Joe, what a fantastic looking project and as has already been said here, happy wife = happy life. Your daughter is shooting up and her "user testing" was delightful. Take care and all the best from the UK.
Thanks Tony! She actually came out and saw it for the first time and said.."oooh, that's pretty..." and that was good for me! and yes, happy wife does equal a happy life:) ... been thinking about you right now... been raining for the last two days with wind of 30-50mph gusts during the whole time. The rain was welcome but the wind... I could do without...lol
Hello! My grandfather has build similar stool at the Soviet Union era I keeping this at our family farm still now. Thank you for your video I'm exiting? When I go back from Guangzhou I will do restoration of stool.
Thanks for watching the build everyone! If you have any constructive comments or questions... please post them below:) But if you are wanting to talk/argue about an unrelated subject with another person... there are lots of other places to do so. I've recently seen subjects pop up where commenters are arguing with one another on issues with no relation to the video subject. Please be cordial and remember that sometimes it's better to walk away and just 'agree to disagree'. Thanks:)
That "performance" testing looked like a lot of fun, haha. This is such a good example of why every wood worker should get into welding. Great project as always
Thanks so much DM! Yes it was nice when I got it all tacked together and it was still level...lol... i was concerned I might get it done and have it out of level:)
homesteadonomics Yeah, I have a fear of failure when I do certain projects. As long as we learn from any mistakes it is still worthwhile in my book, because the knowledge gained will serve you well in the future. I have probably learned more from my failures than my successes. Like lately making adobe bricks right before it rains... Looking forward to the next project!
haha.. yes, for sure! ... and speaking of adobe, that's a project that I've wanted to tackle at some point. You have a mix you like? are you adding cement for more durability?
Cool stool. Reminds me of the stool I sat on when I was working for an architect in an office that had no a/c. After I was done, I asked if I could buy the stool from him, but he said no. My former boss moved back to Jamaica a month later, taking all office furniture with him.
Nice build. You've really gotten good at welding in a short time. Your channel has also quickly made it into my top 5 favorite channels!! I see 100k subscribers soon.
Thanks so much Wayne! I appreciate the good words.. but I don't see getting to 100k for at least another year or two. I don't do any promotion of videos, and am generally very weak with other social media.. these are just my little hobby projects:) I've seen some other diy channels this last year go from like 10k to 150k in like 6months.... which is awesome for them but I don't really understand the finer details of growing a channel. I just make the best videos I can at the time and just hope folks like them :D I very much appreciate the kind words sir and I hope to keep improving:) Joe
Great looking stool! Nice job and especially liked the "safety testing" Ha ha ha ha! (I will miss seeing the "well worn" ladder stool) LOL It looks like the adults may have to barter for a turn on the stool! :) Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Very nice and neat too! Just an idea, maybe adding rubber for the stool's feet will prevent hurting someone and the floor :) . Love this very inspiring.
Thanks so much Kerby! ...but just remember that I only show the 'good' welds and keep the other ones out of the frame...lol:) But I am getting better and this welder has been awesome to use:)
Thanks Drunkinone! It was definitely the most fun part... but you didn't get to see when I almost knocked the camera down and fell off the stool trying to save it... wasn't recording otherwise I would have put it in...lol:)
Excellent! I enjoy your projects and style. One problem . . . I bet you will end up having to build a matching industrial style computer desk to match that awesome stool.
Hey Joe, great job. I like these magnetic angle parts which you use there. I had in my video in which I installed the curtain rod a similar problem. I solved the problem by let the thread in the nut. So could be prevented deformations ... I have welded the nut through slots which I cut previously in the tube. It is difficult to weld near the thread..... Finaly hope that Google translater did his job here.... ;-) have a nice weekend!
Hi Chris, Sorry for the super slow reply:) Yes, those magnets are super cool and useful. I'm gonna have to go check out that video now:) talk to you later Chris! Joe
I have watched this one before. This is a really cool stool and you do a very good job on it. I enjoy your videos and the lifestyle you seem to have. Please keep letting us in on the rainwater harvesting... I had considered that a non workablle, but actually the only thing that looks scary is putting that untreated water into my wife and me. Do you treat at all, a little bleach oro just drink as is. Doo you have it tested? Do you have any mosquito breeding in the cistern problems?
Great looking stool man. I always leave a bolt or some threaded rod in the nut when I weld them... It usually keeps the threads in tact... You have to cover the exposed threads with tape so spatter doesn't make them "permanent" :D
thanks Greg! Yes, that was something I just wasn't sure about. I tacked it with the rod in place but then I got scarred that the spatter might start attaching to the rod threads so I took it out...lol... in the back of my mind I was kind of assuming my father in law might have to bail me out... and he did;) thanks for checking it out
Thanks Charl! The new welder has made a difference for sure:) Of course I only show the half way decent welds on the video...lol:) ... I hope your 2017 is a great one too... if you find your work taking you back to texas you should reroute through Tucson and say hi:) haha.. I know that would be WAY out of your way but it would be cool to meet you in person:)
Sweet stool, nice work! Did you cover the feet with anything? If you are looking for an idea, Lowes sells 1/4" thick felt stick on pads that work great. I have used them in the past for some furniture items of mine.
Another great project Joe. Your princess appreciates your work a lot in addition to your sweetheart. Was that a glint of gray in the back of the head shot? Nah, must have been the light reflecting just right to make the optical illusion. What date do you usually use to plant your tomato and other plants in sunny SoAZ? Just giving you a chance to rub it in a bit.
hahaha... the balding is in the back but most of the gray hairs are on the sides of the head...lol ... and don't worry I can't rub it in regarding the seed starting... last year I started them on jan 1, and this year I haven't started them yet...eeeek... my wife and I will probably do so in the next few days:)
Thanks RB! the mask is an RZ mask... they are comfortable and fit underneath my welding mask too... I've had a bad habit of not using a mask for years but ever since I got these I've been more apt to use them as the straps are simple and quick. here is a link to them on amazon amzn.to/2j4sae0 ps... I get a commission from these links but get them where ever you find them cheapest :)
Hey Joe, You ain't whistling Dixie. So my whistle guess is Darude, Sandstorm. Joe, do you have any worries about the legs scratching the floor? Simple fix is to glue on some felt to the washers. What an artisan, full talented..loved it all..
The dipping of the legs in paint 👍 mind blown. Nice build
thanks Mark... I saw someone use that technique years ago and I just thought... wow, super simple and effective:)
joe
I love that artistry
Your wife must be proud of you. Very nice stool.
Best regards from Norway Trond Martinsen
Awesome! Your wife is a blessed woman, and so is your sweet little princess! 👪💞

using the bowl of paint to mark the legs was an awesome idea! definitely a tip I can use for my projects
Thanks Mike!

Awesome job, Joe! Looks like that thing held up to some pretty serious performance testing too!
Thanks Braxton! It was fun and yes, it was even more stable than I figured it would be!
Cool build
Awesome job.
I love your videos. You are very talented. Sweet pipe posing at the end. Cheers!
I like your channel you make great projects.

funky stool, saved yourself some serious cash, and earned some serious brownie points with the wife, a good days work.
Thanks Mackey! So much better than the step ladder we had and the wife agrees on the brownie points :)
This is amazing, you are very talented. I wish I lived in ur area I would not mind a stool for my study area. Thank again for a great video.
Thanks so much Fadsad! If you ever find yourself out here you can give this one a test spin :) thanks for watching and the kind words! :)
Joe
Love your work

Молодец !!! Очень простой и удобный стул. Мне нравятся Ваши DIY.

NICE! Very impressed with your welding skills! And by impressed, I mean jealous! Looks great!

Excellent job on the stool Joe... It looks great ! Thanks for sharing. 126
Thanks Marc!
Great job! It is a really nice stool!
I love the leveling trick with the paint!
thanks Gregory! Yes, the paint is just like using a scribe tool... except works well on curved surfaces where as the scribe doesn't:)
Looks. like a fun build. Loved it.
Nice work 👍
I like the performance test. Cheers =)
Thanks Drunkinone! It was definitely the most fun part... but you didn't get to see when I almost knocked the camera down and fell off the stool trying to save it... wasn't recording otherwise I would have put it in...lol:)
Really cool!
Stepladder is a great idea too! :)
Have a great weekend everyone!
Thanks so much Luan!

Nice job,I have some old roller stands i might convert to stools like this!
Cool project, it came out great!
Thanks Dimitri!
nice work!
Excellent! I enjoy your projects and style.

Thanks so much Aleksander! Great to here from Slovenia:)

Gracias por el aporte, realmente épico.
I enjoy your channel. How does the Forney compare to other welding machines you've used? What part of AZ are you in?
Nice stool. How do you like the Forney MP welder. I'm considering purchasing one from a local store.
Are you posting new videos after your hail storm. I love your independent spirit.

Hi mr., I am from Indonesia, I like waching you
Wow, great work.. are you a welder by trade? You seem like you know what you're doing.
Me gusta tu trabajo y me caes bien, saludos desde ahome Sinaloa mexico
Muy buen trabajo. Saludos desde Barcelona Catalonia. Pd.tu hija es preciosa,Felicidades./
I really like this!
Are you a home taught welder? I am working for my welding degree and I have to say, thos are some fairly good looking welds!
Thanks Matt! Yes, I'm home taught and still pretty amateur for the most part. I can stick metal to metal... but still got a lot of way to go. That's awesome you're doing some formal training! homesteadonomics your welcome!
Have you tried tig welding? That's my favorite process!
I haven't done TIG yet... but I've heard it is the thing I'll most likely graduate too. I first started with stick.. now mig... but TIG definitely sounds super cool! I've heard if you want the strongest nicest looking weld in the most pleasurable environment (less smoke, noise)... then tig is it :)

Super nice stool, what size is the threaded rod?
RealNICE!
Can you share your material list. Where you bought it and the name and cost?
Nice
Yes! I love it. Cute kid. :)
Thanks Douglas! Your stool video was one of the inspriations behind this project. ...the weld quality isn't up to RW standards... but I'm still learning... and that means a lot of grinding...lol
btw... I got the sanding disks based on your video on them :) ... love them!
I know this is an old video but I am hoping you see this and reply.. Do you have some measurements for the lengths of rod and pipe? I am thinking this might be a good project for my metals class but I am not good at guessing lengths from pictures.
Thank you,
Exelente 🙂👍
Nice work.... 👌 keep it up and happy new year 2017 I hope u make most amazing stuff this year
Thanks so much Sandyman:)
