"the kid's suicidal? he's depressed. give him zoloft." etc, etc. a lot of the time it's like trying to fix your computer with a pipe wrench. the takeaway isn't that drugs are evil or bad but that they're POWERFUL and the medical industry will happily put you in a whack-a-mole situation where you're given a drug that fixes X, but then it creates issues with Y, Z, A, and B. drugs can be incredibly helpful or even necessary for people depending on their situation but they should be treated with respect. educate yourself and advocate for yourself.

We are all too trusting when it comes to Drs and taking RX meds without doing our own research about side effects. 7 drs had me on 21 medications for years and i finally fired all but 2 drs and stopped taking all but 4 of those meds. Ive managed without the others and even feel better. Drs make money on all these meds they give patients. When they try to give me new meds i read all i can about it and then decide for myself if its worth the risks and side effects. Just like this vax theyve tried to push everybody to take without enough studies on them.now people are having serious side effects and many have died as a result of trusting the drug companies. I will depend on my own immune system and stay away from crowded places and away from sick folks.
Great comment, as a chemist it's amazing to see for once a clear and correct explanation of generic pharmacology of compounds. I'd like to add that for the case here explained (add/adhd) there was a way smaller trial and error phase, since it branched from an already known family of compound (phenylethilammines) and the drug cited (methylphenidate) it's a modification of pervitin (ww2 drug) that removes side effects through steric inactivation of part of the molecule. For this specific disorder, despite the perceived risk of the treatment, the pharmacological route is less dangerous than the untreated consequences. Immagine an individual with very low dopamine production that discovers illegal NDRIs compounds like cocaine, crack cocaine, amphetamines or Molly and for once I'm his life feels "calm" and "focused" or the same individual that never had any NDRIs and that get all his "coping" from noradrenaline and to do so engages in progressively more dangerous or violent activities. Don't get me wrong the skit is funny, but if the medic isn't a crook and the child is really dopamine deprived it's better to sit him down for a while instead of getting the bowl out of his hands in 10 years. I had that exact same experience with ritalin as a kid. When I was on ritalin, all I would do was lay on the couch, because I had zero energy. Then they put me on risperdal when I was in high school, which clouded my mind up, so I did poorly in all of my classes. Luckily, I went off of all of that shit right before college, and it was like the world suddenly popped into focus and I could see for miles, after living in a fog for years.

it was this girl in my class when i tell you FILLED with joy all the time .. parents put her on medicine we couldn’t recognize her anymore she was not the same , sleeping in all classes to the point she basically stopped coming to school , haven’t heard from her since. sad to see how it took someone so joyful to them COMPLETELY checking out.

Katt is so damned good... he drops just the right amount of political and social commentary, but never comes across as preachy or anything... he's also epic at physical humor (like the leap to dead stop when he was imitating his son on Ritalin). Some people hate on the language, but that's just petty. It's part of the performance and it isn't designed to be all things to all people. It'd be great to see him and Doug Stanhope tour together... at least that makes sense in my imagination. w00t
