Hai Krisna. Perhatian bawha sebanyak "sampah" itu ada kayu, bambu, kelapa sama kerang. Which floats! That's why it washes into the oceans during the monsoon, down the Lombok Strait and around the bukit into the Kuta/Seminyak/Canggu beaches.
REALITY: The Lombok Strait is one of the fastest moving and deepest waterways in the world. Ocean flotsam from not only Indonesia, but a lot of Asia, ends up flowing through it and some of it ends up wrapping around into the Kuta beaches and to the north - especially during musim hujan (rainy or monsoon season). Most of it is what's called "greenwaste", and of that it's mainly wood, bamboo, coconuts and tree droppings (a lot shells and lava rock from the sea too). So during the very strong rains and winds of the monsoon season all this stuff eventually gets washed into the ocean and off it goes and ends up on Bali's west coast beaches (due to the musim hujan ocean and wind flow). Most of it, after being picked up now by the Indonesian authorities (they now have large graders parked at the beach at Legian), ends up being burned. It's nothing new, happens every single musim hujan and it is dealt with. It's only the panicking newbie tourists who pretend they are shocked and concerned (the very same people who think nothing of getting their plastic Starbucks cups and canned or bottled drinks from the local convenience store - after they cruise around the island burning fuel using their cars, motorbikes, buses and tourist boats ... don't even mention their aircraft!)
MEANWHILE: Over at Nusa Dua and Sanur DLL the beaches are pristine, the wind is offshore and the surf is great. On the beaches the seafood and beers are excellent. The tourists are on the wrong Bali coast during the monsoon! No, that couldn't be could it?

Am staying at the Legian Beach Hotel. Arrived Saturday (yesterday) and the plastic and rubbish is so bad along the beach. Real pitty.
