Star Wars Empire at War (via steam):
From the lives of soldiers to the deaths of planets, you are the supreme galactic commander. It is a time of galactic civil war. Take up the reins of the Rebellion or assume control for the Empire. Whichever you choose, it will be up to YOU to steer your side to ultimate victory. Command everything from individual troops to starships and even the mighty Death Star as you execute campaigns on the ground, in space and across the galaxy. Forget tedious resource gathering - just jump straight into the heart of the action. You can even change Star Wars history! Every decision affects your next battle and every battle helps shape the fate of the galaxy.
    Mod Links/Descriptions
    Thrawn’s Revenge: steamcommunity...
Description (Steam) - The death of the Emperor has left the galaxy in disarray - command one of 9 playable factions as they strive to establish themselves as the next galactic power, with an array of new units, heroes, planets and scenarios with extra story-driven content, and new mechanics inspired by 4X and Grand Strategy titles. New and updated content is added monthly.
    Fall of the Republic: steamcommunity...
Description (Steam) - Palpatine's machinations and the decay of the Republic have brought the galaxy into the most destructive war it's ever seen. The Separatist droid armies threaten to overrun the Republic and no matter who comes out on top, the course of galactic history will be altered forever...
    Awakening of the Rebellion: steamcommunity...
Description (Steam) - AotR is a complete overhaul mod for Forces of Corruption. Inspired by the old RTS, Star Wars: Rebellion, AotR adds many features from this game and other titles, including a more in-depth mission system, tech system, and many new units! We are proud to present improved tactical combat in space, ground and galactic combat, and have also substantially improved upon the graphics of the base game. Immerse yourself in the Galactic Civil War era as the fledgling Rebellion, the oppressive Empire, or the opportunistic Black Sun pirates. This mod is not for the faint of heart and will test your RTS skills with a completely overhauled AI and set of difficulty levels.

While the base game can still be fun lets be honest the modding scene is where it's at with that the game has near infinite replay-ability especially with people still creating new mod for this game even now.

And shortly after this video, Petroglyph pushed out a massive update that brings the game to 64 bits so that it works more stable with mods! I'm just waiting for all of these mentioned mods to be updated to work well under that new framework to dive into them. Only just recently picked the game up.

it's a great game, with an AMAZING and dedicated mod community. They'll take this update and make some amazing stuff out of it. Also, most of the top end mods (AOTR, Fall of the Republic, Thrawn's, Remake) are pretty stable even before the update.

Phoenix rising is another interesting mod.
Fall of the Republic and Thrawn's Revenge are my favourites personaly. They strike a good balance between adding lots of new, balanced and appropriate new content and mechanics and not being too difficult for a single celled organism such as myself.
Awakening of the rebellion looks very cool and I enjoy watching campaigns of it, but the AI kicks my ass and is too frustrating for me to enjoy myself with.

I find the best way to fight the AI (At least an Imperial AI) is to use a stealth team to hit their undefended worlds or worlds they've recently taken, basically worlds that have little to no garrison. This will cause the AI to focus their attention towards those worlds first, buying you a little time to build up a defense. I recommend building at least a basic rebel camp, and auto-resolving against any dedicated enemy force that attempts to invade. Unlike most EaW mods, this mod seems to change the auto-resolve to be more in the player's favor, and the rebel camp alone might be able to kill a ground unit or two when you'd usually be unable to do so in a normal battle. Any border worlds should gain an ion cannon as well as some space defenses. An ion cannon massively increases the odds of an auto-resolve victory. Killed an Executor because of that in a previous version when I realistically shouldn't have been able to. Even if you decide to fight, ion weapons are massively buffed compared to normal EaW and other mods, as they can even prevent enemy ships from retreating occasionally if their shields are down, as well as lower the firerate and damage of enemy ships. Make sure to sell any ion cannons that aren't on a border world, such as Hoth or Mon Cala, those are just a waste of money. If you can't afford ion cannons or space defenses, dig in on the ground with lots of infantry or the fast moving yet cheap Seraph speeders, truly an underrated unit. Of course if you can afford better vehicles or units, take it, as well as base defenses such as shield generators and turbolaser batteries. Check your base layout to see where the power generator is and move your shield generator over near it. It also may be best to build a second power generator in case the game puts it in an unfavorable spot. Of course, keeping a shutter shield is also valid, enemy bombing runs and bombardments can break any good defense, so keeping a planet wide shield isn't a bad idea.
Often when you repel a ground invasion, the AI will move most of their ships off the planet. Send a fleet to push the rest off, and see if there's another place you can retaliate at. The AI doesn't have infinite money, so if you can destroy their stations, either through stealth invasions or space battles, you can lower Empire's ability to replenish their forces, giving you time to build your fleet. You will not have the resources or time to build a fleet for each border world, it is a waste to build that many units and you'll be too spread out if you try to split the fleet, so just have a single fleet for each sector parked at a planet that can rapidly respond to any crisis.

AOTR definitely has a learning curve, keep at it, you'll get it!

Yeah Awakening of the Rebellion is very heavy on the micromanagement side of things. Which can be pretty overwhelming.

The only Mod i would add to that list would be the Remake mod. But with how many things that mod changes, its a matter of preference. (not a fan of what it changes myself, but they are interesting to be fair) Like the Economy is a Constant Flow and building things slowly drains credits rather then just being a instant deduction. You have to PAY for every single fighter that spawns from your Carrier vessels (if they die, you pay for it) for example and pay for every BOMBING RUN you call in and even every Artillery shot last i heard. More interesting however is that units are not individual units but BATTALIONS (you get ALOT of units for one tactical pop), such as Mechanized Infantry or Tank Destroyer battalions for example.
Other then that you covered every major mod for EAW.
