  • The Standing Guillotine Choke can be a nasty submission that makes people get gun shy with their takedowns.
    Typically I've seen two common mistakes people make when they are coming in for a single leg or double leg takedown and get caught in a Guillotine Choke.
    First is that they freeze. Instead of adjusting and making angles. They have a oh shit, deer in the headlights, moment and freeze up. Then they're submitted.
    The other mistake I see really often when stuck in a standing guillotine choke is that they continue to drive straight forward right into the person's full guard. Which pretty much seals the deal for them.
    I've done previous videos talking about head positioning and how important it is. You can check that video out here.

    As I share in a lot of my videos. I use a lot of wrestling with my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. So in this video I show some basic adjustments that will help you blast through the guillotine choke with a double leg takedown.
    You'll beat the submission and you'll also end up in side control.
    So if you're getting caught in the guillotine choke when you're practicing or competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Check out the video and start drilling the technique.
    Even if you're not getting caught. The tips in the video will help make sure you don't get stuck when trying to do a double leg takedown in BJJ.
    I hope the video helps!
    Thanks!

      Can you also move forward Straight but still look up keep the head up and be save from the guillotine? Or you always need to take the body to the side to be save from the guillotine?

    This is exactly how i like to shoot the double leg. But the problem with this variation is see how thr guys left leg is kinda blocking the transition into lifting the opponents right leg. This gets more difficult as you are trying to push forward as well. If your penetrative step is right leg it works much better as you have more space on your left to lift up the leg to your vaist

    cool to see a double without drop-step on a primarily grappling channel. I just wonder though, aren't people's postures in jiu-jitsu usually a too low to get the double without drop-stepping?

    Hi there,
    Just wondering where the thyroid or adam's apple (front of the neck) should be after doing this and secured a full side control?
    I remembered doing this double leg take down while my buddy secured a guillotine. I took him down and secured a side control except that my buddy still has his guillotine on me and still able to choke me out (since I was on side control I was not inside his guard).

    • @yahboip
      @yahboip 3 роки тому +1

      It should be a lot harder to secure the choke in side control. it can usually only be secured in full and sometimes half guard in my experience. Maybe you ended up on the wrong side of him, and in that case the choke is stronger. However if he still has the guillotine and you are on the opposite side of the choke, I would personally try to secure the von flue choke which uses that awkward shoulder positioning to tap my opponent.

    What's the philosophy behind not dropping the knee for a lower double, like in a traditional wrestling shot? I could see the advantage being more control over the body to achieve side control, but it seems like it'd be harder to really take someone's legs out...

    • @rryuan
      @rryuan 7 років тому +1

      Rolling Kneebar In a self defense situation you might be on concrete or rock and chances are the assailant would be upright. In BJJ and MMA you tend to see more up right stances than in wrestling as well. But you'll notice in a few of those he did drop to a knee.

    • @brandenvawter83
      @brandenvawter83 6 років тому +2

      ViperTheLeo go right into giotine defense. After they sprawl they're probably going to fall back to guard to try to finish. So as soon as they sprawl. Give up on the take down. Grab and hold their wrist of the arm around your neck. Once they pull you down into their guard. Don't let go keep holding their wrist. It relieves some of the pressure. And buys you time. Next stand up butt up kinda balancing on top of your head while still holding the wrist. Use your other hand to push inside their knee. To open their legs now you can pass to the opposite side. Now the giotine gone. This defense works really good. Since no answer I thought I would help you. Try it have someone put you in a giotine from their guard. Follow these steps 1. Hold wrist 2. Stand butt up balance on top of your head 3. Push inside knee to open their guard 4. Pass to the opposite side then your out.

      if you lost the leg, dump/short drag series. if one doesn't work switch to the other. a guillotine isn't a good pair for a sprawl if your intention is to sprawl, not compared to a wizzer

    • @danieljulian5172

      Can be tough. But I think the whole point of the double leg is to end up in side control. It's a bit harder for someone to prevent where they land if they have no hands. If you shoot in at an angle and do not pause, you should be able to explode into side control. Also, he shows some neat tricks in this video as well: ua-cam.com/video/w-ujdv5W5lw/v-deo.html

    • @joshuaschwartz4994
      @joshuaschwartz4994 6 років тому +1

      Yes, the idea is to end up in side control. So basically what that means for the shooter is to clear his legs so you don't end up in his guard. To do that you should get good elevation (brings his legs up high) just like a normal double and clear them almost like passing his guard mid air. Always helps to come down on him with some force ;)

      I know im 10 months late, but if you get the takedown you dont really need to get your head out. Connect that crossface and underhook, then drive your shoulder in their throat for the von flue. Thats if you manage to land in side control like Chewy

    Hey chew good stuff, but I've always been taught also like the leg up I'm turning the corner! When I turn the corner they never get me in that choke ever because I'm biting his tit get off! That's how our Dan Gable at least taught us at the Iowa intensive camp in such :)

    • @rollingkneebar3534
      @rollingkneebar3534 7 років тому

      Ty Hatfield This is probably a strange question, but when you start running after turning the corner, do you take small choppy steps or do you use larger strides? I'm lanky and I have long legs so I sometimes find it hard to generate a lot of lateral power with that run, especially against someone with a much lower center of mass...

  • @Patrick33194

    Hey. I'm a newbie, but I wonder this: what if you guillotine choke someone like that and just drop trough your knees and land on your back (and on his head) as soon as you have the choke?
    Isn't that very effective? I don't see it happen outside streetfights

    This unfortunately isn’t solving the problem- it stops you getting guillotine choked when you move to the other side of the opponents body in side control and pop the head up when driving through, but the guy NEVER let’s go as they were in this demonstration, they ALWAYS headlock you really tight

      Lukas Sportsfreund bigger guys are of course going to be harder to takedown because there heavier a little trick is to drag them in one direction before the takedown to stuff their balance

      Yeah. Shooting any sort of double leg on some one 40kg's heavier than you is probably a bad call. Might be time for a swing single.
