- These pretty (ugly) banana plants have to go 2021!
Struggling cold hardy banana plants can damage the entire banana mat and need to be cut. Whether a winter banana problem, lack of fertilizer, compost or mulch, you sometimes have to cut a banana tree or banana plant. Naked blooms will never yield banana fruit healthy enough to survive the multi month ripening process.
Beware of the banana blood when chopping down the banana plants. It will stain your clothes forever.

@@SimplyBananas1 so far all I know is coffee grounds have been magic! It has exploded after I put some coffee grounds on top, to try to snuff out the lil fruit flies or nats what ever they were and it has worked wonders for the bugs and the plant!!
Hello Frank! Do you have any fertilizer suggestions for banana plants? I have some bananas plants in Charleston that definitely need a boost. I see you have grown huge banana plants also in Charleston area. I am heavily influenced by your achievements. Do you personally fertilize your banana plants?
Thank you
Sorry...I have been out of the country.
10-10-10 works well....ONLY during the growing season....don't use any chemical fertilizer until mid April.
Thank you! Do you have a video about how to clean your tools after working in the banana patch?
Not yet!
Any secret discovery as to stopping a hardy banana plant from producing pups? 🤔🤞
I have 3 going on their 3rd year on Eastern shore of Virginia, just 3 weeks ago I removed all pups (20 of them) and potted them up for family and friends. There are currently another 22 pups on these 3 plants and I just dont have the pots or soil to pot them all up and would love a secret to stopping pup production. 🤷 Sadly this batch of pups will be used in the compost bin or pile. 😭
It is said that a plant produces pups when it is doing well or when it is stressed. So unfortunately, I do not have an answer.
I feed the leaves and stem pieces to the ducks. have never seen a banana plant with such few and scrawny bananas. Is that some kind of genetic mutation?
No...it is a lack of certain nutrients and winter conditions.
@@SimplyBananas1 Interesting because I have never seen that happen here. We do not have a winter so that may be why.
@@chargermopar thats probably correct!
My plant flowered and produced about two decent racks right before a freeze. Some parts of bananas are dark brown/black and no more bananas were produced. But the plant does have leaves and continued leaf growth. Do I cut it down? Are my bananas stunted? Thanks
You have new leaves growing after it fruited?
@@SimplyBananas1 I went back again after watching your video. Unfortunately it didn’t have enough green leaves. Just two very stunted green leaves. I cut it down. Thanks for the helpful video.
Do you have lady finger bananas
not really
