One tip to minimise the effort while turning a tight turn: Avoid keeping the vehicle too much outside or inside the track. That will make reversing difficult. Instead, keep the vehicle in the middle of the turning track so there remains some margins both at the front end and at the back end.
Sachin ji, a very good and sensible tip and that works most of the time except in tight traffic/busy streets and on tight hairpin bends on hills. Which makes the vehicle to maneuver difficult and slower in some cases. But yes, in most other cases it is worth the following tip. Thanks for contributing and commenting 👍
Jimny's 5.7 meter turning radius is a big problem considering Mahindra's Roxx's is 5.3 only. I think Maruthi should do something about this. Otherwise Jimny is a very capable machine . Your vlogs are really informative and useful. Keep it up .
Thank you my friend, I am glad you like videos and they are helpful. It's main issue on hairpin bends in narrow terrains and very tight and crowded streets. I am also not very sure, if I am not wrong ROXX is having 5.5 if not more than that. Actually, Mahindra did not reveal it in most public literature. You have rightly said 5.7 is too much. Thanks for contributing and commenting 😊👍
I really acknowledge your concern about my friend and it is there obviously, may be some of us get habitual of it but this is not the point. You know the biggest issue is Maruti sold so many vehicles when it was launched without a demo car. Very unfair practice. BTW, soon you will see a detailed video on the power and torque of Jimny. And that's going to be a detailed analysis. Thanks for contributing and supporting 😊👍
This is from Bhimbra, must present in all big cities. It is a top model. If possible watch the modification video on why I chose this model among 3-4 types available. That video is part of JIMNY COOKBOOK SERIES playlist, sir! Feel free if you have more questions and all the best! ✨👍
Good informative video. Siyaapa Mukao was good one.😂 I had these apprehensions but driving a Jimny, I find the vehicle nimble enough for the city and thin mountain roads. Small footprint covers up things good enough,
Another great BBQ receipe ! My only understanding of Maruti Suzuki is - thanks to lax consumer laws in India MSIL gets away scotfree. Its cheaper for them to discontinue a vehicle rather than reengineer the same.Their tech staff have no passion for the product but are quick to cover up by saying "its an offroader Sir" especially when I approach them regarding the infamous off centre steering wheel issue after several botched up attempts !
Anil ji, thank you so much for your continuous support. I am 100% support your point of view. You raised such a critical aspect especially within the automobile industry many big shots refrain from saying this. Even though Suzuki is so loveable in the country but the dark side is not just Suzuki but many others play with the safety of the consumers. And needless to say who led that. Thanks for contributing and commenting. These are valuable inputs. 🤝😊👍
स्यापा मुकाव good joke ! Very much true but honestly saying I took its test drive and found not such a big problem. Reason being its small width! I may be wrong but it was my observation as I was very much apprehensive on this issue.
Rightly said, small footprints is an advantage but it could have been improved from TR perspective as well because Suzuki was not interested in re-design and put more money on this. So the overall objective of the video to know the reasoning behind it and many of us are not really comfortable with the large 5.7m TR. Tight streets, tight hairpin bends, old age drivers, etc.
Earlier I had Suzuki Gypsy with me, it also had large turning radius..... I think its due to rigid axle suspension at front and also its designed to lower the wear n tear of tyre alignment and suspension.... specifically due to use of offroad....
You are widely right however the complete set of front suspension of Jimny is a bit different. What you have said is one of the reasons but technically, Jimny's TR could have been decreased to at least to some extent. May be at Scorpio or Gen-2 Thar level, around 5.4 or 5.5. The issue is Suzuki did not put any efforts while they were busy in stretching in there factories. It's is great to hear your experience of King Gypsy Sir! 👌 Thanks for contributing and commenting! 😊👍
Ji, very funny. I did not find much problem in 2H city driving. You just get used to taking a wider circle in a u -turn. But yes, it is an issue in 4H and 4L, where it is not advised ( in owners manual) to take sharp turns. Thar Roxx uses a intelligent turning system in 4 wheel mode, where the inner wheels get locked and the turning radius is greatly reduced.
I really like the Jimny and was thinking of buying it as an upgrade to my existing Alto LXI. I can handle all the short comings of it but I am really concerned about the turning radius. The freedom Alto gives in exploring narrow alleys to explore and taking U turns when reaching dead ends is much better. Also in high traffic scenarios in narrow streets when taking U Turns where people don't have patience and will try to sneak in from the back, I am not really sure whether I will be comfortable with the Jimny. Could you please tell your experience in such cases?
Well, Thar and Jimny are not very different. There is 5.5m and Jimny is 5.7m. The good thing about Jimny is it is not wide and has small foot prints. Suppose, you are comfortable with Thar then Jimny is a bit easier being narrow. Coming back to your actual question, Alto to Jimny, definitely there will be a challenge in tight streets. You may need to go back and forth to Jimny a couple of times. Slowly, you will be used to it. Best is to take a demo of 20-30 kms and drive in different scenarios. Hope this helps!
@@MashofreaksAuto Thanks for the reply. I don't have experience driving a large vehicle. As you mentioned I was comparing with cars with similar sizes (Force Gurkha, Mahindra Thar, Bolero Neo) and yes, I feel the turning radius is pretty similar. In the similar class I was also looking at Honda Elevate and the slightly smaller Hyundai Venue. These are my current alternatives if Jimny does not work out. The biggest requirement for me is the freedom to go anywhere and in tight spaces. I am into exploration be it Urban or in the Ghats and I was waiting for the Jimny as I found it very capable and built for such things. I also love the small foot print as many of the urban places that I explore are busy narrow old city roads. Even in city roads like Bangalore this would help as there is absent road filled with slush etc. Since my hometown is in South Canara, I have to drive down Western Ghats where the roads are often very steep and have a lot of hair pin bends which I feel the Jimny would not have a problem.
ANYTIME! KEEP ON ASKING YOUR DOUBTS. Well go for Jimny then and let's keep the TR away from the topic and if you do not drive very fast, it will be your best companion. It is designed to handle such road abuses decently and quite a comfortable car if you look at 4x4 segments and all the vehicles you have listed other than Jimny are not sort of go anywhere DNA. Hope this helps you! ☺️ Also, help to spread the content. Thanks.
Basically Suzuki engineers did not change the turn angle of the front wheels. So since the wheelbase increased, the turning radius also increased. The formula for calculating turning radius (RTurn), RTurn = (wheelbase/sin(steering angle)) + 1/2 tire width A word of caution to those going for wider tyres, note that RTurn increases with increase in tire width. Maybe one reason for the engineers to provide puny 165 tyres. The only way steering angle could have been changed is if they had gone in for IFS.
Rightly said which is I put in the simplest form in video so it is easier to understand. Also, to increase the angle the entire from suspension and steering have to be re-designed, re-engineered, and tested which probably could have been further delay Jimmy's launch and had to put lots of additional money onto this. So it is not actually engineers 😊 but their leadership who took this decision when the engineer told them about the efforts. 😉 Thanks for the valuable inputs. 😊👍
One more thing, if they come with IFS at front, current differential is out and new steering setup is needed. Not just that many more things underbody 😉😊
Based on pre bookings maruti thought we would drool all over jimny and blindly buy it.... If they would have predicted sales would go south, then they would have engineered it better with better turning radius, better water wading(come on 300mm of water wading is a joke) seat height adjustment and also given suzuki connect telematics
This is the reason I made this video about the constraints have followed when they would have been done re-engineering to increase Angle and reduce turning radius. But unfortunately they took a cost effective path rather than what is good for the customer. Even till now they were not able to sell the total vehicle they got in pre-bookings. Most of Suzuki loyals are not happy at all. Thanks for commenting and contributing. 😊👍
Hoping so as you said Sir👍 and this is one of the reasons why this "Jimny Cookbook Series" is, we have to grill many more recipes here so everybody can taste them especially Suzuki 😊
Maybe Rear Wheel Steering would have make it even better, turning rear wheel in same direction at higher speed & in opposite direction at slower speed. Also they should have increased the overall length w/o spare wheel by 200 mm, since this doesn't have under 1200cc tax advantage
@@MashofreaksAuto No sir, some cars had four wheel steering, I think Nissan tried HICAS in Skyline R31 to r34. Some Off-road builders tried 4WS in jeep 4x4 for Off-road competition
Ahhh... got you, some of the high end mercedes and similar cars have those. But my friend thats very expensive technology and you probably can't do with this current setup of rigid axle at rear. That actually gives more stability during sharp cornering.
@@MashofreaksAuto It might be expensive but even with rigid axle its possible, I have seen it done with 3 link rigid axle as well as with 5 link off-road cars.
Yeah, with multilink it is more viable but will also become very complex our Arena service guys can't handle what we have. That sort of suspension makes this car expensive multifold because it is not just that but the entire 4x4 system so called AllGrip pro has to be changed or altered. People who need support will start divorcing MSIL which will be the better option instead facing us. 😄 And also, who will buy this car then, in India many people first ask is, isme CNG hai kya? 🤓 BTW, I have been waiting for Bronco for a long time.
TR is more a design constraint. We or Suzuki can't do anything to fix it in this model. We have to lived with this. But this is worth discussing the thinking of Suzuki behind this approach so I made this video.
Yeah, that's an advantage over bigger TR. But not very friendly for riders in old age, turning it into tight streets especially crowded and tight hairpin bends I face them day to day bases. Now it is quite habitual so I do not feel that much. It's almost close to first gen Thar I drove for 12 years.
The audacity of Suzuki to charge Indians up to 17 lacs ++ for a Jimny and not even bother to re-engineer it and market it as a perfect city car. Bollocks!
Will you please elaborate your question because there is no manual diff lock in Jimny. Better you explain your question makes it a better chance to get that answered with some explanation.
@@MashofreaksAuto incase if we could install a rear differential locking system and apply one side while talking turns will it help to reduce turning radius?
First thing first, reduce turning radius means reducing the current 5.7m to something, e.g. 5.4 or 5.3. This is not possible by putting manual diff. If your meaning of reducing TR is for longer turning radius or the effective turning radius are larger in 4H & 4L then again it will not get benefitted from manual diff. Manual diffs are for something else but not for improving TR. Actually, Jimny is part time 4WD and this is a normal behaviour of all part time 4WD to have decreased or longer turning radius during 4x4 system engaged. Which means during that time the effective TR will be way larger than 5.7m. If still you will try sharp turn in 4x4 system which is not at all advisable that means you are very close to damage 4x4 system so be very careful. Hope, this clarify! Feel free to ask if still you have doubts, I will definitely try to help you for.
