As a rapper who's put 6 years into this I've experienced how this video ended many times. Am currently making the best music I've ever made and set to release soon. But as a plan not to fall on my face, I've dedicated 2 hours every morning to editing reaction videos (finding cult audience) and mixing down my music. In a bid to really smash it this time. It’s like having Kobe on your team lol, Kyle Beats has connects to like everything you need to be a successful artist. High quality beats, great marketing, a built up fan base that he created from the ground up over years of hard work, etc. so having all that under your belt itd be pretty easy to break an “anonymous artist” because the person in the background (Kyle Beats) already has prior success in this area. The point is that even if you have knowledge in the industry, rapping talent, good beats, and a great music video you still might not make it. These guys are literally pros and still failed on a song that is better than 99.9% of the songs upcoming rappers will be releasing and still didn't make it. That shows that even if you do everything right, luck is the final factor you have to have. You just have to have the skill to capitalize on it if it comes your way. At the end of the day, people are way more likely to listen to their playlist than actively look for new music. The problem isn't with making the music, but actually getting it in front of people so that they can respond to it. The internet made it way easier to do this, and technically possible without *any* outside assistance, but that is incredibly unlikely, and slower.
In the past, the only way to make it was to do shows, and it wasn't impossible to get those booked. Now, all you need to do is get on a stream or UA-cam video (stream likely has a way better turnover rate though).
If you're dirt poor, you don't really have the time or money to give you a decent chance. You can make all the songs you want, but no one's combing through 0 view UA-cam videos for hidden gems. Doing something alone is always harder than doing it with help, and in this case you're basically competing with every other artist.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that the game is super competitive even when all the artists are just thinking about themselves getting big. But if every artist is thinking about getting big and there’s so many artists, that’s what makes it competitive. Who’s got the catchiest hook, who’s got the cleanest mix, who’s got what it takes to make an audience turn into a fan base. It’s a huge mental toll until you find you in music. So just embrace the fact it’s a competition but also know it’s not really about it being a competition. That’s why I said it’s lowkey a comp. Do you, have fun, keep learning, and have fun. The rest will come naturally during your journey.
