Initially developed in the 2000s in the Southern United States, mainly in Houston and Memphis, the genre's early pioneers include DJ Screw, X-Raided, DJ Spanish Fly, DJ Squeeky, and the collective Three 6 Mafia.
This style actually came out in early 90s in Memphis. By the 2000s it had already been around for a long time. Chopped and screwed sound is way different. And screw does not stick to one genre. You can listened to tons of chopped and screwed r&b.

@@VergenceI’m want to correct you North Memphis was not the first phonk song the first was actually a song you and me have obviously heard which is scary gary by Kaito Shoma which came out 3 years before North Memphis I just wanted to correct you that’s all thanks for the vid btw.
btw for the scale i recommend using phrygian as it has the flat 2 which is very dark (here you just called it chromatic movement) Great video though, maybe you could make a tutorial on astral/chill phonk?
Yo this is an insanely well made video, and the use of memes was 👌. However, I do want to make a clarification. When writing melodies, chromatic scales don't always work the best. Phonk typically makes use of Phrygian scales (rip people who don't know music theory), which adds to the spicy effect given off!
played violin for like 8 years and still barely know music theory. side note, how on hods green earth did i go from classical sonata in B minor to phonk blasting in my ears and now trynna make it...
I'm literally a sucker for Phrygian melodies so good to know 👍🏻 tbh, I know a little more theory than I'd imagine most producers do, but I tend to go with my gut when writing and what I hear in my head... Just turns out that most of the time, I've accidentally written in a Phrygian scale lol

it probably helps if you have a drum loop idea in mind.. or even beat boxing one just to get a feel of how it Should sound, rather then just guessing where to place your kicks and rolls lol..
does anyone else have a problem with the lamar snare? when the note plays it just keeps playing over and over then as it loops back the notes all start stacking. Dont seem to have this problem with the other sounds in the pack so far.

Dude, very cool tutorial, and the beginning is totally embarassed. the russians took a lot of things for themselves, but very soon everything will return to normal, Crimea and Donbass will return to Ukraine, and the phonk will be the same as it was before, or the phonk performers will make a new phonk that will be much better than the rashist one.
