absolute chaos that cosmic horror represents. Kudos to the main actor for his performance, the cry of utter horror and despair as he flips through the book, trusty haunting.
These horror shorts are in many ways better then big blockbuster horror movies.
Agreed. I finally watched Tenet yesterday - Leviathan is considerably more effective.
Hollywood don't care about cósmic horror movies man
Sometimes you don’t need to make a full feature length movie to tell a story.
Incredible, this horror is beautiful. It encapsulates fear beyond our own experience as a human.
Excellent writing and excellent acting: a wonderful addition to Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos.
Holy moly, that was a heartwrenching depiction of growing madness. I'm clicking around youtube looking at random things, and I'm not disappointed in the least!
Thus film is complete art, a perfect representation of what cosmic horror is all about. The way the man was driven to mere animalistic cries of horror by the end, really conveys the feeling he is degrading with every step further he takes into the dark.
Damn. This is I think the first depiction of the true depths of insanity Lovecraft meant to convey the eldritch knowledge caused in his work. Loved it!
Incroyable, une direction artistique qualitative et une ambiance aussi glauque que dans les nouvelles de Lovecraft. Très bon travail, merci à vous 👌
Excellent evocation of madness. The hiding of the overt horror is the best horror. Americans have been fed a steady diet of cheap thrills and flashy tricks. Other parts of the world.....they do it right.
Have you seen the modern adaptation of Color Out of Space? It's really good because it was made with the same rules that Lovecraft established. They delivered on that movie. I also like the new Halloween movies because they continue where the originals left off in the best way. Those movies are believable because that shit could actually happen.
12:25 Alien Cameo
WOW ! that was intense ! Really well done…super acting too 👍
Nice, a piece of art that’s actually Lovecraftian for once. Very excellent!
For once a UA-cam recommendation that fitted. This little movie was near perfection. I am a long time Call of Cthulhu player (P&P and Larp) and can say: the visualisation, acting and especially (at least for me) the play with colours were among the best I have ever seen, maybe even *the* very best. Just one little minus: the story of "this is the research of your father" happens far to often. Overall a 10,5 out of 10. Every single price you won is well earned.
Very well done, gripping from start to funish
With all the awards this has received, how has this not had more views? A truly top notch short, far better than so many other full length feature films, I’m very happy I found it in my list of recommendations.
Amazing!
I went back and watched it with the sound off.
It is still amazing!
Great work by all involved.
This is easily the most impressive Lovecraftian short I have ever seen.
Well Done!
Yo that was actually amazing, why does this not have at least a million views??
I can appreciate this film in many ways.
I am not sure why someone unwashed in mythos would be able to make much of it.
That was intense. One of the best I have seen so far. Be blessed
Very well done, truly horrifying.
Wow.
That is what cosmic horror is about.
I'm a huge fan of cosmic horror and I really wanted to like this but it just didn't do it for me. Possibly because I read the description before I watched and it set up too many expectations. "When a man delves deep into his late father's last investigation, he begins uncovering secrets mankind was not meant to know."
The overall quality was still great.
Remarkable, truly. The look of insanity on Alonso's face at the end rivals that of Barbara Crampton's in Stuart Gordon's films of Lovecraft. Gave me the chills. Great job!
O sentimento de angústia está muito bem conseguido. Bien hecho.
Loved it. Especially with the man's growing sense of dread that is finely paced up the end. This story will grab you and take you with it.
I REALLY WISH WE HAD SUBTITLES IN THIS BRILLIANT ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT FILM,,,,STILL,,,,,,FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!
This SO makes me want to play Eternal Darkness. I mean that as a total compliment. There are those that capture the spirit of reading Lovecraft for me and this nailed it.
nice lovecraftian feeling to it.
Brilliant!!!!!! and great acting!!!!!! WOW!
Outstanding job! The atmosphere, the decent to madness, the music and the effects. All of it. I'm blown away!
I found myself cringing when the research was roughly treated, put out of order and otherwise mishandled by the protagonist. My inner librarian/researcher was howling at this abuse. No wonder THEY came for him......
Wow...! Amazing all around. Fantastic work...!!!
Outstanding actor!
Bloody hell! Give this man an Oscar!
This is so good.
Really well done, fantastic actor. Its amazing how believable he looked in his emaciated state at the end.
Pleasantly disconcerting, it nailed atmosphere
Great short. Should've opened with the father's monologue and death though for foreshadowing. Would've added a looming dread for the son too as he looked deeper into "pandora's box" and given more reference for his obsession with the lighter. The son could've even still found the recording. I also would've loved to have seen a shot of the lighter's fire over the face of the father in the picture when he holds it up to it. Just 2 cents you didn't ask for. Great short though.
The same thing happens to me when I read the necronomicon while smoking crack. 🤣
Great acting, amazing really.
Me: **watches this**
My sleep: *Adios*
Great story line
His father was insane to begin with and he succumbed
😳😲🤪🤯. 👏👏👏
Now, does it go in my collection under *C* or *L?*
Yeah I don't really get what's going on
Agent Squiddy I think the lighter represents the Flame of Madness and his facial hair mocks him as the Beard of Despair. His shirt is an obvious nod and sly wink to Bolshevism.
Wilco CRS-1049 spotted at 3:12 👍
This is great
THATS ME THATS ME
It reminded me of the feeling I had readind The King in Yellow
Call of Cthulu 2: Electric Boogaloo
im confused, if he wanted to set himself on fire, why did he douse himself with water
@@oyc7946 the canister he pours over himself says "Agua desionizada" which translates to deionized water. Maybe its a mistake?
@@tincanstantheman feels intentional to represent the descent of madness
Petrol also fits into water bottles quite neatly, somehow...
@@mantzface But if it was petrol the moment the sparks from the lighter were lit the vapors the gas has already produced would immediately blow up
Acting is good, but what the story is all about?
Extremely well done!!
This is so genuinely disturbing
Yeah, ummm, No. When we got to the end I could relate to the guy who lit himself on fire.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.
👍👍👍
Good acting. It's just alright otherwise. An extremely condensed version of Call of Cthulhu pretty much.
Indeed. People are going bananas because they haven't seen extreme emotion acted out too often I think. It did nothing interesting form a cinematographic stand point, mostly flat shots of the guy looking around in acute bewilderment.
🦑
Good... ☝️😎
Hey easy man.. Be gentle with the papers..
YAWN
This WAS DOPE! THIS WAS SO GOOD, I WAS INSANE BY THE END TOO!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿🥨💯💯
Don’t read Necronomicon...
Lo lamento, un coñazo.
The poor guy found out he was just a DeSoto car to his dad, a vehicle, (like the Vatican uses the name Jesus Christ/God as a vehicle, yet break all 10 commandments). His last lesson, how a mike sliney engine works, combustion.
Lots of pointless suffering, I don't get it.
this wasnt good.
Right. It was escellent.
The gasoline would've ignited immediately from the zippo from fumes alone.
But sweet Lovecraft short
